This could very well be the beginning of the end for WWEThis just has been a complete PR nightmare for the business:- the timing of all of this with the Vince getting murdered angle-the 3 hour tribute to a murderer-the WWE releasing statements about how steroids were not in any way related to this then next thing you know they are uncovering a HUGE HGH/Steroid ring- they just keep screwing themselves by trying to cover the WWE's ass- Ratings, ticket sales, WWE merchandise is all going to take a huge hit. There are going to be parents all across America now that will not let their kids watch it now guaranteed. -And I am sure this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as what else fucked up shit is going on behind the WWE's closed doors as far as steroids and such are concerned. You add that up with the fact that the UFC is taking fans at an alarming rate......it's not looking good for the WWE at all.

To be fair, the similarites between Benoit and Favre go further than anybody here really seems to understand, and the idea that he was more like Ray Lewis is silly. I don't know anybody who likes or respects Ray Lewis as a person. He's not known as a family man, he's known as Stabbin' Ray, the Murder Machine. I mean, sure Ray Lewis is a better comparison now, but last week Benoit was much more similar to Favre: supposed stand-up guys with some serious issues and a history of marital problems.Besides, would anybody honestly be surprised if Favre ODs on painkillers after he retires?
6/28/2007 3:56:12 PM
Yeah, that Jericho/Benoit feud was a good one ended by a great ladder match at the Royal Rumble years ago. This whole situation has been surreal. I know I've said that many times earlier, but I still can't believe it even with it almost being a week later and all.

at worst, the WWE will just fly under the radar for a year or two... McMahon might even take the opportunity to clean house a bit, take the excuse to get rid of some trouble cases and a lot of the drugged up wrestlers... if there's one thing i do have confidence in, it's McMahon's ability to take tragedies and turn them to the advantage of the WWE, not necessarily by exploiting them, but by making necessary changes as a result of them...[Edited on June 28, 2007 at 5:58 PM. necessary changes like what?i mean they cant have enforceable drug tests or they wouldnt have any wrestlers left, since their product depends so much on aesthetic looks and attitudes, aka steroids and cocaineand if the favre comparison is really true, aka nobody really saw this coming, what kind of changes will make a difference?

No, I'm saying that vb's comparison had nothing to do with either guy being at risk in his personal life to commit murder. I'm saying the comparison assumed no overlap, just based on their professional lives alone. In their professional affairs, it would be equally shocking. This says nothing about how one might've been more succeptible to the behavior based on their personal lives.[Edited on June 28, 2007 at 6:22 PM. ^^ Which is why it's a flawed comparison. For fucks sake, have you been reading anything?
6/28/2007 6:25:12 PM
YESI'm just explaining that the comparison never went as far as you extrapolated it, and it was therefore not a terrible one.
6/28/2007 6:26:53 PM
It's dumb because it's so shortsighted. It's like saying "wow, I never expected Mike Tyson to punch someone in the face. It's almost as surprising as Brett Favre doing it."

rofl
6/28/2007 6:31:31 PM
You knew what he meant and you picked on it anyway, that's pretty douchey of you.Besides which, Mike Tyson hasn't always been professional in his boxing life, so it might be more expected of him for that reason instead of a personal thing. And nor does Brett Favre punch people for a living.[Edited on June 28, 2007 at 6:40 PM. Reason : ]

I'm still confused to what the argument even was in the first place. The comparison of Favre to Benoit pre-crazy murder/suicide is pretty spot on in my opinion. Favre is respected in football for his hard working, come in every day and do my job type mentality. He's not really out-spoken and isn't particulary super talented and skilled. He's become a great football player by avoiding big mistakes, being consistent, and working hard. Benoit isn't known for his mic skills, his wrestling persona isn't flashy or gimmicky. He was a good technical wrestler and his fellow wrestlers and the fans respected how long he had been in the business and how hard he worked. Wrestling community's reactions to Benoit committing these murders is probalby the same type of reaction football communities would have if Favre had done the same thing. Where's the argument?
