"now he's in the shadows of UCLA and Washington State"

There is only one shadow in the Pac-10...and that's UCLA. Even Arizona can't be considered close to a "Duke/UNC" type anymore. And with UCLA, Herb doesn't have to directly recruit against them.

I'll never disagree that NC State isn't a good coaching opportunity...but I'll be damned if it isn't a tough one.

^^It'll be USC and UCLA next year... Herb will get damn good recruits that don't fit in at USC, UCLA, or AZ. He pulled his best recruit Harden right out of LA.

ASU is within 400 miles of most of Southern California and only 60 miles from Tucson. There's a lot of scraps....

I guess what I meant was there there is only one constant shadow in the pac-10. And even UCLA looked to be losing that "shadow" a few years ago under Lavin.

Duke and UNC will ALWAYS be big shadows in the ACC. I use to think they could take a prolonged dive with the retirement of a big coach and a shitty coaching hire. But they are too established for even that to happen (see: Doherty). It will at least be interesting to see what happens when K retires...but I don't expect a dropoff for longer than maybe 2 years...and by dropoff I mean not in the top 15.

To be within 30 miles of both of these schools is just ridiculous.

It won't happen to UCLA again either. I mentioned USC because they have some sick recruits next year....I think recruit #2 is USC and #3 is UCLA. UCLA was 10-19 in Howland's first year and he has gotten measurably better.

I'm sure Herb will get some good recruits as well, and then ruin their basketball futures by confining their potential to his Princeton style offense

Not sure if anyone really cares, but if you haven't seen a Kevin Love outlet pass, here it is an example. There are over a dozen on Youtube. Ball lands past the free throw line from opposite baseline. On the Oregon State board, they said he practiced this pass in warmups and he made one, there were hundreds who saw it but it wasn't on camera.

^^ On gameday Saturday Digger said he witnessed it. A couple press guys wanted to see if he throw it over the backboard. He banked it in. Digger said other guys/former players tried it and the furthest anyone got to was the three point line

its funny, it seems like Herb's current 5 game losing streak seems to coincide with all the State haters on the Whiner Line and places like that who started hyping up Herb and saying 'Hey State fans, I bet you wish you still had Herb'...and then his whole team begins to fall apart

they're really showing their lack of depth

although Harden keeps pouring in 20+ points, he has been in foul trouble during the losing streak. when he and Pendergraph have to come out with 3 and 4 fouls early in the 2nd half, they go on their big time scoring droughts

i want to say they've scored more than 60 points in just 1 of their last 5 games...i havent been watching any arizona state games, just some highlights here and there, but we are all familiar enough with herb's system to know that if the outside shots arent falling, it could be a long game

i hate to say b/c i love herb, but everyone who watched herb here knew this loss was coming. this was a typical herb "get ranked just inside the top 25 then immediately lose" loss

anybody know of any Arizona State basketball messageboards? I wonder what the general fan reaction has been to their 5 game skid...I'd imagine some people are already sick of him but most fans probably haven't seen the typical choke job enough times yet

^^^from what i have noticed, when the season started, they were sucking herb's dick (talking bout becoming "herb-ivores" and shit) but now alot of them are calling for his sacking... about what he got on here

I think there fan base still likes Herb, they are looking down the road and not focusing on this season.

Quote :
"First off herb is not missing wide open shots. Herb is not missing defensive assignments. Herb is not the one giving precious little off the bench. Herb cannot infuse athleticism into players that lack it. Herb cannot "grow" his players taller. Herb cannot grab rebounds. Herb cannot get into foul trouble.

So untill herb can magically do that i say stick a sock in it pack fan.

The fact that you seem to think that herb can do that and is soley responsible for everything that happens ON COURT could be why your program sucks right now."

Herb cannot recruit players who can hit wide open shots. Herb cannot coach defensive assignments. Herb cannot recruit any decent bench players. Herb cannot recruit athletic players. Herb cannot "recruit" taller players. In fact he usually has them play outside. Herb cannot recruit rebounders. If you dare to rebound you will be benched. Herb cannot instill the discipline to keep his players out of foul trouble

etc

i like how theres somebody on there named NorCarAlum

a Tarheel fan going to an Arizona State messageboard to talk shit to NC State fans who are on the ASU site to talk shit about Herb...wow that makes my head hurt

This offense blows and unless you have 50% 3 point shooting it will produce 40-50 points a game. Three times yesterday at crucial points of the game the offense was nothing more than having 4 guys standing, not moving, just standing at the 3 point line and Jeff standing with his back to the basket at the FT line. What kind of offense is that? I am worried the NCST guys are right, this offense will cost us more games that it will win us."

what's better?

being a preseason top-25 (and not making the NCAA's )

or (being picked to finish 9th out of a 10 team conference) making the tourney

ok as an honest answer, since we're clearly talking about sidney lowe vs. herb sendek, they're both just as bad to me.

making the tourney every year and doing nothing is nothing to hang your hat on. neither is a preseason ranking that you don't do anything w/.

i guess i should say that at least making the tourney is better, but in all honesty neither prospects excite me. the tourney isn't fun when you know your team isn't going to so much as make a splash.

Trying out new guys until you find one that works better than sticking with the same old guy who isn't going to get better.

If sid doesn't work out and still fields teams that make the same mistakes, we fire him in 3 years and move on.

Jeff Pendergraph was named PAC10 player of the week

with that, it makes 3 Sun Devils to be honored this season (Harden, Abbott and now Pendergraph)
