man we sound like we were awesome.surely we made at least one elite 8 in 10 years, right?oh...
3/8/2008 10:05:49 PM
We were on the way to making them possibly though....now we have no chance at even making a NIT elite eight. We only made the tournament five years because our talent was too lacking to make it in the first five.

PLZ COMMIT TO STATE LORENZO
3/9/2008 12:51:02 AM
^^ We were never going to make it past the Sweet Sixteen with Herb. His unwillingness to stray too far from his Princeton offense, even when a particular game/opponent called for it, is the reason why. His last tourney game w/ us against Texas is indicative of what I'm talking about. We weren't hitting our shots early in the game and we got down. Texas was using our lack of athleticism against us and Herb seemed like he recognized this and put in Fells and Grant. Those two, plus Bennerman, brought us back even by the end of the first half. But at the beginning of the second half, it was right back to the same ol pass for thirty seconds and then shoot a 3 shit. Teams that live and die by the jump shot rarely if ever win the whole tournament. Especially when their coach refuses to change tactics, even when it's absolutely necessary.I'll take my chances with Sid and if he doesn't pan out, then it's on to the next guy.
3/9/2008 1:26:51 AM
God you people just have to bring up Herb and talk shit. So much of your post is wrong it's not funny.
3/9/2008 1:33:56 AM
^Yeah, you're right, Brand and Boozer were big jump shooters.

^^^ duke just lost to carolina in cameron. no way they win it all this year.
3/9/2008 8:07:14 AM
yeah, duke has been on the slide since the lost shelden williams, leaving them with just jump shooters. This guy is an idiot. Even if they were doing well, they are an outlier. Herb could never do what K does with the same talent.
3/9/2008 10:02:51 AM
3/9/2008 11:11:35 AM
I'm saying that coach K is an absolutely better coach than herb. Just because K has done well with a team of mostly just shooters and no bigs doesn't mean herb could.
3/9/2008 11:20:43 AM
Oh, ok... well that isn't a stretch. K is one of the best coaches in the history of college bball...I think Herb is a better coach than a lot of people give him credit for but certainly not elite yet... I think ASU might be an easier place to sell to todays recruits than NC State though... plus there is a LOT of leftover talent in SoCal to choose from.People can try and sell tradition from long ago and Raleigh all they want but to an 18-year old the perfect Tempe weather and tons of easy, great looking girls is a much easier sell. Luckily in general the ACC > Pac-10 for east coast kids.[Edited on March 9, 2008 at 12:05 PM. Reason : x]

I guess he might be talking about this year. The RBC definitely hasn't been a tough place to play this year.
3/9/2008 8:29:35 PM
Games that it was supposedly pretty loud and crazy for were Davidson, Cincy, Virginia Tech, UNC, Duke, Wake, Miami, and Clemson.
3/9/2008 8:33:52 PM
that's it... i'm going to spill my guts...after having lived through 27 seasons of ncsu basketball in my life and clearly remembering more than 20 of them....can say as an honest man that i remember the days of tom gugliatta and chris corchiani rackin up the big wins.i remember the les robinson invitationals and bobby sura when fla state entered the conference. and we can all remember the herb years of 0.1% excitment, but with the clear knowledge that we were going to go to the ncaa's each year. (at least i felt that way)and then the abandonment and ridicule of the nation when we hired the circus to parade our coaching problem when herb left.then there's last year. the hope comes alive that we -can- beat unc when they've bought the best basketball team money can bye and a great coach. and the sudden surge of momentum that had everybody thinking that we'd be getting an acc title in the next few years.and then there's this season. wow. probably the worst performance of players and coaches i can honestly remember. this is much worse than the days, much much worse than when we were -supposed- to finish last in the acc.i really am at a lose of words. but i still think lowe deserves at least 5 years to get this program going. somedays i wish it were 3 years though at most.that is all.
3/9/2008 8:34:11 PM
uh, the duke game was not loud nor crazy.there was hardly anybody there and the ones that were had blue on.
3/9/2008 8:36:38 PM
^^^ I was talking about the team itself at home, more so than the fans/atmosphere. And I was referring to this year more than anything, but JPJ has been a tough road game for any team to play since it opened last year. Our record against any better than average team, aka Duke and Carolina, in the RBC is pretty crappy. Not to mention we've had trouble with the below average teams at home this season.[Edited on March 9, 2008 at 8:38 PM. Reason : asdf]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR-ZDfUZZP8&feature=relatedI don't know if any of you have seen this yet, but this is a video of Julius Mays buzzer beater to win Marion's game in the regional finals of the Indiana State Playoffs. Watch as he catches the inbounds pass and runs the length of the floor in 4.7 seconds for the game winning bucket. If you notice he was also smart enough to try and draw contact and get fouled in case the shot didn't go in. You can see the ref on the baseline raise his hand to signal for a foul.Afterwards he stated:"I was taking it down Scott Wood's side because, if his defender switched off, Scott would have been open and I guarantee he would have made the shot," Mays said. "And if he didn't, I knew I could go straight to the hole."So far I believe Sid in how he mentions so often that Mays has a high bball IQ.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 11:20 PM. Reason : ]

During the Davidson game, Billy Packer called attention to our PG situation, saying (and I'm paraphrasing here) "if NC State didn't have a crew of assclowns handling the ball, they'd be a tournament team."John Wall, were you listening?
3/23/2008 7:50:03 PM
^How did Mays look? Capable of playing PG?
3/23/2008 7:50:40 PM
3/23/2008 7:53:02 PM
^^i think he will see some time at point herehe mainly plays the 2 for his HS team because they have someone semi decent to play point and they need mays to be the 2 guard
3/23/2008 7:56:04 PM
he was better looking than i expected he'd be, but i don't think he's going to come in and make us awesome at the point.
3/23/2008 8:07:53 PM
^x5 Billy Packer also was talking about Chris Wright and how he was committed to State when Sendek was here. He said that he liked Lowe but he ultimately chose to stay close to home. He talked about what could have been for Wright and State had he come here. The fact that he would get a ton of playing time b/c PG was the main weakness for State this year. "What might have been" and "That's some NC State shit" describe NC State's athletics history.
3/23/2008 10:49:23 PM
3/24/2008 1:03:26 AM
if MJ went to state he probably woulda blown out his ACL his freshman year and never played again...that woulda been some nc state shit right there
3/24/2008 5:41:25 AM
^ Dean would have had us put on probation for about a decade...And Mays isn't going to be our answer at PG. He's a combo guard.[Edited on March 24, 2008 at 7:38 AM. Reason : ]
3/24/2008 7:37:58 AM
Well Atsur was basically a combo-guard and he did fairly well here for us at point. But I think Degand and Javi will be enough at the point to keep us above water, it'll be up to the rest of the team to step it up.
