We might be able to strike a deal

I usually do something goofy to get people's attention then yell "Hey everyone look at me! now look at my lens" then take three shots and move them along. I'm still not comfortable with doing formal shots yet, but I shoot with another photographer who does so it works out.[Edited on October 20, 2008 at 11:15 PM. Reason : ]

Formal shots are boring. Call me EMCE
10/20/2008 11:18:30 PM
that's why you gotta spice it up and get interesting angles and perspectives.

the 1st picture would have been an awesome panoramic shot.
10/21/2008 12:19:00 PM
Ya, I keep on meaning to do a panoramic shot like that...but the sun was setting and we were facing a number of rappels just to get off the mountain--no time for photography!

i took some pictures at my friends show last week. they could be a little lighter, but for what they are and for how inexperienced i am, i think they're pretty ok. pointers are welcome...this one came out almost exactly how i was hoping it would. i was going for an harsh contrast flash with light in the right spots. eh, i like it.
10/21/2008 8:48:39 PM
^nice, what cam? They look nice and sharp. I'm still struggling to get really sharp pics. I dunno what I'm doing wrong, but mine seen less sharp than average. ha.Anyone play w/ Apple Aperture 2? I just got a mac and am playing w/ the 30 day trial. Its photo management and organizational features are pretty impressive. Using stacks and quick comparison shortcuts etc. I'm flying through hundreds of pics and easily rating, sorting, weeding, and managing them. about 1000x faster than i did w/o good software. There are lots of good tutorial videos online as well and they've helped a good bit in my raw conversions.

I have only the Nikon D40 kit 18-55 and i don't recall seeing any CA like that before. From what i gather from the folks at nikonians.ord is that the kit lense is fine. Nothing fantastic, but it also won't hold anyone back for awhile. fwiw i guess. Maybe yours is defective, kiwi? This guys gives is a solid performance review:http://www.bythom.com/1855lens.htm

I'm shooting N*E*R*D on Friday, can't fucking wait.I think I'm checking a 70-200 2.8 from my school's equipment room for it.SEXY.
10/22/2008 1:16:24 AM
god, I hate Bridge, but it's the only thing I have right now. Damn program keeps on crashing every 30 mins and boy does that program have some memory leak!
10/22/2008 2:42:22 AM
I've never really used any programs like that, I just use CS3, should I check them out? What is so great about them that would make them worth getting?I do mostly concert and some sports and other event photography.
10/22/2008 3:02:08 AM
Like I said, you'll want to stick with Photoshop for any remotely intensive editing, but Aperture is better than anything Adobe has to offer in terms of file management. Lightroom and Bridge are Adobe products, and they're not terrible if they come with a suite, but Aperture is better. You can also use Photoshop in conjunction with Aperture, and any edits you make in PS will show up live in your Aperture browser.
10/22/2008 7:44:54 AM
Also, I just realized I used my 25k post to talk about Aperture.
10/22/2008 7:45:34 AM
Anyone good at photoshop? Want to get rid of a car for me? I tried and it looks awful.
10/22/2008 9:41:04 PM
I just got my Nikon D3 from my husband, and have only taken a few pictures of the dogs, and then of a band, but i'm heading to Fiji in a couple of weeks and can't wait to test it there! So excited!
10/22/2008 9:48:18 PM
What an ugly fucking dress.
10/22/2008 9:54:03 PM
Personally, I like that dress....Its really cute
10/22/2008 9:55:49 PM
A personal favorite
10/22/2008 10:16:18 PM
Could have done this without that damn jacket though.

It was really freaking cold. Only time she had it off was during the ceremony. Here she's concentrating on her vows. Gotta work with what I'm given

10/22/2008 11:11:41 PM
Awesome pics, you must have had amazing seats
10/22/2008 11:19:28 PM
No seats, I was a working photographer so there was nothing b/w me and the band. It kinda sucks how I've gotten so spoiled being a photographer because no matter the event I go to, I always want to be closer now. Why pay high dollar for a 1st row seat when I can get paid for occupying .5 row seat
10/22/2008 11:28:06 PM
haha word, well then you were expected to get those shots. I bet your shutter speed was insane. aha
10/22/2008 11:32:18 PM
I'm not sure what "insane" is, but those were b/w 1/60th and 1/250th. EXIF data is intact if you want to look at it.

Hello world
10/22/2008 11:53:50 PM
couple from screwing around tonight
10/23/2008 10:35:07 PM
^I like that 2nd one.I just upgraded cameras today! I went from a Canon 10D to a Canon 20D, from old as dirt to just plain old, lol. Not exactly a Canon 5D Mark II, but fuck it, I'm saving for a house. On another note, if anyone's pondering their first DSLR, I'd suggest looking into buying used. You'll get a whole lot more camera for your dollar. You can probably find a Canon 10D, which has served me well for the past 5 years, for less than $200. (no, I'm not plugging for the sale of my old 10D's, they're not for sale).
10/23/2008 10:51:02 PM
I love my D40 for what's its opened up for me but it's definitely a beginners camera and I can't wait to upgrade!
10/23/2008 11:21:15 PM
I'll buy it off you, Kiwi.
10/23/2008 11:47:40 PM
How much?
10/23/2008 11:58:40 PM
what would you be selling it for?
10/24/2008 12:11:09 AM
Anyone shoot Olympus? I have a crazy good opportunity to pick up a E-510 with two decent lens on the cheap. I've been thinking about Olympus since they're so damn light--good for what I like to photograph. I've never actually held one of these so I'm curious how much smaller the Olympus system is compared to the Canon Rebel system.
10/24/2008 2:33:46 AM
Ok.. from looking at the NERD pix, I decided to post a few of mine from the Projekt Revolution concert in Charlotte - not taken with a DSLR, but close enough (Nikon P80), quality isnt too bad considering lightingthese were my best shots - I had only had the camera like 17 hrs and hadnt learned much about it, so I think I did pretty damn good - but I still want a DSLR[Edited on October 24, 2008 at 4:41 AM. Yeah, I don't see myself upgrading until, god forbid, mine breaks.
10/24/2008 10:56:54 AM
Well really my only complaint is the slow recharging time between flashes. So an external flash will be next on the list.
10/24/2008 11:29:00 AM
You actually use the on-camera flash?Oh... dear... no... that's your first problem.
10/24/2008 11:35:29 AM
Yeah,
10/24/2008 11:36:12 AM
Don't.SOMETIMES is could be an ok fill in bright sunlight, but overall they are pretty worthless.
10/24/2008 11:37:16 AM
4 aftermarket BP-511 batteries for Canon. Fits the 10D/20D/30D/40D/50D/5D/Original Digital Rebel.Free to whoever wants them. They hold a charge but they're crap, no lies.
