sry, position of male-in-house-with-wolfy has already been filled

i dont think he'd like it if other dudes started showing up

besides, if his house on the coast gets blown away hes going to be staying here awhile

The slides showing the 22 foot storm surge are a little frightening.

my home is about 5 miles from the Galveston Bay, near the city of Kemah (they keep talking about it in the news) I evacuated earlier today. I hope when i go back tomorrow, it is not full of water

Oh, man.

That sucks.

If your place is demolished, will your homeowners insurance agency be paying up, or the flood insurance company?

I rent(house) and i have 90K in renters insurance

And I boarded up all the windows, so the only thing I'm worried about is the Storm Surge

If i can get pictures tomorrow I'll post them.

The first fatality from Ike, is some guy in galveston was trying to cut down a dead tree in his yard earlier today, before Ike started to hit. The tree fell on his 10 year old son. WTF?

exactly how is that a Ike fatality? Guy was being stupid cutting down a tree (I don't care if it was a preventive measure for a storm).

Stupid's stupid.

looks like the 1st floor of the hospital in galveston is completely flooded. They evacuated it a yesterday/today.

Also, as an update, I'm staying at my friends house. He is out of town in Montana. I just went into the yard to see how things are going, and a big chunk of his fence got taken out. Power is still on here.

For what it's worth , for all the damage Houston/Galveston is going to take, everyone needs to count their lucky stars this didn't hit 30-50 miles further south along the coast.

Didn't a lot of the Katrina victims resettle in Houston? Seems like someone's got it out for them.

There was just a guy on CNN who's home was completely destroyed. He named his girlfriend, told her that her apartment was fine, and that they're moving in together

I laughed pretty hard

90% of Houston is w/o power. I don't think we'll be hearing from Wolfy for possibly a week.

made it through the storm! about 15 trees down in the neighborhood, shit is wrecked but overall my neighborhood (which is all i have seen) came out pretty good

power was restored overnight. woke up in the middle of the night with lights and shit on all over the house. gotta love living on the same grid as the hospital.

the batteries i had for my radio ended up not working so we had no access to info during the storm. i have a gas stove and gas water heater so warm showers and hot food were available.

met tons of my neighbors too which is cool.

popped champaign when the storm started hitting, went through that, some bottles of wine and a thing of malibu

thankful i still have a job and that my house and everyone here is ok

That was, by far, the best thing about Fran. The free firewood that my parents STILL haven't used (after at least two winters of heating only by wood) is a very close second

We'd never really gotten to know our neighbors, but between helping each other in yards, and then the MASSIVE cookout my mother organized (for all the food in everyone's freezers), we have some pretty solid relationships, and that's so cool.

im about an hour and a half from galveston by highway

im probably 30mi or so from straight shoreline

15min from i-10

everything is closed, im starting to feel like a prisoner. im running out of the good food i actually want to eat and will have to start eating the shit ive had in the pantry for 2 years...

doesnt help that im now supporting 4 people in my house

i took in a couple i know from work who have no power and no water pressure. they let me stay at their house for a week when i was moving here and they're cool so its no big deal. i have a spare bedroom and bathroom for them and an extra tv in their room so its not crowded or anything

the 4 dogs in the garage are another story! crazyness. had to take one to the emergency vet tonigh. sad stories in there. lots of dog fights and stuff but our was not a fight
