^^^ Think of the children!

And the tornado analogy with the pre-existing condition was meant to dumb it down for you people. But I feel like the only thing getting dumber is me, as a result of trying to discuss healthcare in a leftist echo-chamber.

Thanks to JCE2011, who is totally an adult who's voter registration hasn't expired who lives in a house that he owns and not in a shitty college apartment with 2 roommates, I've learned that I'm wasting money on my homeowners insurance. I'm just going to wait until I need insurance to buy it because insurance is retroactive.

Thanks, this will save me so much money maybe I can afford to not be a leftist

It's not that I'm claiming to be smart, I'm just claiming you (the echo-chamber) to be dumb. That is all.

I don't try and argue much past common sense... in this situation it is the insurance business model, but apparently that is triggering to leftists who think a commodity is a human right because *the feels*

Pre-existing conditions include the "already got wrecked" health examples equivalent to a tornado destroying a home and then signing up for insurance to cover resulting treatment.

Not sure how I voted in 2016 then, or why my "apartment mates" haven't payed me rent, or where they are hiding.

He's a contrarian. And probably thinks he is a lot smarter than he is.

But just like the GOP, he has had years to (rightfully in some respects) rail on the ACA while only having platitudes to throw out and not real solutions.

I wasn't aware someone correcting someone when they misread a post was a "deflection"? I guess it was technically a "deflection"... a deflection from the straw man argument you were trying to create? Work on your reading comprehension please.

Like I said, leftists love to use an extreme, rare, outlier and try and use that "morality" to justify dictating a policy to the majority. The "what about children born with ______" argument is only relevant if leftists agreed to pass something that protected that separate scenario rather than a blanket protection on all pre-existing conditions.

Jesus Christ, dude, I was ASKING a question.

Any misperception on your part of me misreading or creating a straw man is a flaw in your own reading comprehension, dumbass.

Here it is again:

How does the tornado analogy work regarding those born with pre-existing conditions?

There is no straw man there. I am ASKING YOU A QUESTION. If you can't answer it just admit it, but stop with your bullshit deflection tactics you hack.

I never implied it does work with that extreme example. Your question suggests I did, that's why I'm critiquing your reading comprehension.

For the third time: referencing a rare/extreme scenario to push for broader policy is a shit tactic. It relies on an appeal to emotion to override rational thought. If this was about being "born with a pre-existing condition" then why are you lumping that in with the entire population.

No, it was a question, period. Anything you read into it beyond that is a flaw in your own reading comprehension. And why do you continue to dodge that question?

The question is: Should those born with pre-existing conditions be ineligible for insurance? The context of the question (ie, tornado analogy) was quite secondary; it's still a relevant fucking question.

And let me also remind you: Pre ACA, insurance companies would sometimes DROP policy holders when they are hit with some malady. In your analogy, this is like a home owner buying tornado insurance, getting hit by a tornado, then the insurance company says, "Sorry, just playing! You're screwed!" This is also a relevant fucking point. And remember--This is not a straw man--It's YOUR fucking analogy!

And just how rare is being born with a pre-existing condition, really? A quick search of my own found nothing, but:

I had in mind that a decent part of the population is born with diabetes, for example. On looking around, apparently that's not quite the case, though quite a few develop it in childhood, so I consider that to be relevant in exactly the same way.

JCE doesn't have answers for anything. He just likes blaming SJW leftist echo-chamber liberal media hacks (a.k.a. George Soros) for the ills of the world. Complain, complain, complain, but no solutions or any ideas of substance. It always goes back to SJW leftist echo-chamber liberal media hacks because they are all-powerful or something to that effect.

Why are you all responding to him?

How about this. He just doesn't like it called insurance when it comes to pre-existing conditions. So let''s just rename it for him. Henceforth, insurance in this thread shall no longer be referred to as insurance. We will now call it "entitlement 12." And I do see his point. When you start covering pre-existing conditions, it is no longer insurance. So you shouldn't call it that. It's an entitlement. You're now entitled to some type of coverage due to something (in most cases) outside of your control. But you are getting an entitlement based on something that has already happened, not something that could happen in the future.

So just don't call it insurance and maybe he'll shut up.

And this is in no way shape or form an argument against coverage for pre-existing conditions.

The ACA is a disaster. The democrats essentially drove the car off the cliff and now they get to point and laugh as the GOP shits themselves on the way down. So no, I don't have a magical solution to undo the damage resulting from 8 years of leftist policies that have left us with terrible debt and unsustainable socialist shit.

Either way, we wont even agree on what the problem is, so there is no way the 2 sides would agree on a solution if we disagree on what is/isn't a problem.

Do you understand how inheriting massive wars, a catastrophic economy in desperate need of stimulus and (most uncontrollably) interest contribute to national debt?

That's not to say he and Democrats didn't contribute to it but you, as with almost everything, are showing such a complete lack of understanding here it's amazing.

yea yea that was a derp on my part.

But I do believe that if we're going to cover preexisting conditions, we shouldn't call it insurance. If you google the definition of insurance, you see the following:

Quote :
"a thing providing protection against a possible eventuality."

Preexisting conditions, especially those at birth, are obviously not a possible eventuality, they are the currently reality.

Are you seriously suggesting that, pre ACA, healthcare was a problem-less wonderland? Because that certainly seems to be what you are implying.

Here's a fucking hint: Healthcare was a clusterfuck before ACA was ever introduced; many of the problems you claim to be "entirely your mess" actually predate ACA by fucking decades and can therefore not be blamed on ACA.

Lots of triggered leftist hacks ITT, I may have set a new record.

Yes, the healthcare shit show is the democrat's fault, because even with a flawed clusterfuck before the ACA, at least you weren't forcing people into a shitty, unsustainable, socialist panzi scheme.

Even with an unconstitutional mandate, you still couldn't lower premiums, probably because if you can't deny based on pre-existing conditions IT ISNT INSURANCE. Meaning as rmflml said it is an entitlement, funded by a redistribution of wealth that productive Americans simply don't want. The ACA was dogshit, to such an extent that Donald Fucking Trump is #YesYourPresident

If that's the case he has a right to be angry. People in that demographic have been left behind by various policies, largely thanks to the GOP. They don't have enough skills to get a good job, are perpetually underemployed, don't have the political clout or stability of the wealthy, don't have the urgency of the poor.

If you were in his shoes you'd cling to the only group that you were a part of that was fully enfranchised, which is "white people."

When democrats are inept at addressing inequality and this is not even on the republican radar, ethnonstionalism might seem like a good idea.
