aph319, Ryan Cheek's Rivals page has these measureables for him. They list him at 232 rather than 215 like that on Scout. I doubt he has trouble qualifying with a 3.8 GPA. TOB is keeping his word on having "Champions In The Classroom". What would a 23 on the ACT translate to on the SAT? Is a 23 good? I have no idea what the ACT is like.Ht: 6-foot-0Wt: 232 lbs Forty: 4.51 secsBench max: 385 poundsSquat max: 450 poundsVertical: 33 inchesShuttle: 4.1 secsGPA: 3.8ACT: 23[Edited on May 23, 2008 at 2:57 PM. So a few pages back I said that the big 6-7 OT from Indiana, Brooks Michel, will be visiting State in June. Well the reason is so that his mom can see the campus. I guess she didn't get to come on his first trip to State during the Spring game. This is promising. Despite what his Scout profile says we are not his lone offer. He also has offers from Minnesota and Kentucky. That just goes to show you how up to date those lists are sometimes. Also here's an article on DL Julius Forte. He talks about his recruitment and mentions State some.http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=2&c=756756

What I look forward to hearing about camp:1) QB race: Bible likes to see his kids in action at camp before offering a scholarship. According to the list we have 5 possible QB campers: Toerner, Mershman, McElveen, Box, and Proctor (who projects more to safety than to QB but he wants a shot at the position which is why he's a Maryland lean). Which of these guys is going to impress the coaches?2) The unknown prospects: It's always neat to see who comes into camp and outperforms everyone even though no one knows his name. Earl Wolff made a huge presence at last year's camp and earned an offer on the spot. Who's going to step up this year?3) The future: Robert Crisp. Big OL who's impressing in every camp he attends and can out play most of the seniors he faces. If he comes to camp and enjoys his stay, can we get a lead or possibly an early commit? (please?)

TC Creecy I'm most certain is the Durham WR named Anthony Creecy that's in the 2010 class that I introduced on the top of page 6. The thing about our three commits that I like is that they all seem like good people. I mean I don't expect all of our players to be saints. I know I'm not , but it's just good to have confidence that our players will probably not embarrass the program and our school, which we are so proud of. Now we've just got to start winning and lock up the borders and become THE football program in North Carolina.

5/26/2008 2:33:53 AM
He's buff be he could stand to gain some fat. Strength is one thing but you also need weight for the DL to push against. I don't think it would be too tough to gain ~10lbs by fall.
5/26/2008 3:33:26 AM

http://www.wral.com/sports/story/2937539/WRAL story on Xavier Nixon. Watching that video makes me want that kid to come to State even more. He is a good student, is disciplined, and seems well grounded. That fits TOB to a t. Also he comes from a military family. He says he wants to graduate in 3.5 years. Reel em' in Tom.

Does anyone know what are our chances with MLB Glenn Carson are? Are we one of his top schools? Two of his uncles played at State back in the 70s and 80s, but his grandfather played at UNC. With our switch to the 3-4, middle linebacker would seem like a priority and we'd try to get another one to go with Cheek. I kind of wonder though if Cheek might be the only MLB we take since we had a nice haul of LBs last year. What other LBs will we land. Askew doesn't seem likely b/c of the whole bit about him having to take extra foreign languages (that's one time I wish the UNC system didn't have such high standards ). I think Corico Hawkins ends up at GT. I don't think we get Jamil Merrell. I think he will probably want to go to a school where both him and his twin brother can go, and we haven't offered his brother. I've heard that Michigan State is after Luke Kuechly pretty hard. Nigel Mitchell-Thornton is a guy I think we actually have a decent shot at landing. What happens if we don't land any of these guys? Do you think we'll find someone worthy of a scholarship in our camp? One thing that could affect the linebacker recruiting is figuring out where Ricky Dowdy will play, whether as a primarily rushing outside linebacker or a defensive end.
5/27/2008 1:41:06 PM
Carson would be a big get. He's a great football player and a great wrestler too (does anyone ever play these two sports on the collegiate level?). I wouldn't worry about recruits this early in the game. Summer camps haven't even started yet. This time last year Sterling Lucas was pretty much unknown and look how he blew up a month before signing day. TOB will find the players, trust him.
5/27/2008 2:56:39 PM
^ ryan goodman wrestles and is on the football team here. he doesn't do that much footballing, though.
5/27/2008 3:04:13 PM
^^ yeah Sterling Lucas really blew up after his performance at the Shrine Bowl, but he was already holding a few offers before that. He ended up getting a pretty nice offer list before all was said and done. Besides us he had offers from South Carolina, UNC, Michigan State, Maryland, and Wake Forest. Clemson and Kentucky were also recruiting him. I think he ended up being the 10th best player in the state of South Carolina. I was quite surprised that he chose us over the Gamecocks.
5/27/2008 6:43:46 PM
^actually, i don't think he really did. I know he visited us for the UMD game(last game of the season) and that wasnt known until he talked about it after the Shrine Bowl. He literally came out of nowhere at the shrine bowl when teams like USC, NC State, UNC, Michigan State, etc offered.
5/27/2008 7:25:39 PM
Damn he committed to us even after seeing the Maryland debacle? They must have kept him busy touring the Murphy Center.
5/27/2008 7:28:48 PM
So there is a concern about us recruiting a fullback. Well I found these articles about this guy Ricky Moore, from Clover, SC, who says that State and Duke are recruiting him the hardest.http://hssouthcarolina.scout.com/2/744475.htmlhttp://hssouthcarolina.scout.com/2/745382.htmlProfilehttp://northcarolinastate.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=3690960Ht: 5-9Wt: 20040: 4.6Bench press: 240 poundsSquat: 420 poundsGPA: 3.3During this past year's AAAA Division 2 state championship game he scored all 3 of his team's touchdowns in the 23-14 win. Besides State and Duke, a number of other schools are showing interest. They include LSU, Furman, Wofford, Georgia Tech, Elon, Middle Tennessee State, Stanford, Maryland, Penn, Air Force, and Charleston Southern.
5/27/2008 9:58:12 PM
I think Colby Jackson will be a nasty Fb when he's all healed up, which looks it won't be long since he was winning the discus and shot put at the state track and field events last month. The guy above looks kinda small to be a Fullback. 5-9? FBs need to be blockers first so if he's going to be serviceable, he's going to have to gain a ton of weight, and maybe a jedi force push. What's his mitochlorian count?
5/27/2008 10:23:37 PM
I saw elsewhere that he's grown to 5-11 and is now 215 lbs. He had had 30 kickout blocks on Chad Diehl, who's going to Clemson. He played LB for his high school as well. Last season he lead his team with 12 TDs. He carried 148 times for 771 yds for an average of 5.21 ypc. His longest carry was 49 yards. He also caught 6 passes for 44 yards. He only had one fumble on the entire year.[Edited on May 27, 2008 at 10:30 PM. Reason : ]
