that scene where the wrecking ball swung along the wall was awesome.
6/10/2014 9:55:52 AM
why didn't ygritte kill sam?
6/10/2014 1:28:57 PM
when?
6/10/2014 1:43:44 PM
I don't think she saw him. He was ducked down behind the railing. She would have at least have to leave her position and come around the corner to get a shot at him if she knew he was there and that may have exposed her to an ambush.
6/10/2014 5:00:09 PM
Someone explain what I missed.... How is it that the wildlings attacked castle black, on the other side of the wall, when the other army waits on the opposite side of the wall? I must not have been paying attention.
6/11/2014 11:24:29 AM
They planned it out that way. End of last season: Jon, Ygritte, the rest of the people that attacked from the south side all climbed the wall. That's how those wildlings have been hitting villages south of the wall. The entire wildling horde couldn't climb the wall undetected like that. I think the goal was for the night's watch to be distracted dealing with the massive army that they let their guard down and the party attacking from the south can open the tunnel gates for the rest of them to get in.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammer_and_anvilI don't think it's coincidence that Styr smashed Jon Snow's face against the anvil shortly before Jon Snow killed him with the hammer.
6/11/2014 12:12:36 PM
The hammer and anvil was a nod to a character in the books who was cut from the show
6/11/2014 12:50:28 PM
What character? It wasn't Noyle was it? I've been looking for a one armed guy at the wall and haven't seen him anywhere.
6/11/2014 1:05:45 PM
Yep, they had grenn take his place killing the giant in the tunnel too
6/11/2014 1:13:43 PM
6/11/2014 1:14:18 PM
^no, she was across the yard on another balcony/wall. when the other dude stood up with the cross-bow and exposed himself, ygritte took him out with an arrow to the neck.

I wish they had showed the 6 vs giant fight[Edited on June 11, 2014 at 2:36 PM. Reason : do the books cover it? you can add that to the no spoilers neat facts thread if you want]
6/11/2014 2:35:31 PM
its all Jon POV from what I recall
6/11/2014 2:37:21 PM
the giant in the tunnel was played by an actor who went to unc.

Nahhhhh he's way too old for her
6/12/2014 8:47:37 AM
as if it's unheard of for a man to marry someone 30 years younger than him (see also: Walder Frey)though Aerys would've been a closer age
6/12/2014 9:28:47 AM
Finally got around to watching the episode last night. That was awesome.
6/12/2014 9:35:05 AM
^^ the biggest problem with the olenna macro is that nowhere in the episode did she say anything about the guy joining the watch. Besides that, aemon was at the citadel by the time he was 10 and was at the wall by the time he was 35

annnd we celebrate Father's Day with a little bit of patricide. I love this show so damn much.
6/15/2014 10:14:44 PM
The Children was a bit too True Blood'y for my taste and not sure why the zombies growl all of a sudden.... But 100% into the rest
6/15/2014 10:30:51 PM
I thought the Brianne / Hound fight scene had some weird choppy camera angle switching but the rest was good. So now that Tywin is dead and Jamie can't inherit lands, etc. does that mean everything goes to Tyrion or to Cercei (which would make her apt to be a super powerful rich crazy woman)? Wonder if Jamie will get indicted for letting Tyrion out, too. They didn't wrap anything up with Sansa or that knight Dany got rid of. Also, I don't think the Hound is dead and I was surprised how unemotional Arya seemed about all of it. My friend said they left out the epilogue to Storm of Swords, which is apparently pretty epic, but maybe they needed more material for the next season.
6/15/2014 10:39:28 PM
I think that it just went to show how used to it Arya has become. Everyone she cares/cared about is taken away. It's just par for the course at this point.
6/15/2014 11:00:17 PM
^^my guess is that epilogue is cut from the show version of the story. The timing just wouldn't make much sense given the timeline on the show now. They're already into (or in one case through) the next two books for many characters.Anyway, good finale. Curious to see what the masses make of it all.[Edited on June 15, 2014 at 11:13 PM. Reason : ]

kings guard rule
6/16/2014 6:50:46 AM
Do we even know for a fact that Tywin is dead? Neither of those crossbow shots looked lethal to me.
6/16/2014 8:46:24 AM
when varys was watching tyrion's crate get loaded onto the boat he looked back at the red keep & heard the bells ringing. i assumed that was signaling tywin's death.
6/16/2014 8:47:42 AM
could have been signaling for a missing prisoner
6/16/2014 8:59:47 AM
^^ that's what I immediately assumed but ^ makes a good point about it possibly being for a missing prisoner.
6/16/2014 9:01:56 AM
A couple questions:Did Stannis land north or south of the wall? If he landed south of it, why would he bother going to Castle Black? If he landed north, what kind of strategy is that to land north of a giant wall that he may not be able to get his army through?
6/16/2014 9:38:16 AM
he landed north of the wall to fight mance's army because of what melisandre saw in the flames. i guess i don't understand your question. are you asking why he went north at all?
6/16/2014 10:09:37 AM
Yes that's my questions, why he is interested in fighting the wildlings. He's been obsessed with taking the throne for a while, seems counter intuitive to go waste time and men fighting an army that's on the other side of a giant wall that's kept them out for such a long time. The red lady seeing something in her fire would negate that logic yes, I didn't realize she saw that in the fire though
6/16/2014 10:29:30 AM
Well remember he also got the scroll warning of the white walkers, etc. I think that was the end of season 2 or so.
6/16/2014 10:35:30 AM
i can't remember which episode it was last season, but davos brings stannis a letter from the night's watch and melisandre does something with her fire, then agrees they should go because of the threat from the white walkers. sorry, i know that's not very descriptive at all.
6/16/2014 10:36:34 AM
I wouldn't consider Stannis' motivation a spoiler since it is pretty minor and fairly transparent, especially now that he is already actually at the wall, but I'm still not sure whether I should post it here in this thread or not since I don't know if it has been explicitly stated in the show.[Edited on June 16, 2014 at 10:48 AM. 6/16/2014 10:48:17 AM
I assume he wants to become "King of the North" first, to help further his claim to the throne. I haven't read the books, but that seems like what the obvious strategy would be. He needs to get more men before he can take on the Lannisters again.
6/16/2014 10:50:55 AM
yeah. I mean they set it up early in the show by having the Wall sending out letters to all the major houses in Westeros letting all know that the White Walkers have returned and they needed help to protect the realm. Stannis was the only one who was shown reacting to the news.
6/16/2014 10:54:55 AM
I remember the scroll and that whole thing in last season's finale, but that was about whitewalkers I thought...if he wants men it seems like coming in and killing a bunch of wildlings might not be the best strategy. How about announcing that he's got them surrounded and they should join him. And how does he even know that the wildlings have this army that's attacking the wall? Was that in the scroll too? I forgetI mean, it's nice that he's acting on that scroll and all, since they made it seem so important last season, but he basically acted like it never happened this whole season[Edited on June 16, 2014 at 10:57 AM. 6/16/2014 10:55:40 AM
Well, from my recollection, the decision to head North was made based on the real threat being what lies 'beyond-the-wall'. They didn't head there with the main goal of fighting wildlings. Melisandre and Stannis decided that they needed to help the wall defend itself from potential White Walkers. If the wall's claim is true and Stannis shows up and helps "protect the realm" from White Walkers while the other houses are locked in power struggles trying to find their spot in the new pecking order, then he may win supporters, especially in the North. It's a political move by a guy who doesn't have an army currently strong enough to continue a full war[Edited on June 16, 2014 at 11:09 AM. They've mentioned going north several times for stannis this season. They had a whole scene where stannis wife wanted to leave shireen and melisandre said she had to come because she had a use at the wall
