well at least hd dvd is in second place...lol

I actually have to root a little bit for Blu-Ray, only because businesses today (particularly large ones like Sony) are so risk averse and live only for short term profits. Sticking their neck out (and failing) multiple times in the hopes of finally striking rich on a proprietary format takes a lot of balls and I have to give them credit for that.I'm no fan of proprietary formats, but at least there's a corporation who's willing to sacrifice lots of short-term profit in the interests of huge long-term gain[Edited on May 31, 2007 at 9:15 PM. 5/31/2007 11:08:45 PM

6/1/2007 11:35:54 AM
i thought everyone and their cousin checked slickdeals.net
6/1/2007 12:29:19 PM
were there any more of the matrix trilogy @ CC for 20 bucks?
6/1/2007 12:41:50 PM
it was online for about 4 hours like a week ago...just check slickdeals regularly because price mistakes don't last long.
6/1/2007 1:21:04 PM
watching the Matrix ReLoaded in HD...BY FAR the best HD-DVD yet.
6/2/2007 3:27:47 PM
damnit that sucks.i don't want to buy the whole trilogy, wish i coulda taken advantage of that $20 deal lol
6/2/2007 3:39:21 PM
It's a shame that all the best demonstrations of HD-DVD picture quality happen to be tied to shit movies.
6/2/2007 5:05:53 PM
lol
6/6/2007 6:30:37 PM
Blockbuster just announced that they are offering Blu-Ray, and excluding HD-DVDanother nail in the coffin of open standards
6/18/2007 9:08:47 AM
another reason while i'll keep netflixsupporting a single standard is the dumbest thing they could have done.having the industries battle to make 1 format cheaper than the other ftw.[Edited on June 18, 2007 at 9:15 AM. Reason : .]
6/18/2007 9:13:59 AM
they support the VHS standard excluding BetaMax... is that stupid?
6/18/2007 9:23:04 AM
are betamax players readily available?
6/18/2007 9:25:16 AM
are HD-DVD players readily affordable?

HD-DVD is 300 for their new cheapest player. Blue-ray's cheapest player (or damn near) is a ps3 at 500ish.

^^ you can get the USB HD DVD add-on drive for the xbox 360 for $185 (that's what it was at the walmart in hartsville, sc -- i know the price elsewhere is $199) and it'll work on a PC (with appropriate software installed -- new DVD playback software windvd or powerdvd supports it) as well as the xbox 360
6/19/2007 8:32:54 PM
HD DVD came back with a strong showing to finish second, while Blu-Ray finished next to last
6/19/2007 11:37:38 PM
so what you're saying is Blu-Ray is winning?Where'd all the MS fanboys from the first few pages go?
6/20/2007 1:01:00 PM
i was unaware that hd-dvd was a ms product...
6/20/2007 1:52:14 PM
it's pretty obvious there is a direct correlation b/w the two.You can find all the same tools that were littering the first few pages of this thread in the 360 thread over in the Entertainment section.

Its somewhat incongruous that I would be told to "grow up" after balking at dropping hundreds of dollars on a first-adopter entertainment deviceand that the same person talking about how I need to grow up would quote a song that makes fun of being frugal.who needs to grow up, in this situation?[Edited on June 21, 2007 at 6:57 AM. I believe his point although stated in a childish manner is,"If these players are not yet in your price range (especially hd-dvd) then you probably haven't had dvds for that long. It would also be safe to assume that multi-media centers and enjoying their platforms would probably also not be considered one of your hobbies thus you have no business commenting on someone else's hobby and a market that is not aimed at your demographic (whether you cannot afford it or cannot justify the expense)."[Edited on June 21, 2007 at 7:11 AM. is it just me or did the nasaly tone of that last post actually come through my laptop speakers??
6/21/2007 7:23:40 AM
I bet you'd find mountain dew residue on his keyboard at lest a centimeter thick and a gallon of nasal spray on his desk. just a guess.
6/21/2007 8:04:26 AM
If i had a gift card which allowed me to select 8 , hd-dvd movies, or bluray movies.I would breeze through the first 4, then the last 4 would be a struggle."Well I've never seen click""Blazing Saddles would look good in high definition....i think""Couldn't hurt to own 3 copies of the 5th element...could it"
6/21/2007 8:07:12 AM
Well you asked for grown up so i gave it to you..In plane termsBitch you gotta pay to play and you're not worthy of commenting on a topic that doesn't concern your cheap and/or broke ass.
6/21/2007 12:06:55 PM
blazing saddles is a really good hd-dvdcorpse bride is the best picture if you had to choose 8 and didn't like anything else

6/21/2007 12:40:09 PM

6/21/2007 4:58:40 PM
ps3 has no good titles yet even though it is a much better movie player.the fact the a 360 can be linked to a pc is def ftw.^^ to validate your inferior home entertainment system.[Edited on June 21, 2007 at 5:23 PM. Reason : .]

6/21/2007 5:45:51 PM
=]
6/21/2007 5:47:53 PM
yeah, but i was bored and reading it and i like console wars more than format wars.
6/21/2007 5:50:56 PM
imho a real gamer doesn't get into console wars cause he'd be fighting on all sides.as soon as gran tourismo 5 is released i'll buy one... until then... still waiting
6/21/2007 5:58:19 PM
shrug, ive got a wii and 360. if the ps3 ever shows any promise i might actually consider it.
6/21/2007 7:12:48 PM
↑ mee too... i'm not saying they suck... its just that blue ray movies are the most impressive thing released on them right now.
6/21/2007 8:16:12 PM
