phone did the same delayed lock using nav this morning. And something was all sorts of wonky with the turn by turn voice directions. The map was correct but the voice said "continue on I40 for 22 miles" when I was still about 10 min from even being on 40 and told me to turn on highway 54 when I hadn't even gotten to Durham. Went to the verizon store and they claimed no one had reported any gps issues. And apparently there is a slight difference in the design of the top of my car charger compared to the one they're selling now that is causing it not to fit tightly.

GPS is working beautifully for me so far. There have been a couple instances where it took 1-2 minutes to get a lock after being turned back on, but no biggie
9/15/2010 4:45:04 PM
Was it just me or does the screen on the fascinate seem more pixelated than others? I just felt like I could see each individual pixel whereas I can't on the X.Which kinda sucks because I really liked the way it felt in hand. Damn being wishy washy.
9/15/2010 4:58:00 PM
Only cool people like me get the X... panoramic camera mode is awesome btw
9/15/2010 5:03:03 PM
^^ I think the image quality of the Fascinate is way better then any other non-AMOLED phone.
9/15/2010 5:12:16 PM
I have a Vibrant, the screen on it blows the fucking X out of the water. My colleague, who owns an X also agrees to this. There is NO way the X has a better screen/color.
9/15/2010 5:35:13 PM
Agreed, the screen on this Fascinate is simply amazing
9/15/2010 5:39:16 PM
yeah, I definitely haven't noticed any pixelation on the Fascinate and as stated above, it looks a shitton better than the X.
9/15/2010 5:58:47 PM
Maybe I need to compare again or this fascinate was screwy, but it definitely wasn't a shitton better.
9/15/2010 6:21:50 PM
^^you havin any better luck with your GPS? Mine seems to progressively be getting better, maximum lock time in between restarts is about 15-30 seconds.
9/15/2010 6:42:46 PM
nah, still 3-5min on a cold start. Just tried it using GPSTest and it took about 3 minutes to get an accurate lock.
9/15/2010 6:46:24 PM
Is that going to be fixed with 2.2?
9/15/2010 6:53:07 PM
Samsung is aware of the GPS issues and have said they were working on a fix for their other Galaxy S phones. I'd imagine they just work it into 2.2 since they're supposedly going to have that done soon.
9/15/2010 7:04:21 PM
who knows, below is the info from the known issues document for the fascinate.http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/09/10/samsung-fascinate-known-issues-document-leaks/
9/15/2010 7:04:48 PM
The day has come. The day has passed.Still 2.2 is only for some.So Moto/VZW, kiss my ass.
9/15/2010 8:10:41 PM
^^FWIW xda found a way to improve GPS functionality (not completely fix the issue) on the Vibrant and Captivate. I think it works on the Epic and should work on the Fascinate too.

Anything other than task killer I can do to my Evo to help battery life? I was playing with it allot today and I only got 5hrs from a full charge.

HTC Desire HD and Desire Z and new SenseUI previewhttp://androidandme.com/2010/09/news/desire-hd-becomes-htcs-fastest-android-phone-yet/]
9/15/2010 9:25:27 PM
9/15/2010 9:40:22 PM
^yep. The task killer isn't going to help, it is going to hurt you. Read up on how android works and you'll figure this out (I, too, used to use a task killer)
9/15/2010 9:42:49 PM
I flashed the gps fix on my Vibrant (not the entire leaked rom), and can confirm my gps is great now. Can lock on about 8 birds in matter of seconds, approximately 20 foot accuracy. Before it was 1 lock and abysmal accuracy.
9/15/2010 9:43:43 PM
there are reasons to use a task killer, but the way most people use them will only hurt you. Killing off bloatware that isn't actually running uses more energy than doing nothing. Killing off a buggy program that is actually running in the background when it shouldn't will help. If you use one, you should probably use one that shows whether it's actually drawing CPU cycles.the EVO just isn't a phone that's going to have great battery life. 65nm Snapdragons aren't the most energy efficient processors out there.[Edited on September 15, 2010 at 9:58 PM. 9/15/2010 9:55:26 PM
^yeh, but the average user won't figure that out/know it, so it's best to tell them to leave task killers alone.
9/15/2010 10:10:22 PM
TK = Hell No. Especially with the newer phones/OS!
9/16/2010 1:10:50 PM
Is the Google Voice app/widget sluggish as hell for anyone?
9/16/2010 1:25:03 PM
Does anyone use Good for Enterprise to sync with corporate mail? That's what everyone here has to use for their mobile email if they don't use BES. BES is pretty much the only thing good about a BB keeping me from throwing it our the window.
9/16/2010 1:28:41 PM
^^ Senez, I do not use it... but have you tried Vlingo?
9/16/2010 1:52:24 PM
^^^Yeah I've noticed that too. It's really annoying.
9/16/2010 2:34:16 PM
Sweet. Samsung released all the source code for the Fascinate. http://opensource.samsung.com/
9/16/2010 2:58:35 PM
What does that mean for the phone?Endless possibilities?
9/16/2010 3:01:18 PM
https://opensource.motorola.com/sf/projects/droidxMotorola does the same thing. I'm pretty sure nothing useful comes from these that can't be taken directly from the stock ROMs on the phone. If there was the DX would be a lot further along by now.
9/16/2010 3:25:31 PM
Just sold my Droid. Girl looked at me funny when I was about to cry.
9/16/2010 5:01:37 PM
Did you go Droid -> X -> Fascinate? I'm so confused as to what device you have now.
9/16/2010 5:28:48 PM
Had the droid, did a factory reset and couldn't reactivate, got sent another, loose keyboard and wifi disconnects, got sent another, randomly rebooted on phone calls, got sent another, finally got one that worked, bought a Fascinate, sold the Droid, HAPPY]
9/16/2010 5:32:10 PM
nice.

Tough to swype with sweaty hands after working out
9/16/2010 10:16:00 PM
i find it always hard to swype. for some reason there's always too much friction between my finger and the screen for it to work well.
9/16/2010 10:53:20 PM
my silicone case helps, i just rub my finger on it a bit then it slides easier on the screen
9/16/2010 11:05:16 PM
Here's a question: why does the browser reload the page when I switch to another app and back?Oftentimes I will be reading an article, switch to something else, come back later without a connection.... the browser tries to reload and I get a page not found.
9/17/2010 8:24:49 AM
9/17/2010 9:00:12 AM
^^ mine doesn't reload. I'm using the dolphin HD from the market, try using that instead.
9/17/2010 10:37:29 AM
What are you guys using for cases on the fascinate? There isn't much out there right now and I'd need one if I switched.
9/17/2010 10:53:59 AM
Is it possible to activate a phone if the phone is still active on another account? Does the phone have to be deactivated first?
9/17/2010 11:13:56 AM
I think you have to take it to the store or call CS. They just need to switch the ESN I think.
9/17/2010 11:39:24 AM
^^^ What do you like in a case? My brother has one that's just a think silicone shell that he seems to like well enough.
9/17/2010 1:15:12 PM
^^^ Another phone will need to be activated on the other to free up the ESN, otherwise the system isn't going to let you put it on another line.As for a case, I got the holster/case combo from verizon and it's decent. It has a hard shell that protects the back and sides of the phone and a belt clip part that you can use also.]
9/17/2010 1:21:45 PM
I just went with the silicone cover
