Kiting is part of the game, but not an essential part. I haven't encountered a fight that could only be won through kiting.
11/9/2009 3:49:30 PM
no, its not realistic outside of wacky TV show montages... but thanks for the condescending thanks, the facepalm, the "you just dont understand", noob, etc., you are truly the master of the internet message board lingo and argumental methods.^ obviously its not as I have never used it in this game or any other game and have done just fine... its part of the game if you let it be part of the game[Edited on November 9, 2009 at 3:54 PM. I think kiting is very realistic. If I was stuck in a room with a giant monster that was bearing down on me and none of my allies could stop him and I have to avoid dying, fuck yes I'm running away until he changes direction.
11/9/2009 3:56:24 PM
Sigh... the whole conversation hasnt been about that, its been about the fact that in the game, this thing would continue to just chase someone around (even if that someone changes) while getting constantly pelted with range attacks... that's the unrealistic part.
11/9/2009 3:57:40 PM
Assuming that the only attack the enemy has is a melee attack. Many monsters will switch to ranged if you run from them, negating kiting entirely. If you hide behind a wall, they will come to get you, assuming you still have aggro at that point. Keep in mind, without these dynamic game mechanics, you would have no chance of beating monsters with extremely high constitution and high damage output. They would steamroll you every single time, making the battle unbeatable.[Edited on November 9, 2009 at 4:04 PM. Reason : -]

I disagree, as I said, I have never used kiting and have done fine using the actual elements of the game... that force field spell is the shit btw, use the fuck out of that to isolate badasses in battles
11/9/2009 4:04:01 PM
I suppose you can always level your character to surpass your opponent's character limitations, but that is cheap in it's own right. You can view this from many perspectives, all you have done is exchanged one cheap tactic for another, if I'm understanding you correctly. If you are level 5 when you enter a battle, get totally owned, and come back at level 10 and destroy the enemy, isn't that really fucking boring and cheap as well?[Edited on November 9, 2009 at 4:06 PM. ^ what?^^ no, first off, I think DAO uses some sort of scaling factor anyways, and I didnt mean come back when you are way above them, but when you exhaust all current methods (outside of running around like an idiot) and still cant beat them you move on or rethink your strategy. For example, the battle with the caravan that was jumped, I couldnt beat that because their caster had area affect spells that would kill me before I even got to them... but then it occurred to me that I could use the force field spell (which was probably designed to be more of a defensive spell) to block him from doing anything until my fighters got up to him, but then his guards would attack so I ended up charging him, drawing his guards out, then immediately casting the force field spell on him, and sending Allistair up to him to knock the shit out of him with the shield to disrupt his spells while the rest of us concentrated on the guards.[Edited on November 9, 2009 at 4:16 PM. exactly what i thought. Now run along and go play your 'old school' RPG's that came out when I was 5
11/9/2009 4:08:18 PM
ohhh shit "exactly what I thought!"you got me! you make a post that isnt clear and someone asks "what" and you win, you are the shit! Did you take a class on "arguing on the internet" or something? you are pulling out all the old standbys... whats next? personal attacks that have nothing to do with the argument?

ANYWAYENOUGH OF THIS DISCUSSION, BACK ON TOPIC.
11/9/2009 4:24:01 PM
sounds good to me
11/9/2009 4:24:34 PM
Something that is overlooked, but is really awesome about DAO:
11/9/2009 4:39:59 PM
they mentioned that in like every preview videoI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
11/9/2009 4:40:34 PM
I wish my dude would talk, he just sits there like a monglod while everyone else is chatting up and I wish they had some profanity..."Your momma sucks dwarf cock" from The Witcher is one of the best videogame lines of all time
11/9/2009 4:41:29 PM
I, too, wish that you could alter the vulgarity. It would be epic if there was a setting in the game to make the characters use more profanity.

11/9/2009 6:19:54 PM
I just fucked the desire demon that had possessed that kid, haha.
11/9/2009 6:33:21 PM
oh wow that was an option?note to self: bang desire demon on next game
11/9/2009 6:39:13 PM
Yeah, she was begging for it.
11/9/2009 6:55:06 PM
maybe she didn't want me because my elf is a chick?
11/9/2009 6:55:42 PM
Its on the last part of the quest, you can choose to kill her or fuck her.
11/9/2009 6:58:43 PM
Is Warden's Keep worth the money for those of us who didn't buy the CE?I've heard it only takes about an hour...
11/9/2009 9:30:47 PM
Its got a place to store your gear, but thats about it.
11/9/2009 9:37:36 PM
i keep fucking dying in this gameim not good at micromanaging shit and i dont have a healer
11/9/2009 10:34:05 PM
^ You need a healerGo to the mage tower.
11/9/2009 10:59:36 PM
Gah. Was hoping to snap up the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest and go to bed, but the Haven portion is huge - at least as long as Circle Tower.5^ I tried to cooperate with the demon, but neither Morrigan nor Jowan would do so. Every option led to attack. Is your main a male mage?
11/10/2009 10:01:27 AM
the urn is the longest quest i've encountered, i'm almost done with the dwarven quest and i've done redcliff and the elf one too.I figure when i'm done with this i face the blight? idk but i'm pretty sure i haven't played 50 hours. They were saying its 50-60 if you don't do side quests and i've been doing a ton of side quests.I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
11/10/2009 10:12:22 AM
Christ, I hope this doesn't take 60 hoursI've played like 6 so far and would hate to know I'm barely 10 percent through
11/10/2009 10:20:55 AM
I want it to be as epic and long as possible. I feel like I'm nearing the end but only at level 15 or so, that just can't be true.
11/10/2009 10:31:08 AM
I think I've heard level 20 is about where most people end.If you do everything you'll reach level 22.
11/10/2009 11:03:06 AM
i'm lvl 15 but so far leveling has been totally linear, maybe i just did it in a way that the quest lengths happen to coincide with leveling curve.I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
11/10/2009 11:06:08 AM
Wow. Yeah, you guys both fail for totally fucking up the thread for this awesome game.I'm loving the game so far....6-7 hours in...after the first tower. I'm most amazed by the story and characters....I actually care about this shit rather than just plowing through to get to the end.
11/10/2009 11:53:59 AM
Step 1. Get a mage in your groupStep 2. Get HasteStep 3. ProfitIn all seriousness, just like Bioware's D&D games, it makes most fights trivial.
11/10/2009 11:55:41 AM
^^ ? thats a bit unfounded.I've listened to every dialogue and have done every quest where the npc or task seemed interesting / one of my party members wanted to etc. I guess i juts don't have a life. I'll post how much i've played in a few mins.I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
11/10/2009 12:19:56 PM
anybody done the deep road yet? I'm pretty far in to the level and there's some hurlock forge master or something that doesnt seem to take any damage at all.
11/10/2009 1:12:44 PM
I just caught up on the thread and I felt the need to comment on a couple of things:1) Kiting is an acceptable tactic in rpg's and anyone arguing otherwise takes video games a tad too seriously.2) You can outlevel content, the scaling factor isn't linear with your level and while the game will make sure you don't vastly out gear/overpower anything, you certainly can make things easier.I also think I read somewhere that certain fights don't scale at all, like Flemeth.
11/10/2009 3:43:17 PM
I've got to battle Flemeth when I get home. The first few tries didn't go so well.......Anyone have any advice as far as tactics/party members goes?
11/10/2009 3:44:16 PM
^, ^^ Spoiler Alert for those of you who give a shitPut all your DPS on ranged, stock up on fire resist armor & consumables. Be at least level 10. Save right before you talk to her so you can re-attempt quickly.[Edited on November 10, 2009 at 3:48 PM. Reason : .]
11/10/2009 3:45:40 PM
Here's another one: you battle an Arch Demon at the end of the game.I mean really, spoiler alert in an 8 page game thread? Get the fuck out.
11/10/2009 3:48:11 PM
man... you get used to kicking ass as the Golem, its hard to go back to regular fighting afterwards
11/10/2009 4:11:22 PM
Yeah, Golem is almost unfair and makes Shale look like a punk.
11/10/2009 4:20:54 PM
I thought Shale was the Golemdid you mean Stan
11/10/2009 4:27:53 PM
i took that to mean the golem in the circle questI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
11/10/2009 4:30:35 PM
I think he's talking about the fights in the Fade where you ARE a golem..and indestructable.
11/10/2009 4:31:03 PM
oh I haven't got there yet
11/10/2009 4:32:26 PM
leliana or Zevran as a mage? which do you guys think is better?
11/10/2009 4:49:32 PM
