^^^ From my reading of the events, I think a large contributing factor to the high death count was that it seems he went back to rooms he had hit to finish people off. From what I remember that's a fairly uncommon action in school shootings. Usualy the shooters move from target to target, seeking to inflict maximum damage, but perhaps not seeking to ensure each target dies. From what I've seen on this one, he would take out a room, and later double back to shoot anyone still moving. Not saying he couldn't have had some training or practice, but given the distance, methodology and behaviors of the victims it's not impossible or I think unlikely that he could rack up a high body count with little training.

Exactly what I'm sayingIt would be harder to miss with a shot than hit someone in a crowded classroomJust point and shoot

has anything been said about how this guy was actually stopped? did he give up and commit suicide when he ran low on ammunition or when the police closed in?

^^He committed suicide. Police didn't even have a chance at him. They didn't even get to say get down or anything like that. Apparently he heard them coming and didn't want to be taken alive so he killed himself because he still had plenty of ammo left.^Supposedly some witnesses say he left when the dorm was evacuated and then slipped away from the crowd!
