i think when merle tied michonne up with the telephone cord, she became a moral compass to him... etc...

or he just needed some shit to tie her up with.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the suggested symbolism, just saying I think the guy making the assertion didn't need a logical explanation of what the telephone cord was for

^Exactly. I get that he needed wire, but if it was just about wire, they wouldn't have shown it. They didn't show Merle searching for a hood to cover her head either, but yet he still had it.

Plus he didn't just take the wire, he took the whole damn phone. The same phone Rick talked to dead people on.

Just rewatched the scene. Daryl walks in and Merle's just standing by the cabinet with the phone beside him. They chat, Daryl leaves, Merle takes the receiver and hangs it up, then puts the whole thing in his bag.

you thought wrong. the writers for this show are not smart enough for that.

Again, not to choose a side, but thinking that there might be symbolism to the writers choosing to show you something like the telephone, which certainly has some significance, does not liken them to some genius director or even make them very smart. The fact that 2 people on this board consider that as a possibility further lends itself to that idea (no offense to them at all, I'm just assuming they aren't extraordinarily gifted literary minds)

I hope the Governor becomes one of the pseudo-zombies from WWZ, the ones that aren't dead but act like they are.

The finale sucked. No one cared about Andrea. And the acting has always been bad. I think this season was certainly the worst.

But I like the show overall. Definitely not the best show in tv, but it's solid. The writers aren't the greatest, but they are certainly smart enough to use a lot of symbolism (not so sure about the telephone, but maybe). And they explore a lot of great themes (redemption, innocence, forgiveness, hope, a lot of group dynamics, a lot of moral dilemmas, etc), as well as create a lot of what-would-you-do-in-this-situation moments.

And it wasn't a shocking...or even overly sudden change...for Rick when he let all the Woodbury citizens in. HIS SON JUST SHOT A DEFENSELESS KID! That's enough to rock a father's world. (I think Carl made the right choice in shooting him b/c the kid should have just dropped the gun, but Rick doesn't know that.)

This season did a good job of exploring the theme of "kill or die". And how far one should go to protect those they love (Rick especially) or even to protect what they've built (Governor). Of course, that comes with a price- your innocence, your humanity, your goodness. You work so hard to save your humanity and not become a zombie, and in the end you become one, or even worse than one (the Governor). Rick was on his way. Carl was following suit. Merle was much further along, but tried to redeem himself (which brings up the question of whether or not you think one can reverse this dehumanizing process, find redemption, be forgiven, etc).

The plot is full of holes. The acting is pretty bad. But I like the questions it raises and themes it explores.

Its a good show, with a good plot....but honestly, since the 2nd half of the season started, not much happened until the last episode....and still, the governor is out there with his henchmen. I felt like every episode was a set up episode....a set up that led to nothing. You can't have set up episode after set up episode after set up episode and have it lead to practically nothing.

It's a 50 minute episode. I'm sure there are deleted scenes because due to the time constraint...

Some people can't grasp the concept that an hour long weekly TV show can't show ever minute of a 168 hour week.

Story in the AJC about the actor that played T-Dogg, Robert Singleton. Could survive Perry Homes, but not zombie apocalypse. RIP indeed.

i hated how this season they had a character that not many people cared for, and then double downed on her making her one of the main focuses of the season, which manifested into a terribly executed finale.

After catching up on a few other tv shows that i had not previously seen, this has to be the most overrated, poorly-acted show on tv

I don't know if it's actually over-rated from a critical aspect (I don't know of anyone who claims it's a well crafted/acted show). But it's definitely over rated in that it gets a much more higher viewership than it deserves, anticipated premiers and finales, etc.

I think most people watch it for the potential of what it could be.

It gives me what zombie movies cannot... a "what next" after things have settled out a bit... what will happen to society? will it rebuild? etc.

but yeah they could do a lot better, but it is still entertaining, if just for the overall premise.
