My royal last night was spades. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, OMG! the BEST suit! I had limped with QQ, and noone raised... it was just me and the blinds. I rivered the royal, but obviously 4 of them were on the board... I only bet $2, and both Rooper and Todd called me with low flushes. Not that exciting of a hand. The straight flush was later, heads up against Collin... with a board of 2686 (6/8 were hearts), I check raised him from $5 to $20 on the turn with 9hTh... then hit the 7h on the river. He checked, I bet $50, and low and behold, he called me with just a 79, a pair of sevens.

We have never doubted the fact that Collin was a retard lol....

nothing too serious though. but tonight, 4 of us were paying for fun inside dairy queen. 5 doller buy in no limit tourny.so im chip leader after taking all this girls money. and we've been playing for a while. so its down to me and her. and she has been winning like every hand so far, small hands, like $5-6 hands.so im like flunk this. i played blind the last couple hands. talk about shitty cards. im loosing money slowly and last hand we (girl and i) go in blind. 2 kings and some other shit on the table. and we flip our cards. she has a king and something in hand, i had a jack and something else.playing blind is fun when you gotta get this shit over with.twas fun

10/14/2004 5:58:41 AM
^^^^Halo, that type of beat happens all the time in limit. you cant fault the players with an A for calling, the guy with the 7's is a bit suspect though, but you gotta expect such plays at a .50/1 table.you with the 33, flop of AA3, against a A4, A6, & 77 there were 8 cards that would beat you.three 4's, three 6's, and two sevens.two shots at that draw hit 2.2 to 1. its not a bad beat at all. it just happens statistically.
10/14/2004 7:22:19 AM
^yeah, i know (limit is a LOT different from NL), there were lots of cards to beat me. I was glad that I at least made him pay to see it. I eventually made my money back from him.interesting, even though the other players didn't show, it still shows in the hand history what they had. That seems a tad unfair/not supposed to happen.[Edited on October 14, 2004 at 10:55 AM. Reason : .]
10/14/2004 10:53:43 AM
Yeah.. UB does that... I use that all the time if I'm trying to figure out a player..
10/14/2004 11:04:27 AM
^^ Anyone that calls a bet on the river is mandated by the rules to show their hole cards if someone requests to see them. Also if everyone checks on the river the same rule applies. This is frowned upon if you are doing it just to gain information... the rule is in place to prevent collusion, but really it's a dumb rule because if you were colluding you could just fold on the river to prevent anyone seeing your cards...Although if you fold to one bet in a pot that has 40 bets in it and you were pumping the pot on the flop and turn, that should draw suspicious looks anyway.
10/14/2004 11:10:38 AM
^i did not know that. Thanks.^^thomas, you have to get on PP its much easier than UB[Edited on October 14, 2004 at 11:21 AM. Reason : .]

i need a good poker psychology book to read.... i just can't control my tilts!!!! took my bankroll up 300 and then lost all of it... profit. i still have my initial 200, but i can't break out of this and get my bankroll up to a grand. playing 2/4. know it's all about statistics, but i just can't do it.... i'll start thinking "oooh i got a nice draw... i can make the flush... i can make the flush" and it'll be shit and shit on the turn and river... any help? maybe i'm addicted to gambling...
10/14/2004 11:41:29 AM
Don't chase if there are no pot odds.Don't fucking tilt. That easy.
10/14/2004 1:06:59 PM
If you flop a flush draw and you're getting anywhere close to 4:1 in limit hold'em... then you call... it doesnt matter what the turn and river are you call because its correct... (unless the board shows two pair and someone probably has a full house). Chasing a flush with proper drawing odds isnt tilting...Now if you're playing hands like 7-8 suited up front in tight games then you have a leak in your game... If you have AQ suited and you raise preflop and the flop is 10,7,4 and you've got 4 to a flush then you are certainly going to have odds to call to the river...
10/14/2004 1:31:00 PM
Pocket KingsEnded up with 4 of a kind on the FLOPto top it off, someone else had a full house on the flop, so they kept re-raising me. I flat cleaned up
10/14/2004 1:56:01 PM
^^Realized i left off an important detail on my AQ suited scenario...if there's 3-4 people in the hand you want to raise on that flop rather than call...two purposes... you're raising for value b/c you have the best draw and some of your 6 A,Q outs may be live....Also you can probably get a free card on the turn if you miss since you've represented an overpair at this point...Then if you hit the flush on the river you might have induced another player to lead into you and you can raise the river.
10/15/2004 3:03:21 AM
^yeah I play my flush draws, 90% of the time that way.
10/15/2004 3:11:06 AM
^^ to add on to what rally was saying,to those who didnt understand the free card, if you checkraise on the flop with that hand, and check on the turn, most people wont bet, in fear of another check raise. this will let you see the river for free many times. and i fyou use this strategy, it is cheaper to see both cards than calling one small bet ont he flop and one big bet on the turn, allowing you to chase your flush for a smaller price. plus if you miss, and you are fairly certian that the other(s) in the hand are holding weak cards, they may be afraid of what youd be wanting to checkraise with. sometimes i like to come out hard betting on the river if it is a small pot, even if i miss my flush. many times, you can take the pot down right there.but as with any little move like that in limit, if you do it often, it becomes pretty easy to read, and you will have to pay to see your draws.

i was playing in a $30 5 person tournament on pacific poker, and i eliminated the other four people in three rounds. i don't remember what i got to get rid of the first guy, but the other two i got a pair of aces on the flop and i raised on guy all the way in, and then on the turn i got two pair and so i raised the third guy all the way in. the next hand i had 7/2 off suit but i figured "what the hell" and played it anyway, and lo and behold, i paired both cards on the flop. the other guy raised my bet, and i kept re-raising him, until finally he went all in. i called and won $75. i'm sure everyone's happy for me.
10/15/2004 6:26:07 PM
i got real lucky last night in a home game, though it was just a $5 game. was dealt 9-2 in the big blind and checked to the three that just called. flop came 9-9-J, checked around the table, 2 on the turn. 1 person bets about a quarter of his stack and i just call. 9 on the river to give me a full house and 4 of a kind. he bets all in, i call, and he turns over a full house, 9's over Jacks. i flip over 4 nines and he proceeds to yell every cuss word you have ever hear of.

twice today I was down to under 250 chips in 2 single tables of nl hold'em, and both times I came back to win the tables.
10/17/2004 1:07:24 AM
My biggest hand in Atlantic City this week...I'm at a $2/5 NL table with about $500 in front of me, with AJd... it's a really loose table, and someone raised to $20 preflop. 5 or 6 callers in front of me, of course I call. The flop comes 6s7cJc, so I've got tptk (top pair / top kicker). The blinds check, and I check to the raiser. He bets out $35. 4 (yes, 4!) people call the $35, and I'm 99% sure I've got the raiser beat based on his play for the last few hours, but with the straight draws / flush draw out there, I know I need to check/raise it huge to get the draws out. So I put $200 on top of the $35 bet. The raiser calls me (I'm still pretty sure I've got him beat - I put him on JK). And now the problem is that the draws have odds to call me... so the next guy calls (he's all in for about $40 of the $200), the next guy calls, Chris (my friend with me there, folds his 8T, inside straight draw), and another guy calls! Enormous pot now... the turn is the 2 of spades, thankfully making no draw I'm sure... so I go all in for about $250. The preflop raiser calls, the next guy calls, and the last guy calls (he's now all in also). The river is the 9 of diamonds, giving Chris his straight, if he'd stayed in (of course that would've been a horrible call), but as best as I figure, noone else could've hit their draw! So the preflop raiser turns over KJ, as I expected, the third caller turns up 6c3c, he'd flopped a pair and a flush draw, but his hand never improved, and the last caller showed 45o... he'd flopped an open ended straight, but he never hit. However, the second caller, the short stack, had called with 72!! Yes, 72, so he hit 2 pair! He won the main pot of about $600. However, I dragged the side pot of about $1,450 with just top pair, top kicker! I never recommend playing tptk that strongly unless you really know your main opponent (the preflop raiser) as I did in this case. But I still got very lucky that the straight draw, the flush draw, and another 3, 6, or K never hit... tons of cards could've beat me.
10/18/2004 2:57:13 AM
i was in a game last thursday night which was three handed. i have A and Q. I raise pre flop and get immediate calls from the other two guys. the flop was low cards something like 742. the guy to my right goes all in. i figure he has hit trips. i fold. the next guy calls quickly after i fold. they flip over. first guy had KK pocket, caller had AA and won. glad i got out of that hand!!!!!!

Jon your stories on here remind me of what it would be like if I were trying to tell Joe Namath about a big football game I played in highschool.
10/18/2004 5:38:43 PM
Very nice, Jon. Top pair top kicker's what makes money in holdem, though you already know that.(Though by poker tracker, flushes are what make me money. Or tournament chips, anyway. Wonder if that has to do with the small 1k hand sample size, I need to register it.)Anyway, since I actually have a bankroll now, I've been trying some of the higher buy-in sit-n-goes at PartyPoker. Depressingly enough (not), they're not all that much higher quality than, say, the 30+3s, though the 1000 starting chips is an improvement over the 800 PP shafts the cheaper tables with. The higher stakes does stop the first turn four people all in shit common on 5+1 and 10+1, though.
10/18/2004 6:30:44 PM
^ Um...Top pair top kicker is usually a big dog when all the chips go in...You must be thinking about limit

I think what my good friend Greg is trying to say, is that to anyone who has played poker for any amount of time, many of the hands that are being posted are very commonplace. On any (and almost every) given night, I see KK against AA, so having AQ and folding it after the flop when you didn't hit is not out of the ordinary or even somewhat unusual... it's just a reasonable play when you know you're beat. As a matter of fact, posting a picture of you winning a hand with quad aces whe AAA flops and some moron thinks his pocket jacks are good isn't all that exciting, especially considering the hand was for fake money.Huge hands happen everyday. 2/7 off beats pocket AA. Someone draws for a flush and beats trips... hell even straight flushes aren't all that big of a deal considering the total number of poker hands played every day. It's just the circumstances and the $$ involved, and the read you have on someone that makes a hand special-- kind of like when Turner won a grand with 9 high. Anyways that's my spiel.
10/19/2004 10:12:59 PM
^ To each his own.If the thread was only for 1 outers, $1000 pots, and Royal flushes beating quads there wouldnt be very many posts in the thread...
10/19/2004 10:19:43 PM
^^I understand completely what G was trying to say, the assholness didn't help though. BTW the picture was actually from a $5 SnG not quite play money (close yes, but not free). I enjoy poker, I'm not good enough to make it anymore than a hobby but I enjoy hearing from people about the hands they played, how they got beat, or the stupid plays they made or others made.

I had just woke up this afternoon and, yes, I was a little cranky. But, still.......why the fuck would you post to this thread about how you flopped a straight and a friend's house and you could barely keep a straight face and ended up winning nine dollars. A lot of the stuff in here is pretty good and I'd rather not directly quote some of the ridiculous posts because I'm not that big of an asshole, but, still......let's not deluge this thread with posts about hands that most of us see every night.*insert smiley face here*
