Ocean was rough as hell and we had a small craft advisory, but decided to go out anyways and see how far we could get. Wound up going only 3 miles out...it was cold and rough and the wind was howling.Caught one houndfish (first ever....weird looking fish) and 1 small king.Oh well, at least the motors ran well, nothing bad happened.

Went out of OI on Wednesday. Caught 2 YFTs, a mahi and a wahoo. Not bad for a short trip w/ only the Capt and I.
10/24/2009 6:44:36 PM
Fished out of Hatteras Sunday. 3 YFT, a fat albert, had a sailfish throw the hook, and my first Blue Marlin! We estimated between 350-400 lbs. Took over 2.5 hours to get him to the boat on a Tiagra 30w. Light tackle! Fished a good break at the 400

Anyone familiar with servicing these Penns? I have a 940 that is messing up. The line guide that moves back and forth will stop moving at the far left position sometimes. If you push it you can feel it click back into place and it will start moving back to the right as you reel. I figured I'd ask for advice here before I just start taking stuff apart.
11/23/2009 5:11:36 PM
take it to Brownie at Coastline Service Center in Goldsboro
11/23/2009 5:13:02 PM
Probably not heading to Goldsboro anytime soon. It was basically a free rod/reel combo that came with some other gear I bought at a yard sale, so I don't have a lot to lose if I do start taking it apart. I actually got this reel on an Ugly Stick rod and a 4/0 Penn Senator on a saltwater rod for $60 iirc. [Edited on November 23, 2009 at 11:18 PM. Reason : l]

Hey there, I'm looking for advice on deep sea fishing on our honeymoon. My fiance' was born and raised in Kansas and this will only be his second time seeing the Atlantic, so although avid freshwater fishermen, we have no clue when it comes to deep sea fishing. We're actually looking at honeymooning on the Georgia coast (looking at Tybee island-near Savannah) so if anyone has experience from down there, that would be really great. Also, is the deep sea fishing superior in NC? If so we may split our time between NC and GA coast. The wedding is in High Point, but we'd be willing to drive for a quality fishing experience. I know it depends on what we're looking for, but again....we're not experienced with salt water species. I would like to catch shark (weird fascination, too much shark week I guess), other than that...we want something fun to catch that eats pretty good too. Any advice as to how to determine a good deep sea charter from the sketchy ones would be great also; though I also know that it will largely depend on the weather and how the fish are biting that day. I've heard trips are usually a really expensive boat ride or the time of your life, we're willing to take that risk, we just want to increase our odds by having a good captain that knows where the fish usually are. Thank you for any help!

new thread for the new year: message_topic.aspx?topic=584971^so do you wanna go all out and have the boat to yourselves ($$$) or do you wanna go on what's called a head boat where it's a really big boat and lots of folks go at one time (much much less $$$)?[Edited on January 19, 2010 at 6:52 PM.
