fells showed last year that he can be a pretty big scoring threat at times, but he needs to become more consistanti think either this season or next season, horner will step it up and be one of our best shootershe has a pretty good stroke from the 3, and had one of the highest 3pt percentages in the league last year
9/25/2007 4:05:11 PM
^forgot about Horner, he looked real good at times last year
9/25/2007 4:07:53 PM
Javi's a scoring point and Johnson is a combo guard. I expect either/both of them can shoot.Fells definitely needs more consistency in his shooting. So does Grant. Horner has a good shot. Costner's wicked with the three, and may shift to SF with Hickson/Smith/McCauley to play up front.

Trevor Ferguson is a major three point threat [Edited on September 25, 2007 at 4:47 PM. Reason : Can't spell his last name]
9/25/2007 4:47:31 PM
Ferguson probably would be able to contribute if he would stop thinking and just play. There were so many times last year where he'd have an open shot or an open lane and hesitate until it was too late.

Here's what is the probable College Gameday for this season based on TV slots:2008 * Jan. 5 Connecticut Huskies at Notre Dame Fighting Irish * Jan 19. Kentucky Wildcats at Florida Gators * Jan. 26 Creighton Bluejays at Southern Illinois Salukis * Feb 9. Georgetown Hoyas at Louisville Cardinals * Feb 16. Michigan State Spartans at Indiana Hoosiers * Feb 23. Tennessee Volunteers at Memphis Tigers * Mar 1. Kansas State Wildcats at Kansas Jayhawks * Mar 8. North Carolina Tar Heels at Duke Blue Devilshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_GameDay_%28basketball%29I can't wait till Sid has us winning and ESPN sucking us off for a change. Them being at Notre Dame to start the Gameday season seems out of place. Seriously though we need Gameday to come so that we can show the nation that the best, most rabid basketball crowd in the state of North Carolina doesn't wear blue or reside in Chapel Hill or Durham, and wears red and inhabits West Raleigh during the college basketball season.[Edited on September 25, 2007 at 8:45 PM. Costner and Horner can both shoot very well, but I think that we are lacking a quick guard that get a good shot off when one is needed. Fells' shot is kind of slow and he needs a lot of space. Engin could do this but he is gone. We definitely should not have a problem with having shooters on the floor though.
9/25/2007 9:06:19 PM
did you just say engin was quick?
9/25/2007 9:23:48 PM
Did Costner really say this?"I never liked them. I hated seeing them win all the time. I always wanted to be on the team that beat them." - Brandon Cosnter when asked why he didn't go to Carolina

Damn, I didn't know Tommy Burleson was that tall^^^^^^ And that's probably the single greatest sports moment I've experienced as an NC State student. I remember watching that game in my doorroom in Sullivan with my roommate and Hodge threw it down and we went crazy. Everyone ran out on the balconies yelling, throwing toilet paper in the trees, and chest bumping people they'd never seen before. It was great. Here's to more moments like that this year in basketball. Lord knows it aint gonna happen in football.

i think first in the acc and win the national championship.

w00t! Best frontcourt in the nation according to CollegeHoops.net! http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/blog/marchmadness/2007/10/best-frontcourts.htmlIn order to win a championship, everyone thinks guard play is necessary. That is true, but a team won't win without a solid frontcourt. If you have a post player that will get you a basket with the clock winding down, it gives you an advantage over smaller, guard-laden clubs. Rebounding and defensive stops down low will come easier if you have a good group of players in the paint. The best backcourts in the country will falter early in March without a solid duo or trio on the baseline. Who has the best frontcourts headed into the season? Starters in italics1. North Carolina State (Brandon Costner, Ben McCauley, Gavin Grant, J.J. Hickson, Tracy Smith): Just like Washington State in the backcourt section, it’s odd to see NC State at the top of any rankings. However, it’s tough to find a team that has a better combination at the wing, combo forward, and post positions. Swingman Grant is a versatile performer who can do a little bit of everything. He is not a great shooter, but he gets to the basket well and he crashes the offensive glass. Costner is one of the best forwards in the country that no one talks about. He can play both inside and outside, scoring in a variety of ways and rebounding well. McCauley is one of the most efficient shooters in the country, and finishes well around the basket. Furthermore, he is a good rebounder and a solid passer. Hickson was one of the highest-ranked big men recruits, and will enable Sidney Lowe to come up with several different line-ups as the season goes on.6. North Carolina (Tyler Hansbrough, Deon Thompson, Alex Stepheson, Marcus Ginyard, Danny Green): It will be interesting to see how this group performs now that Brandan Wright and Reyshawn Terry are no longer in the fold. Hansbrough is one of the best players in the country, and is a player of the year candidate. He’s extremely productive around the basket, and he is a solid finisher. If he expands his offensive game, he will be unstoppable. Thompson played well last season when given the opportunity, and is primed for a big year. Ginyard and Green will split time on the wing. Ginyard is the team’s best defender, while Green is a solid two-way player. Stepheson provides depth down low.Yay we beat North Carolina, let's hang a banner. 2007-2008 #1 Frontcourt In The Nation. I wonder why they didn't mention Horner?[Edited on October 3, 2007 at 6:53 PM. Reason : ]

^^^Horner may be 6'8" but he really is more of a guard. He just was forced to play inside last year.6'8" guard that can knock down the 3 is scary!
10/3/2007 8:59:04 PM
so what's the deal with the Red/White scrimmage being 2 hours before the UVA game?i doubt very many students will be there due to the gay ass general admission seating for FB
10/3/2007 11:38:30 PM
horner is a guard except for the fact that he cant handle the ball and is not quick at all and he can't initiate the offense and he's not a notable passer[Edited on October 3, 2007 at 11:44 PM. Reason : sdf]
10/3/2007 11:40:25 PM
Horner is a combo of SF/PF. He actually once said that even though he likes shooting the 3, he doesn't mind banging down low to score and get rebounds.

i've never thought of Horner as being a guard
10/4/2007 9:05:39 AM
yeah he's def. not a guardhe's not quick enough, not a great ball handler, and he doesn't really create his own shotsjust because someone is a good shooter doesn't mean they are a guard
10/4/2007 9:39:10 AM
horner is sick, though.
10/4/2007 9:43:37 AM
Evtimov 2.0
10/4/2007 12:10:24 PM
I am thinking that Horner could be a newer version of Lee Melchioni. You know, that tall lanky white guy that no one guards and nails the open three. He may play that role, and honestly, we need a guy to do that just like duke did. But Evtimov? I don't know about that. Evtimov had a deep bomb but also posted up very well. I don't remeber seeing Horner post up a lot, but he did play some good defense.[Edited on October 4, 2007 at 1:11 PM. Reason : c]

^horner can make some plays in the post. in the michigan game he had an impressive basket and also had a few in the acc tourney.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YX_2d9iSfgheres the michigan game, he also hits a J in this vid.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC1VO1BAx4Mthis is a mid range, but it was still a nice movei agree he is no evtimov. horner doesn't have that awesome hook shot.[Edited on October 4, 2007 at 1:24 PM. 10/4/2007 1:23:15 PM
Plus, Horner can run more than 2 mph.
10/4/2007 1:34:52 PM
horner is by no means anything near a guard but he's very athletic and cannot be compared to lee melchioni who was just a shooter. He's not a euro player like evtimov so he can't be compared to him either. He's a pf that plays the swing and can step out and drain as well as take the average bigman off the dribble. He's more of a melvin with less handles and more athleticism. He had plenty of nice baseline drives last season with use of the pump fake. He's just another reason why this team is so hard to guard.Thats the beauty of Herbs players in this system. Everybodys versatile and can step out and hit the 3, bang inside, and has the length and atheletic ability to make plays on people. When i say everybody i mean fells, grant, costner, horner, ben(won't shoot the 3 though but can definately take big men off the dribble)As we mix those type of guys with sids guys like hickson smith and hopefully a pg it really makes for a "perfect storm" this and next season. Also how is UNC's backcourt #3 in that? Sure Lawson is one of the best in the country but after that everybodys average. Tenn, UCLA and Marquette are all much better. Wayne ellington the #9 sg is wow.
10/4/2007 2:43:43 PM
Ha ha the "rn" in Horner almost looks like a "m". We almost had Homer on our team.
10/4/2007 3:51:15 PM
I think they are giving Ellington the benefit of the doubt being a top 10 freshman prospect, rather than judging by his play last year, which was average.
