I've only seen 1 place where it was cheaper to fill a growler than to buy a 6-pack, but the catch is that they don't bottle (Blue and Gray Brewery in Fredericksburg, VA - $8 growler fill for non-seasonals).When the Jade IPA came out at Foothills, I picked up a growler of it and it was close to $15...it's a good beer, but not worth that.
3/17/2013 12:50:39 PM
how much is your monthly expenditure on beer?
3/17/2013 1:25:58 PM
^^And you have to drive through a dodgy warehouse district to even get to the place.
3/17/2013 2:11:36 PM
was that $8 for a 64oz growler? If so that's a steal. IIRC most of my Foothills growlers have been in the $12-15 range, a couple bucks less if you bring your own growler. Wicked Weed in Asheville has pretty decent prices. 32oz mini growler of their Freak DIPA was $10 and Bourbon Barrel Porter was $12. that included cost of the container. not bad for specialty.
3/17/2013 3:00:10 PM
My first ever growler was a swingtop from Front Street back around '04, and fills were $5...they've never had the best beer around, but I've always thought it's decent, and sure as hell didn't care back then.Blue & Gray on the other hand, not sure I'd even want a $5 fill from them today.

Spotted the Sam Adams New Albion Ale on markdown for $3.99 already, must not be selling well.

if you guys can find it make sure you don't pass up on a bottle of Allagash FV-13. One of the best sours and best beers overall I had at Brewvival this year. Just released in limited amounts here in NC.
3/22/2013 7:16:05 PM
I'm going to take this post to reaffirm that I love the shit out of St Bernardus Abt 12.
3/23/2013 12:14:35 AM
New Albion was a one time thing. All off it has left the warehouse so if it's being marked down its just to clear space for a new product.
3/23/2013 10:11:07 AM
Sam Adam's Thirteenth Hour is pretty damn good... at least I think so.

3/26/2013 10:04:41 AM
^where from?
3/26/2013 10:07:32 AM
i brought a couple Central Waters BBL Barleywines to a bottle share late last year and it was the surprise hit of the night. people who had never had it didn't expect much from the 12oz bottle with an understated label. but it's an amazing beer.and ^that is quite the haul. i'm pretty jealous. I've curbed my beer buying quite a bit lately.
3/26/2013 10:07:34 AM
yeah cw have changed the labels this year, with a tick for 2013-2018, so i assume they'll be the same for a while. they're a lot less cartoony.wdprice, i guess central waters only makes it to min/wisc/ill/pa... most of those bottles were from trades or mules. a previous trading partner in the philly area hooked me up with the central waters, firestone walker, and arcadia stuff... for bottles i had in my "cellar" that i have had before and didn't mind parting with. dude loves him some jester king and boulevard love child #2. the cascades were part of a group buy, and the juliets were sent from a friend in massachusetts. paypal cash, get beer.[Edited on March 26, 2013 at 10:19 AM. i love Central Waters, it's well appreciated. BBS & BBBW FTW!let me know how cereal killer is, i almost traded for a bottle last month and kind of regret not getting it.

3/26/2013 8:04:49 PM
some great beers there prosperothe avery barrel aged series are all so good. have you had those odells before?
3/27/2013 8:46:34 AM
Oud Floris rocks.
3/27/2013 9:11:17 AM
yea, I live in Denver so I get all Odell, I've actually had all of them before.I had L&L when it came out, Meddler like 10x, Pentagram at GABF, Rumpkin & Oud Floris just added to the 2-3 other bottles of each I have in my cellar, and I've had Deconstruction Batch 2 (2012)...The interesting thing is this is a Deconstruction Batch 1 (2010/1) that was brewed by Chad Yakobson (who left Odell to start Crooked Stave). Odell's batch 1 was/is Chad's recipe. So I'm going to pair it with a batch 2 and see if Odell could replicate Chad's awesome batch 1. FWIW, without a side-by-side, I have enjoyed batch 2. So anyhow there's some history with this batch 1 of Deconstructionalso picked up some Crooked Stave Origins Burgundy Sour last Friday:Birthday is coming up on Friday, a week from Saturday I'm having a beer tasting...Preliminary List:Cigar City Guava Grove SaisonElevation SeƱorita Horchata Imperial PorterFunkwerks Dark ProphetFirestone Walker 15 (XV) Anniversary Ale* Cascade The Vine 2011* Deschutes The DissidentStone EnjoyBy 04.20.13Alpine Duet IPAAlpine Nelson IPAKern Citra DIPA* Cantillon Fou' Foune 2011* Goose Island JulietCigar City Hunaphu's Imperial StoutBig Sky Ivan the TerribleAlesmith Speedway StoutDeschutes The Abyss 2010Founder's CBS * Cantillon Classic Gueuze* Cantillon Lou Pepe Kriek 2009Deschutes Mirror Mirror 2009Dry Dock Bligh's BA Barleywine 2012Pelican Pub Mother of All Storms 2011Goose Island King HenryShould whittle my cellar back below 200.[Edited on March 27, 2013 at 1:33 PM. Man, I feel like my beer knowledge has slipped every time I read this thread. I drank 4 Lagunitas Sucks last night. Pretty damn good. Gonna hang out at Big Boss tonight after I return some kegs. I bought 3 kegs from them for my wedding and only 1.5 got drank. I bought a keg of their limited release Penny Belle and I think I was the only one to drink any. What a waste. Some of the older men at the wedding brought in light beer. I overheard one of them saying Hell's Belle was too heavy. Sheesh.
3/30/2013 2:03:29 PM
not going to lie, i put away quite a few Leinenkugel Summer Shandies today after my bike ride. The radler is probably the greatest afternoon drink around.
3/30/2013 7:35:11 PM
When I studied abroad in Austria, nothing was better than a Radler when the weather warmed up. So refreshing.

One of my all-time favorites. Jealous you get it distro'd in NC.Just found out, 2014 Craft Brewers Conference, World Beer Cup, and of course GABF are going to be in Denver next year. What an epic year it will be.
4/2/2013 3:28:46 PM

My gf is in Asheville so I sent her to Bruisin' Ales to grab some stuff for me (Catawba, Pisgah, etc) She did well, and even surprised me with a bottle of Highland Imperial Kashmir (supposedly they only got a case).

Due to some good fortune I am now in the possession of a $100 gift certificate for Bottle Revolution.Any suggestions for me to buy? I know my way around beer, but don't see any harm in asking for suggestions.FYI I hate IPAs/bitter beers and heavy stouts.
4/4/2013 2:20:18 PM
maybe you should stick to your shock top and give that gift card to someone who likes those styles
4/4/2013 2:27:02 PM
Where is KBS in Charlotte? Salud is already out
4/4/2013 4:42:35 PM
probably gone everywhere. I didn't land any, but i didn't search either.most places sold it Monday and Tuesday. Jason (Salud) held his because he was on vacation until today.
4/4/2013 4:50:30 PM
I was hoping to get some to try but don't ever have the time to make runs to pick up this stuff that goes so quickly.
4/4/2013 4:56:40 PM
are you on twitter? Follow @drinkblogrepeathe can be annoying sometimes, thinks he's the end all be all of SC beer news, but he does a pretty good job of covering Greenville area beer events. He'll know when/where you can try KBS on tap if you are interested.
4/4/2013 4:59:00 PM
i don't post but I can follow someone. I am out of town for a job assignment but I am home to Greenville a few times a month still. Plus that's good info in general for when I'm back home. I appreciate it I usually go to a place called Greenville Beer Exchange and they are pretty good about having stuff on facebook but I've been out of the loop being in a different city.[Edited on April 4, 2013 at 5:08 PM. Just found out that the first annual Carytown Craft Beer festival will be happening in Richmond two Sundays from now. Doesn't look like it will be a huge event but a lot of the Virginia breweries will be represented. Plus it's within walking distance of my house.

Austin just loosened up on their micro brew restrictions, and breweries have just exploded over the past couple years. This city is like an oasis of good bears now.My favorite is everything from Adelbarts [Edited on April 5, 2013 at 3:48 AM. Reason : s]
