Is there somebody you can call to get a tentative idea of when you might possibly expect them to begin offering uverse in your area? Garner (me) is on their list of roll-out locations for the state, but I just signed a 2 year contract with TWC to get a lower, locked-in rate. With the contract, I can cancel any time within 60 days for free, and after that it will start with costing $150 and step down over the remainder of my two years for the early termination. With the money it will save though, I'll make up for the cancellation fee if uverse doesn't get here for > 6 months.

^I'm sure they can get you a solid rate without a contract. locking yourself in for 2 years is a bad idea.

For reals, what makes U-Verse better than TWC? Is there a comparison chart anywhere that I can look at?

^^did you even read this?:

i don't generally do this in tech talk, but whatever:there's a fucking 8 page thread here. there's plenty of info. just look for your damn self instead repeating yourself.

4/6/2009 3:42:15 PM
because a contract also guarantees that the rate won't increase. also lots of people don't want to argue on the phone forever for what likely won't amount to any gain.
4/6/2009 3:45:17 PM
a 3/6/12 month promotional rate also means it won't go up for 3/6/12 months. Or has everyone forgotten about this already?
4/6/2009 3:46:26 PM
24>12>6>3. and some of us don't have roommates to pass off the new rate every 12 months.
4/6/2009 3:49:12 PM
I tried for like 30 minutes and 2 people to get the no-strings-attached promotional rate but they wouldn't give it to me this time They didn't mention anything about the bandwidth caps, so I'm betting it'd be one of those deals where I can get out free if they change the service in any appreciable way.

4/6/2009 4:02:46 PM
some claim to. but a lot of people swap off with roommates so that they can get the new subscriber rate. but they're really pushing the two-year contract thing (they obviously see the competition that's coming to the area)

Awww, how is this not in North Raleigh yet? I hate TWC

ok all you techies, i need your help.ever since we got AT&T in our house, the internet connection on my laptop is....weird. more often than not, i get a "page cannot be displayed" message the first time i click a link. it processes for 20secs or so, then gives me the error. so i hit the BACK button, click again and it works. until a few clicks later, then it does it again. it's been happening since we got AT&T so i'm fairly certain it's got something to do with their internet. how do i go about troubleshooting this? when i scroll my mouse over the internet connection thing in the toolbar, i have 5 bars (full strength) so it's not an issue of wireless signal. my virus scan hasn't picked up anything either.for comparison purposes, hubby has a laptop too and doesn't have these issues...i'm the lucky one.halp tww

Does anyone know of a calendar that predicts when U-Verse will be available in raleigh neighborhoods?
4/6/2009 8:03:50 PM
got a question and I need the answer in terms I can understand. what all is required for uverse?I called and asked them this and was told that the existing cable would be all I need.but then an install tech came on Sunday and said that we have to use the existing phone line - which is on the other side of the apartment...So which is it? Both? Why the phone line? I'm guessing the phone line is just some type of at&t signal and they'll use the existing cable for internet/tv?
4/6/2009 11:03:06 PM
The install guy that did my house set it up with the incoming coax. You should ask him why he had to do it over the phone line. I'm guessing he left you his business card with his mobile number on it?

the roll out seems really slow and in small areas at a time. Someone who lives about a mile and a half from me doesn't have u-verse yet and homes about 2 miles in the opposite direction also don't have it.
4/7/2009 12:37:04 AM
fucking sweet. got uverse today. woot!

Has anyone with U-Verse gotten any advanced features running? For example, TVersity which is supposed to allow you to watch media content from your PC on the U-Verse set-top box (I suspect not).Another feature I am looking for is to be able to view the U-Verse DVR remotely on either a PC or mobile phone without a slingbox.http://i.gizmodo.com/5022574/the-future-of-tv-according-to-atthttp://tversity.com/

oh man. uverse is a different world. I'm loving it. FINALLY NO TWC!
4/8/2009 12:58:31 AM
at&t trucks off kaplan todaythey've been digging up shit all around here lately
4/8/2009 1:06:51 AM
well they ended up tapping into the phone line in the closet. I thought they used coax though?
4/8/2009 7:30:37 AM
that would suck ass if someone was all like, "HELL YEA! SCREW TWC! UVERSE ROCKS!" and then found out it was just dsl[Edited on April 8, 2009 at 8:17 AM. Reason : s]

He isn't a TWC fanboy, he's been the same baseless troll his entire career on this web site. In fact, I don't know that I've ever seen the guy make a "normal - hey guys, whats going on" type of post on this web site...ever?You weren't around a long time ago when he carried on a thread for many many pages where he was bashing overclockers as being the equivalent to a script kiddie...which, in a way they kinda were, but you in retrospect, without those guys would most bios and chipset makers be including great tools in their designs to allow us to tweak the settings of our machines? Its obvious and near common knowledge around here that TWC sucks and he knows that, so he just takes the opposite position from everyone to troll them and get them riled up.All you need to know about him is he basically cried and his voice hit pitches that are barely detectable to the human ear when an ECE305 professor we had once made him his bitch over a test once. I witnessed this with my own eyes.[Edited on April 8, 2009 at 8:46 AM. Reason : .]

i saw an at&t service dude messing with the box at the edge of my yard and asked him if they were in the neighborhood to roll out u-verse. he said yes and that it would probably be up in a couple of months. they've been digging around the area for a couple weeks now. i'm in 27615 in case anyone is curious.
4/9/2009 3:52:23 PM
Please hurry to 27612

EPIC BLOCKING OF PORT 25
4/9/2009 9:25:16 PM
I can't get U-verse and after looking at the package prices, I'm not sure that's a bad thing.
4/10/2009 11:19:15 AM
we pay less for u-verse than we did for time warner for better (and faster) service.
4/10/2009 11:40:09 AM
Neighbors are getting Uverse, saw the AT&T guy poking around outside their house and he said they signed up. Might have to swing by once it's installed and see what the difference is between Dish and UVerse TV, to see if it's worth the switch.I was mainly disappointed at their pricing. It's about $20 more than what I pay now for similar basic content and internet (obviously upstream is better than TWC) but that's not including HBO. With Dish I get the HD package with HBO for $53 / month and TWC costs me $40 for their 10Mb service. It would be over $110 for U200 + HD channels + 6Mb internet. Throw in HBO and it's $15 more. However you supposedly get free access to all AT&T hotspots nationwide if you have UVerse internet. That would be really cool to have but still not sure it's worth the extra $$.

^Same here. We have more movie channels, a helluva lot more HD channels, two boxes in the house (as compared to one with TWC), and we can record 4 channels at a time - all for $20/mo cheaper than TWC. Best. Move. Ever.
4/17/2009 9:30:04 AM
I get digital cable + standard internet from TWC for $108. For the cheapest not worse service from U-Verse is $112 + tax.
