I'm still mad at Jaques Plante for stealing Gerry McNeil's thunder in 1954.

7/11/2007 8:47:08 PM
damn it. well i def fucked that shit up. i feel disgraced
7/11/2007 10:01:53 PM
everyone else got better in your division and you guys added jeff hamiltonyou guys cant be happy
7/11/2007 10:16:24 PM
i feel ok about everything.I mean, the last time everyone laughed at us and questioned our FA moves, we won the cup. When was the last time your team did that?[Edited on July 11, 2007 at 10:26 PM. Reason : heh?]
7/11/2007 10:24:24 PM
7/11/2007 10:39:41 PM
my team is good every yearI questioned your team last year after they did nothing after winning the cup. Your free agent moves
7/11/2007 10:44:58 PM
If Cullen comes back I will welcome him but it will be a stupid move. We could have resigned this guy last year without giving up anything but we didn't because his price was WAY too high, so now we're going to trade for him? $2.8 million for Matt Cullen? Maybe that would sound okay this season, but when we start having to renew some of our star players' contracts, we might wish we hadn't done that. Not to mention, Jeff Hamilton was brought in to fill the exact same role that Cullen did. Great in shootouts, can play third line center if we don't find anyone else, and can play the point on the powerplay.
7/11/2007 10:57:33 PM
Well, the Caps adding Nylander will help, but will it take them from the bottom of the division to be contenders? Florida really only added Vokoun, which will be a huge help to be sure, but really the Canes are still a better team.Atlanta's moves were pretty marginal as well, AFAIK, so really the question becomes more about how well the Canes can come together after that disappointing season and regroup. And anyway, what do you think the Canes should have done in the offseason? Clearly we couldn't afford a top center, and we're really pretty set as far as top 6 forwards go. Instead of going after new blood, the Canes will just improve as a team. We did have 5 20+ goal scorers last year, so hopefully we can just boost those numbers and get more consistent play from Ward and Grahame.
7/11/2007 11:00:58 PM
adding a solid defensman that can stay healthy for 40+ games would be good.wesley was a waste of money as well
7/11/2007 11:11:20 PM
Also, the offseason isn't over. Not that I'm saying the Canes are going to make some huge deal, but J.R. has made it clear that he isn't finished.
7/11/2007 11:12:55 PM
Leng Slewey will never be a waste of money. Yes, he's slow, but he never makes mistakes, blocks shots like nobody's business, and has been at least +10 in each of the past three seasons.
7/11/2007 11:17:11 PM
his jersey has a place in the rbc rafters
7/11/2007 11:18:43 PM
dude, you and I know he's washed up and for the amount of money you locked up on him this year, you guys could have gone and gotten lukowich, who in my opinion, is a better defenseman and is 8 years younger
7/11/2007 11:32:34 PM
You know, sometimes there exists a great unity on a team, where solid character veterans lead the way and give some intangible advantage to the group as a whole.I think Glen Wesley is one of those guys.
7/11/2007 11:55:11 PM
I can see him being there as a character player, but goddamn, you guys are going to struggle defensively again this year and have made no strides to improve your powerplay which was one of the worst last year.I dont understand. If I were a canes fan, I'd be pissed at mgt for standing still since the cup instead of trying to solidify the franchise as a cup contender every year.
7/12/2007 12:01:09 AM
with the exception of Nylander, I don't see a top 6 forward that has come to the SE division through free agency. Vokoun is nothing huge in Florida. Luongo was a better goalie and they still never made the playoffs.
7/12/2007 12:05:40 AM
Dude wesley is a rock on the back end. Just because he doesnt score goals does not make him a terrible DEFENSEman. The true measure of a defenseman is his plus/minus, and wesely's has been double digit+ for years in a row, despite routinley facing the other team's top line
7/12/2007 12:08:06 AM
Dude:
7/12/2007 12:15:20 AM
it's not just that they got vokoun. they added some key veterans to anchor the team. Brett MacLean was a great signing. Florida probably has the most young talent outside of pittsburgh.Olesz, Horton, Bouwmeester, Booth, and Weiss are all very solid.BTW, I wouldnt be surprised if Forsberg ends up being a Red Wing or Devil by preseason
7/12/2007 12:16:33 AM
7/12/2007 12:18:35 AM
the biggest problem with the powwer play last year was the lack of a qb or point player. A healthy kaberle and jeff hamilton should be able to handle that and let the top 6 and ladd and walker do the rest.
7/12/2007 12:24:42 AM
hamilton has very limited PP experience and only one year of significant pt. You guys are gonna hand over the reigns of your PP to him????wow in for a long season
7/12/2007 12:28:52 AM
Forsberg will not be a devil, if they don't have the cap room for Gomez and Rafalski, they don't have it for Foppa
7/12/2007 12:45:04 AM
on the powerplay, the biggest addition to be made it Kaberle or Stillman. If they are healthy, it makes all the difference in the world. If this core group can compete then we have the cap room to add someone as the season goes on like what was done with Weight
7/12/2007 12:46:46 AM
they will if he signs a 1 year dealwhich will be more likely if he signs somewhere closer to the beginning of the season. Not to mention I dont think the cap was the problem with trying to re-sign gomez or rafalski, They will def have to throw some money at Parise, as he is a RFA^the problem is if Kaberle goes down like last season, you guys are comepletely fucked[Edited on July 12, 2007 at 12:52 AM. 7/12/2007 12:47:16 AM
ok now you are just trolling. If it isn't quality, its depth.2nd, the Rangers are in TERRIBLE cap shapeGomez- 10 milDrury- 7Jagr- 8.33 players are making 50% of the $50.2 million capthrow inLundqvist- 4.8Shanahan-2.5Cullen- 2.8Straka- 3.3Malik- 2.5Mara- 3Rosival 2.3
7/12/2007 1:05:17 AM
why when I question the team does everyone accuse me of trolling? I've always said it was depthlook at the canes thread from last fucking year. I'm not. I just like to talk hockey and the canes are the only team people talk about on here. All the information I provide is accurate and objective[Edited on July 12, 2007 at 1:10 AM. Reason : /]
7/12/2007 1:07:13 AM
Who is talking about the rangers?
7/12/2007 1:07:40 AM
lolI don't think you are trolling at all.And in response to Kaberle, yeah, if we don't add anyone else and he gets hurt, we're fucked. So it goes.
7/12/2007 1:13:51 AM
You are trolling about Wesley, though. Maybe the money's a little high, but it's basically a loyalty bonus in what could be his last season. The fact is, on a team that allowed more goals than it scored, he was +10. He's not the best defenseman on the team, but he is the smartest and safest. If Grahame is worth $1.4 mil (and I'm not saying that he is), then surely Wesley is worth that much.
7/12/2007 1:34:14 AM
7/12/2007 1:36:19 AM
how is he washed up? he goes out there and does his job adequately. He brings veteran leadership, and he also leads by example on the ice. Like someone else said, he is a sure thing. If we are in a spot, and I had to pick who I wanted out there to keep the lead and play out the game, I'd stick Wesley out there. What this team needs is health, and possibly more stability in the net. Cam and Grahame are ok, but I dont think Cam was ready for the role he was given last year. If you want to talk about a waste of money, 800k to trevor letowski is a waste. 1.4 mil to glen wesley is not.

red wings
7/12/2007 3:22:50 PM
Why is that?
7/12/2007 3:29:10 PM
I don't think the rangers have a choice, they have gomez, drury, straka, cullen, hollwig, betts. Either Straka or Cullen have to be moved

The Capitals are still paying a good portion of that I believe. I have no idea whose cap that part counts under though.EDIT:[Edited on July 12, 2007 at 8:44 PM. Reason : .]
