12/13/2007 11:00:49 PM
hear me out fellas...This may sound dumb and maybe I'm just out of it...But if you were to compare sacks in a game to rushing yards for a RB in a game... What would 3 sacks equal to in rushing yards for a RB?
12/13/2007 11:02:00 PM
200....at least 150.Something Bush has never done.
12/13/2007 11:03:05 PM
200 yards?
12/13/2007 11:03:11 PM
4
12/13/2007 11:04:17 PM
Is that 4?
12/13/2007 11:04:26 PM
lol sack againsomeone pissed him off this week, im assuming it was all 4 panelists on around the horn[Edited on December 13, 2007 at 11:05 PM. Reason : f]
12/13/2007 11:04:34 PM
DAMN
my first thought was 150 yards.....
12/13/2007 11:04:42 PM
guess he only got half-credit for the last one..... so says nfl.com
12/13/2007 11:05:57 PM
yea half sack, to round out his seasonal numbers
12/13/2007 11:06:17 PM
milestone season for rb = 1000 yardsmilestone sack total for season = 10 sacks1 sack = 100 yards give or take
12/13/2007 11:06:27 PM
nm, i agree with ^[Edited on December 13, 2007 at 11:07 PM. Reason : .]
12/13/2007 11:07:00 PM
3 sacks = 300 yard rushing game??? nah
12/13/2007 11:07:13 PM
and 1 homerun = 4.7 assists! You can't cross compare stats like thatSacks come in bunchesYards come more consistently
12/13/2007 11:08:29 PM
12/13/2007 11:08:31 PM
over a whole seasonthink about a 20 sack season compare to 2000 yards Id say thats equal
12/13/2007 11:09:04 PM
he wont have the best DE season ever, but i mean this is only his 2nd season...
12/13/2007 11:09:24 PM
Yall are stupid
12/13/2007 11:09:35 PM
12/13/2007 11:10:02 PM
what
12/13/2007 11:10:16 PM
wat?
12/13/2007 11:11:00 PM
exactly
12/13/2007 11:11:16 PM
i wonder if there are as many 20 sack seasons as 2000 yards seasons
12/13/2007 11:11:24 PM
Too bad theres no way to possibly find that out
12/13/2007 11:11:57 PM
it isn't unless you only include circa 1982 to present when sacks became a stat
12/13/2007 11:13:32 PM
i would venture a guess that there are more 2000 yds rushing seasons than 20 sack seasons, by two. and that is only a guess.
12/13/2007 11:13:40 PM
Barry, Jamal, OJ and Dickerson have 2000Strahan and the guy he passed to break the record have 20, thats all I know of
12/13/2007 11:14:43 PM
Terrell Davis too i believe
12/13/2007 11:15:24 PM
looks pissed
12/13/2007 11:17:30 PM
looks like a site i googled said strahan became the 6th player to get to 20 sacks, more than i thoughtDeacon Jones, Reggie White, LT, Bruce Smith?, apparently some guy named Gino Marchetti, Willie Davis...im stopping right now from this list. i think some of these might be approximate >20 sacks season[Edited on December 13, 2007 at 11:21 PM. Reason : ?]
12/13/2007 11:19:11 PM
forgot about Terrell Davis, he had 2008 IIRC
12/13/2007 11:20:11 PM
nfl recod book web site22.5 Michael Strahan, N.Y. Giants, 200122.0 Mark Gastineau, N.Y. Jets, 198421.0 Reggie White, Philadelphia, 1987, Chris Doleman, Minnesota, 1989does not list any further so six looks about right
12/13/2007 11:20:53 PM
Mario hula dancing after his 3rd sack. think he wants to go to Hawaii?
12/13/2007 11:24:01 PM
I seem to remember seeing that LT had 20 one year, not sure though
12/13/2007 11:24:03 PM
well Mario only has 2 games left, I doubt he gets to 20 sacks this year... Id love to see him do it.. But he'd have to have 2 more big games like tonite to get there.
12/13/2007 11:30:35 PM
No way he does 20, but 15 is a hell of a yearBut sacks are probably the most overrated statistic in the leagueBasically it would be like seeing how many homeruns a hitter had while ignoring every other measurable variable
12/13/2007 11:32:55 PM
he should shoot for 15
12/13/2007 11:36:41 PM
well what else are you going to measure for DE's? you got tackles, tackles for loss, and sacks. theres the occasional pass batted down, and a forced fumble every now and then, and a DE might get lucky once a year and pick off a tipped ball. its not like they track how many double teams or OL shifts a DE forces per game, or how many times a blitz isn't picked up b/c the DE is drawing two guys.
12/13/2007 11:39:41 PM
Its just the nature of the position...its not a good thing or a bad thingBut people assume that DE's with low sack numbers are having shitty years, and that often isn't the case
12/14/2007 12:04:57 AM
so i remember hearing how peppers was doing poor the beginning of the year...is he still doing poor?
12/14/2007 12:09:55 AM
Mario is having a great year....because that whole defense is having a great year considering the trash heap it was 2 seasons ago and most of last season. I laughed my ass off when they kept showing his sacks just now on nfl live. I couldnt stop thinking about Reggie Bush sitting in his living room going "FUCK"
12/14/2007 12:12:19 AM
It is a better stat than the blocked shot in basketball... especially the way most guys block a shot into the stands giving the ball right back to them. To me, a sack is like getting the double play when runners are in scoring position.
12/14/2007 12:13:02 AM
3.5 sacks tonight, jesus
12/14/2007 12:29:31 AM
^^Your logic is almost as bad as your usernamealmost
12/14/2007 12:31:12 AM
I'm gonna disagree with the Slave here. Sacks are an extremely important, if somewhat misleading statistic. Sure, there are great run-stopping DE's out there who don't get many sacks, but by and large sacks are an accurate measure of the pressure that a particular player is getting on the QB, which is incredibly important to a dominant defense. There is a reason that the top sack artists are some of the highest paid players in the game. Did you see the contract that Dwight Freeney signed?Another very good article about the backlash against the Mario bashing of last year:http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/12/12/mainstream-media-apologizes-to-mario-williams-for-irresponsible/[Edited on December 14, 2007 at 12:51 AM. I agree, I shouldn't have said sacks are overrated, but they're not the determining factor in a DE's productivity as some would have you to believe. It's like interceptions with defensive backs; sometimes the best players get fewer of them since they have less opportunities. Hits, hurries, batted balls and even drawing double teams do a lot to help derail the oppositions passing game as well; they just don't look as sexy on a stat sheet. Peppers might not have many sacks this year, but his presence might cause the offense to leave the back in the backfield to help out on them, thus eliminating a possible receiver and making the rest of the defense's job easier.

apparently Richard Justice is a huge fucking douchebag
