yes, but what does "unbiased" mean? Does that mean you've never heard of the case at all? Does that mean you read about it in the newspaper without any pictures? Or read headlines on CNN? Or watched WRAL religiously just to get as many facts as possible?Because the way "unbiased" is portrayed makes it sound like you have to have zero connection to the coverage of the crime (can't watch the news), zero reason to be influenced about the races involved (the victim is white! no whites allowed - they might be biased for her! .... or wait, no blacks allowed either - they might be biased against her! likewise for the suspect), zero connections to anything the victim or suspect have done (UNC grads can't do it, they are biased for her! Residents of Durham can't do it, they might be biased toward him! No blondes, they are biased for her! Nobody with corn-rows, they have sympathy for him!) etc.

as far as next tuesday is concerned, how about we use our education to realize how miniscule the chapel hill/state rivalry is in comparison to this tragedy. You would think this would be obvious!
3/12/2008 5:29:02 PM
I have not seen anyone saying holding a vigil and showing support is a bad idea. Wearing blue is the stupid part. What will wearing blue prove?
3/12/2008 5:39:35 PM
yeah and just go on about our businessunless we want to wear a ribbon everytime someone dies anywhere^ the last time state students were shot, UNC-CH folks were making us the brunt of their jokes[Edited on March 12, 2008 at 5:40 PM. Reason : 2]
3/12/2008 5:39:56 PM
hmm...might have to buy ribbon stock.
3/12/2008 5:44:00 PM
Some Durham cop said that she was shot in the head twice and then once in the body with a shotgun.Just sad.
3/12/2008 6:24:59 PM
Where did you see that?
3/12/2008 6:28:12 PM
Was told
3/12/2008 6:29:47 PM
3/12/2008 6:32:42 PM
No I thought it was 2 Wake Tech students (brothers) shooting 1 student and 1 other guy.
3/12/2008 6:48:03 PM
nope
3/12/2008 6:52:22 PM
props to colter for making up sad, pathetic, stereotypical hearsay in attempt to turn this into an anti-unc thread[Edited on March 12, 2008 at 8:05 PM. Reason : .]
3/12/2008 8:03:55 PM
3/12/2008 8:40:35 PM
are you suggesting they are asking people to wear blue as a way of "taking on a gang ritual"?
3/12/2008 8:45:18 PM
With all do respect, that power point is very generic info. I guess for the general public its informative, but not to anyone that studies gangs
3/12/2008 8:45:48 PM
^It's helpful for those who want general info...and it's been pretty helpful to me as a teacher to keep gang symbols out of my classroom (on nametags and the like). But you're right - it isn't too helpful to the police. ^^No.
3/12/2008 9:02:09 PM
I don't think that asking people to wear blue is a very good idea. People saying that this is bigger than the rivalry as a way of guilting others into wearing carolina blue are likely feeding those feelings more than they are diffusing them. Of course this is bigger than the rivalry, it shouldn't even be in the same sentence! So why, would you intentionally insert an element (asking State students to wear blue) that you know is going to invoke those feelings in some people at a time and place they have no business being?
3/12/2008 9:21:57 PM
I will wear carolina blue the same as I wore maroon and orange.Which is too say I won't, That doesn't mean I don't feel for Eve's family and friends but i don't feel I need to show solidarity to a school I hate.
3/12/2008 9:25:24 PM
was that carolina blue thing yesterday or NEXT tuesdaybecause if it hasn't happened yetI'm wearing red
3/12/2008 10:03:46 PM
I hope they torture the guy who did this for about 20 years...eternity won't be any longer for him if he dies now or then
3/12/2008 10:26:28 PM
what the fuck is wrong with youwhat makes this murder more special than any other murder
3/12/2008 10:36:44 PM
we've covered this: she was hotbut yeah, the litany of "burn these fuckers" and "i'll beat them to death myself" is getting a bit old. Unless you had a specific connection to Eve, it's curious why this murder should be held in higher regard than the dozens of others in the area over the years
3/12/2008 10:40:48 PM
because it hits close to home (literally and figuratively) for many people, that's why.
3/12/2008 11:26:34 PM
She seemed to be a really good person, and on top of that, she was beautiful and the SBP for UNC. While a murder is a murder is a murder, to end a life that had such promise is a huge slap in the face. It shouldn't be more important than any other murder, and it really isn't. It's just a product of shock and outrage.
3/12/2008 11:53:34 PM
from the little details we know and probably will never know, the shots to the head for what seems little to no reason make the murder seem more devious than a simple drive by or random shooting...hot or not, a shots to the head seems much worse than the usual torso shot
3/13/2008 1:56:39 AM
This was a hate crime! Oh wait she was white not the killers.

yay
3/13/2008 6:47:25 AM
Why did they have to have all the negotiations with him before arresting him? Did he have a hostage or something preventing them from just busting into the house? That's kinda strange.
3/13/2008 6:55:38 AM
didnt someone guess that they would find these guys in some basement in Durham?good call
3/13/2008 7:26:02 AM
3/13/2008 7:58:00 AM
^At this point we do not know what the motive was. It seems very likely that it was a random crime, but it is not a certainty.
3/13/2008 8:01:41 AM
i know that...just sayin
3/13/2008 8:26:18 AM

^^ He dropped out last year. His accomplice dropped out of the same school in 2002.Clearly they didn't need that diploma to be successful.
3/13/2008 1:06:37 PM
How fucking hard is it to graduate high school?

3/13/2008 1:47:25 PM
i hope the baby momma isn't his... geez
3/13/2008 1:48:50 PM
The only acceptable reason I can think of is dropping out of school to work on the farm because your family is about to go under and you have to help them stay afloat. I think that excuse stopped working around 1950 though.
3/13/2008 1:50:26 PM
Hopefully this will convince some of the other Durham kids to stay in school and do some community college instead of fucking up, hiding in a basement for a week, getting your ass kicked by Durham SWAT and then spending a few decades in prison while your baby mamma raises your kid by herself.Seems like common fucking sense to me.
