yeah i think there should be something like baseball, where you can go straight out of high school if you like, but otherwise you've got to stay in school for a few years before you can go into the draft.

basically a done deal after cousins, imo.

when a kid leaves a visit at one place and declares a different places his favorite, things don't look good for nc state.

Wall just got done saying he was gonna commit at the what's-his-name game in April.

I'm gonna guess that the guy on the internet message board who got a call from some people is not correct. Especially the memphis board that nobody uses.

^ I think the "whats-his-name" reference was intentional.

Just passing along info, we have folks on our message boards that know shit, and just because someone isn't announcing for a month, doesn't mean they don't already know where they are going to go.

I think it's pretty much understood that even if Hewitt leaves, Favors is still going to go to Ga Tech. He definitely picked the school because of location, not because of coach or team.

What you guys think about next years most likely team

PG-Javi/Mays/Degand
SG-Williams/Brown/Fergie
SF-Thomas/Horner/Wood
PF-Howell/Horner
C-Smith/Howell

Its a small but very athletic lineup... with the ACC most likely being weak next year, i think its a solid lineup even without wall/cousins/favors

^ i'm sorry, but unless Brown/Howell/Wood turn out to be even better than they are already supposed to be that is going to be another bottom feeder team right there. I'm hoping that Brown turns out to be one of those guys that comes along every once in a while that is just plain nasty. The kind of guy that has you saying, "I knew he was gonna be good, but THIS good?" But, we are NCState, so who am I kidding?

I'm no coach, but do you not think Brown might run the point some?
and Mays or Degand may slide over to sg some?
and Wood at sg, and Williams maybe getting some time at the sf?

(w/of cousins or favors, costner coming back would be a good thing)

^^I think he means places of consequence. ie, not TWW.

In reality, I think if the team performs poorly next year, then the 2010-11 season will be his last chance to turn it around. Then it will be the search for a new coach and all of the negatives that come with it. Which means we will continue to suck for at least another year or two after a new coach comes in. At least that's the common way of things unless you're loaded with talent, your coach is just that bad, and you bring in one of the best coaches in the country to replace him. We will probably never be loaded with talent, Sidney isn't that bad, and we probably won't be bringing in any great, proven coaches anytime soon.

Yeah, at this point Costner coming back isn't just good, it is absolutely needed.

^^^uglier

If by chance Costner comes back, it gives us a lot more post depth which would help... but then again Costner has disappeared so i dont know how much it would help, but he is needed

There most definitely will be a three guard lineup next year if we don't get another big man. Assuming Costner leaves, who is gonna give Horner, Howell, and Smith a rest if they are all playing at the same time? What if one gets injured? Now if Costner returns it won't be as big of an issue. We are basically replacing McCauley with Howell.

And don't forget Darryl Cato-Bishop may walk-on the team. He's 6'4, 250. Not really sure how that would work on the bball court though, maybe a Simon Harris type?

Well, now I'm gonna have nightmares about Horner being out of position AND physically abused... Imagine Horner trying to guard a 4 like Deon Thompson or Jeff Adrien for more than a cameo role. Scary.

We're gonna have zero quality depth again next year unfortunately...

He did pretty well when forced into playing PF his freshman year.

Quote :

Well I was considering him more playing the 2 for his size and being able to guard other 2s in the league. Also I think having two guards with experience handling the ball playing at the same time is a very good thing, especially for us. I remember in one game they ended up on the court at the same time for a few minutes and we actually did pretty well for that short time period. Since Javi doesn't have the size to play the 2 but has a better shot you can effectively run plays where the ball is in Degand's hands but ends up in Javi's hands for a 3 as the first option or driving and seeing what happens as the second option.

Well its going to get ugly. We will be worse next year unless our recruits just take over.....

^^Yeah Horner being our starting PF is scary. He presents a good matchup problem on offense with his outside shot but let's be serious he can't guard Trevor Booker, James Johnson, Ed Davis, etc.

James Johnson, and perhaps even Booker, will be gone to the NBA. A lot of people don't match up well with Ed Davis and UNC's 70 other PFs.

The ACC should be pretty weak next year. I mean it will still be strong, but nowhere near as experienced as this year. Certain teams have the potential to make a big leap standings wise next year.

If Johnson, Teague, and Aminu all come back and they only lose Harvey Hale....they should be locks to win the ACC. They have too much talent.

farnold playing the 2 would be an absolute joke and had better not happen.

if that's what this team comes to, then you know all hope is lost.

I'm not saying he plays the 2 as it is traditionally played. I'm saying that we could run two PGs essentially by having a rotation of Javi, Farnold, Julius, and Lorenzo, and move CJ and the others to the 3 essentially since they are taller/longer. Running a 3 guard system would help keep our forwards fresh, since we'll be hurting for depth there if Brandon leaves.

Degand can be valuable if he either learns how to shoot or learns how to defend. Ball handling and passing are a lost cause, at this point.

Even the most unathletic loser can find playing time if he can hit an open shot 80% of the time.

I used to support the whole Degand-at-SG idea ... but now I support the Degand-benched-forever idea. I'm rooting for the guy -- i know it's got to suck to spend 90% of your college career injured or recovering. But he just doesn't bring anything positive at this point.

ACC will be awesome next year too. We've really only had 1 down year in the past 10 or so.

Trevor Booker will stay in college because his brother Devin Booker will be playing at Clemson as well, so they will play together. Devin is supposedly better than Trevor and was the #1 recruit in SC high school hoops.

Get ready to hear "Book Brothers" and "Bookends" next year haha.

Also, Clemson graduates Raymond Sykes (thank god) and replaces him with 5 star McD AA Milton Jennings.

There will be some great fresh talent in the ACC next year that will help the ACC solidify itself in the next 4 years as the best conference in the universe.

on a side note,,, the acc will not be weak next year.... that was a bad statement

Ok well maybe I should have stated that the ACC will be weaker when you compare it to this year. You have to agree on that one. It's usually always one of the top two conferences in the nation and has been the RPI's top rated conference 4 out of the past 5 years (ACC coaches commercial ).

I don't feel comfortable with Horner playing down low whatsoever. His best game is on the 3 point line, anywhere in the free throw circle, or cutting to the basket for a nice layup. He does not have the weight, muscles, or post moves to be able to play with the ACC's best down low.

Coach should just tell him to move without the bball and hit the open shots when he gets a good look.

^^ not just UNC

Seniors lost this year

BC
Tyrese Rice - I don't see how they replace him next year

CU
K.C. Rivers

DU
David McClure
Greg Paulus - not much loss for Duke with these two graduating, but if Henderson leaves then it'll hurt pretty bad, they will still be pretty good next year though

FSU
Toney Douglas - huge loss for them, but they bring in 5* SG Michael Snaer who could take his place

GT
Alade Aminu
Lewis Clinch - they Jackets should be much better next year especially with the incoming recruiting class, but they still have one deficiency, they have Paul Hewitt as their coach

UMD
Dave Neal - they should be better unless Vasquez leaves

UM
Brian Asbury
Jimmy Graham
Lance Hurdle
Jack McClinton - Miami will be hit pretty hard next year; their recruiting class is pretty good, but I don't expect those players can come in and replace right away what the guys above have contributed over the past two seasons

UNC
Danny Green
Bobby Frasor
Tyler Hansbrough - if they don't lose Lawson then I expect them to still be able to have a year similar to this one; they have a monster recruiting class coming in and Ginyard will make his return

NCSU
McCauley
Fells - if Costner doesn't leave then we could surprise a lot of people next year; although we lose some very veteran players, our team will end up being more athletic overall, especially with the influx of Brown and Howell to the rotation; Javi's improvement is encouraging, but we may still suck

UVA
Mamadi Diane
Tunji Sororye - they may continue to suck next year, but should improve their conference win total by 1 game; their incoming class isn't bad, but isn't great either; Landesberg will have to do everything again

VT
Cheick Diakite
A.D. Vassallo - losing their leader in Vassallo kind of reminds me of the year after we lost Hodge; who is going to step up and be the vocal leader of this team; Delaney looks like he'll have to be the one to step up; their incoming class is sub-par in my opinion

WF
Harvey Hale - let's be honest, there is no team in this league whose fortunes next year rely on who comes back as much as the Deacs; if Johnson, Aminu, and Teague come back then they are probably battling Carolina for the top spot and will get plenty of votes to win the conference

Which brings into the discussion and speculation of which players will leave early. All three of the Wake players could leave early, Lawson and Ellington could go, Henderson could go in the Top 10, Costner could go play in Europe, etc.

While I don't think the ACC will be terrible (when was the last time that happened, 1999 maybe) I don't see it being as good as this year. Besides being a very experienced group, many of them were great players, some even spectacular.
