movie is actually getting good reviews.I say actually, because the entire world and its brother bob has decided to hate on this film because it stars a female cast.
7/10/2016 1:51:11 PM
^ naw it's mostly just dudes on the internet
7/10/2016 1:58:11 PM
There is no way in hell this film would get poor reviews. Dudes on the internet took care of that.

Over/under on the rotten tomatoes critic score in a month? 65ish? Currently sitting at 74. Metacritic at 62.Reviews are mixed but overall positive so far. Lot of praise for the cast and a lot of dumping on heavy cgi and weak plot. Nobody seems to feel like it's great or close to the original, but nobody seems to think it's an unholy abomination either.[Edited on July 10, 2016 at 5:15 PM. I will give them credit for the twitter link. That is some "Grade A" trolling. Stage a photo shoot with some planted kids, and that is a no-win scenario for anyone trying to point it out.
7/11/2016 11:02:55 AM
I'm not sure taking photos at a press event can really be criticized for being staged.

Saw it last night. Really wasn't all that bad, but it's clearly below the original (and the sequel). Loved some of the cameos, and some others were meh. Definitely parallels the original is some ways. The motivations for the main villain weren't well established, just seemed like "hey, here's this weird dude and he's planning something bad". Of the main characters, I thought McKinnon, Hemsworth, and Jones brought the funny, but I think there could have been more. Overall I feel like it didn't deserve all the hate it got prior to release.

I liked Ghostbusters 2! Not as good obviously but still enjoyable.Unless Ghostbusters 3 gets overwhelmingly positive reviews I'm prob gonna wait until its out on DVD.

It's cast with all the same comedic style characters or very annoying style characters
7/18/2016 3:28:20 AM
I actually enjoyed it. It wasn't great, but it was solidly entertaining. Really liked the Holtzman character, McKinnon stole every scene she was in.Cameos were great, even caught the Harold Ramis 'cameo' early on there. Am not really clear if this is in the same 'world' as the first couple BG movies. There was an allusion to knowledge of these kinds of events being actively covered up, but they danced around any mention of events from the earlier movies.Cant help it, was excited by the last bit after the credits.Hemsworth was surprisingly funny, he seemed to be enjoying the hell out of himself.
7/18/2016 9:46:18 AM
I liked it, but I had a lot of problems with it.-- SPOILER ALERT ---- SPOILER ALERT ---- SPOILER ALERT --Erin & Abby didn't really have defined characters, which would be fine if the jokes were mile-a-minute or if there had been a lot of plot to get through, but the first two acts meandered far too much for so little development. The scenes were entertaining, and McKinnon was her usual genius self, but a lot of it seemed to be built around ad-libs (the DeBarge scene) as opposed to things with story momentum. I understand that the original did a lot of this as well, but in a movie that has some severe holes (why is Rowan doing this?) I would've liked more content and less fluff. With that said, McKinnon makes everything work on the surface.I didn't like how the comic tone seemed to shift on a dime. It's fine to be broad, and it's fine to have non-sequitur bits, but it often felt like they were thrown in randomly when there had been too much time between organic laugh lines. On a similar note, the editing was kind of odd; lots of two-shots of Erin & Abby that cut to Holtzmann for a random coverage shot just to give McKinnon more screen time.I was disappointed that Rowan posing the cops for a dance sequence didn't pay off, but upon seeing how awesome it looked in the credits, how the hell was that not in the movie? Everyone wants to see Michael K. Williams dance.I liked the third act a lot, as the action sequences were fun, and I didn't find the CGI offensive. I was a little confused by the selective use of ghost powers and the idea that ghosts could be killed and just be ghost corpses (they're already dead?), but I can chalk that up to typical action movie business and be okay with it. I'm still wondering why Times Square went back in time? I know Rowan said "enjoy the glory days of New York" or whatever because the ghosts were old, but how/why did he transform Times Square into 1972?Also, I liked all of the cameos (especially Annie Potts & Sigourney Weaver) outside of the DREADFUL Ozzy one. Jesus.
7/19/2016 1:58:13 AM
I think one reason there were plot holes/undeveloped stories is that the Feig's first cut was reportedly a little over 4 hours long, and the theatrical cut ended up being a little under 2 hrs. Doesn't seem like it was edited fairly well if you leave out stuff like the dance sequence, motivation for Rowan, etc.I thought the cameos were largely ok as well & agree that Potts/Weaver were the best ones, but I wasn't a big fan of the Murray cameo. I feel like his role should have been the mayor instead of Andy Garcia, if only because of the Jaws reference.
7/19/2016 10:22:57 AM
^ Murray did not want to do any more Ghostbusters, and Sony had to essentially sue him to appear (obscure clause in a previous Sony contract that Sony twisted just enough). Murray only wanted to appear if his character got killed off (a plot point he pushed if a true canonical Ghostbusters 3 ever occurred).^^ This 2016 Ghostbusters movies was built entirely around focus groups using 'hot' demographics. That is why the movie is all over the place and has a lot of consistency problems. The fated dance scene tested cataclysmically in their focus groups and was scrapped.

Well. I tried.I removed my misconceptions and assumptions. I tried to watch it ignoring the other two GBs.I made it about 27 minutes into this movie before I had to stop watching it. It is absolutely awful. Atrocious. The dialogue sucks. The script is terrible. The scenes cut way too quickly from one to the next leaving absolutely no natural progression. The jokes are pretty shitty and in some cases, I know of at least one, were entirely ripped from other movies, including Bridesmaids. It was actually worse than I thought it would be before I forced myself to view ignoring the other two.Keeping in mind I only made it 27 minutes in, cast-wise, the only person I really had a problem with was Leslie Jones, but I actually think she may have been forced to be as shitty as she was based on how she was instructed by the director as well as the type of character written for her.The cameos (I went ahead and watched them all on YouTube) were reprehensible.Just awful. Awful movie.
8/9/2016 8:17:32 PM
I did feel like the cameos from the first movies took away from this movie. For this movie to stand on its own, they should have never included the original cast members. Either that, or there should have been some kind of handing of the torch from the old crew to the new crew.
