i just got back from the golfsmith off of glenwood.WOWis all i can say.i spent probably 45 minutes in the shop. 3 minutes walking around, the rest at the driving "range" using their VectorPro monitors. and using the top of the line latest drivers.too much to say about the place, its about time raleigh gets one of these types of stores. there are like 4-5 vector stations (like 8-9 total hitting stations) and then 2 seperate stations that actually show the flight path of your ball stations.
12/12/2007 6:35:59 PM
oh and the new taylormade r7 CGB is by far my fav. driver. out drove the others by at least 10-15 yards and was a bit straiter.
12/12/2007 7:25:38 PM
Hitting the ball "strait" is important. Just kidding dude, I have mad respect for the content you've contributed to this thread and saw a chance to poke a little fun outside your opportunity to edit
12/12/2007 8:21:13 PM
man i dont think i have nearly enough credit as some of the guys in here. they play tons more golf than me. i think i probably goto the range as much as they play on course.
12/12/2007 8:42:51 PM
golfsmith cant possibly stay in business more than a year or two at the most. it is nice as hell, but theres not way they'll make enough $$$ to stay around. the company needs to go back to catalog and website only.

Today was friggin awesome. I hacked it around but this was perfect golf weather. I had 2 pars through 13 holes but finished strong. I hadnt touched a club in a month and a half which I think is a record for me. At least this year.

im curious to see how much shorter you guys are hitting the golfball now that it might get a bit colder than usual. if you go play.was watching the tube, and it said that a warmer golf ball hits it 10 yards farther and a colder one hits it 10 yards shorter.i forgot the exact temps.but i think they did room temp, then a few degrees higher and lower.
12/14/2007 11:25:43 AM
The main problem with the distance in the winter is the ground for me not the temp. In the summer the course firms up and you can easily get 50 yards of roll, especially this summer. In the winter the frost and dew every night really softens the course up. Its all about hangtime in the winter. For example in the spring summer and fall I will play the tips with my dad and bro. In the winter we move up to blues.

Played Eagle Ridge today, course was in great shape. The grass is dead, but the greens were awesome. Went 36, 40 for a 76. I'm happy with a 76, but pissed at how I played the back.

played some back in high school and and one semester late in college, but was never that good at it. i picked it back up this summer with a buddy of mine who was just starting out. been trying to play every weekend and was hitting the range after work once or twice a week before the time changed. so far we've only been playing 9-hole municipal courses (atlanta has several) and so far i'm down to the low mid 90's. if i could learn to put i could bring that score down considerably. last week i got my first birdie on a 277yd dogleg par4. i put my Tee shot about 75 yds out from the green. my second shot actually lipped out and stopped about 6inches from the hole and tapped in for birdie. i felt pretty awesome about it. i need new grips. i've had the same clubs for over 10 years and never changed the grips. any recommendations?oh if he's still there, take the golf p.e. with brothers, he's a great teacher and generally cool guy. its basically like a semester's worth of free golf lessons. he'll work with you no matter what your skill level. 12/25/2007 9:10:57 PM
charlotte country clubeven if it rains, i still wanna play
12/25/2007 9:55:44 PM
well looks like i won't get to play CCC today, but i do get to play nonetheless- heading out to the links here in a lil bit (hoping it will be a good course)
12/26/2007 10:20:33 AM
just bought myself the r7 460- with the sale, extra member discount, and gift card from my sister, i only spent 112.00 on the sucker... what a deal!! i also had them check my swing for me, and as i suspected, i didn't need a stiff flex like i've been playing with- maybe in a year i'll be there, but right now i'm sticking to regular

bttt2008 PGA season began today with a birdy from Stephen Ames on the first hole of the Mecedes Benz Championship

Just booked a trip to Pinehurst for Feb 22. The are running a February special, No. 2 for $252. It is one night at The Carolina, free breakfast the next morning, and a round on No. 2 for $252 plus fees and tax. You can add another round on 1,3, or 5 for $30 or 4,6,7,or 8 for $75. We are playing #3 on Fri, staying the night and then #2 Sat. and 11:00. Total price including both rounds and accomadations is $332 per person. Not bad considering they quoted me one round on No. 2 for $395. I am pretty pumped. Anyone played there before? Any tips?
1/29/2008 10:59:53 PM
^ stay in the fairway, and make sure you pick a safe target on the greens, all those false fronts and run-offs eat up a scorecard
1/30/2008 9:07:03 AM
it's a beautiful day- anyone playin today?
2/6/2008 10:58:13 AM
If anyone is interested in working at a golf course, I have positions available on the outside operations/cart staff at Brier Creek Country Club. One position is full-time with benefits (medical/dental) the others are part time. This is a relatively easy and painless job that lets you be outside and around the game. It also allows for access to the golf course pretty much whenever we r not busy (weekdays usually, late on weekends in the summer). PM me and let me know if you are interested or have any questions.
2/11/2008 11:29:29 AM
ordered myself a new set of irons today- getting the r7 draws 4-sw... got a pretty good deal on them, brand new 370 shipped in two daysi've hit them before, and I actually have a 6iron already (bought a demo version to replace a broken 6 i had) so I know what to expectcan't wait for them to get here and go out and play- i'm just curious as to if I will like the new SW better or the calloway x20 sw i already have- something doesn't feel right bout the callaway now that I've gotten used to my cleveland 60
2/11/2008 6:01:17 PM
question....why would I want a draw hybrid instead of just a normal one?Is the purpose of a draw club to make you draw your shot, or to remedy it if you already do?with that said, I went to Golfsmith and got that Taylor Made "3 iron". I'm bombin' that shit!I LOVE IT!
2/11/2008 6:36:57 PM
my irons just got in- i wish it wasn't raining so i could go test them out- they look nice in my new bag though
2/13/2008 2:16:49 PM
^^suppose to remedy the prob.
2/13/2008 2:22:44 PM
i wish i could play some golf
2/13/2008 9:47:15 PM
I played crooked creek today. It was probably my worst round ever but I blame that on being hungover as hell. Everyone in the group played like ass, but we still had fun
2/17/2008 10:56:56 PM
^ the greens are pretty slick huh? I played there Friday and they were rolling good, but fast.
2/17/2008 11:11:55 PM
crooked creek was always hit or miss for me. I played there 2 or 3 times when the greens were absolutely perfect, and a few times where they were the worst i had ever seen w/out being plugged.
2/17/2008 11:15:59 PM
has anybody used those Brush tee's? Opinions?
3/10/2008 12:38:26 PM
i bought a 3 pack from walmart. the good thing is they are reusable for pretty much ever.i cant quite get a good feel for them so i went back to wooden tees.
3/10/2008 12:55:12 PM
yeah, dicks had some on clearence, the 3 pack for like $2, so I got them, maybe ill try them out on the range...looks to be good weather approaching...
3/10/2008 2:27:08 PM
Probably deserves its own thread but...http://msn.foxsports.com/golf/story/7900512/Harmon-dumps-Daly-over-'shenanigans'
3/11/2008 8:33:26 PM
How often should you replace your irons if say you play once a month from 25 to 30 times a year....I have had my irons about 7 years now. I am thing about getting new ones.
3/12/2008 3:04:25 PM
^depends on a couple of factorsA. if you have gotten significantly better and need some irons that have a more aggressive profile (i.e. blades or semi-blades/not massive cavity backs, I cant think of the actual name right now but Cleveland Ta-3's would be a good example). This can make a big difference in your scores because beginner clubs are much harder to hit when you get better.B. If there is a good amount of wear on the face of your clubs then you should probably change them out but with the amount of usage that you are saying, I doubt they are in bad shape.C. If you are tired of looking at the same clubs for 7 years If you hit them well and they arent worn down too badly then its really just a personal preference. I had some Ta-3's but went a set of blades because Ive always wanted to a set and I got them for a solid price.[Edited on March 12, 2008 at 5:44 PM. Reason : rawr]
3/12/2008 5:42:54 PM
yeah, it goes with the whole "if it aint broke dont fix it". if you're playing well. stay. but you never know, you could be playing better. go out to your local range and demo some irons.or goto golfsmith off of glenwood
3/12/2008 5:50:47 PM
yall actually just missed a huge demo day out at knights play- it was supposed to be just mizuno but every maker I had ever heard of was out there
3/13/2008 10:10:52 AM
oh come on. why wasnt that announced? demo days are my thing. last year i hit up a good chunk of demo days. now i goto golfsmith, not the same, but darn near close
3/13/2008 10:17:37 AM
anyone playing tomorrow?got free time and wanna go out for the first time this year
3/18/2008 8:09:37 PM
Does anyone have any opinion or have played with Taylor Made Rac OS irons ?
3/18/2008 9:20:53 PM
I had the TM RAC HT set for a while and liked them pretty good, but outgrew them quickly. I think the OS are pretty much the same thing, just a little bit bigger head and larger sweetspot. They launch real high and fight off fades (slices) pretty well due to the offset. They're pretty solid clubs that have been out for a few years now, so you should be able to get a pretty good price on them.

Thanks :-)
