My last router had tomato.. Thanks!

my Linksys WRT-54GS did better with Tomato compared to DD-WRT when connecting to XBL. Most everything else was the same between the two though. Now I'm using a Asus RT-66U with just the stock firmware and have no issues with it. I still have my Linksys though.

Hoping to build a new gaming rig in the next month or so. Haven't had a PC aside from my HTPC in a long time. What should I be looking for? It seems like Intel>>AMD. What about Geforce vs. Radeon? What else do I need to know? HALP

^I, too, am planning on building a new computer sometime in the next few weeks. Already have all my parts figured out but does anyone have any recommendations on speakers or a monitor?
4/23/2013 10:30:34 AM
Just pulled the trigger on the components. Anybody have a recommendation for a keyboard and mouse for gaming? I'm not tryna spend $texas on a damn mouse, and I prefer wireless to wired (which seems to be a no-no for people who think games r serious business). Any recs?

for ~$100 you could get a 3TB drive

I really really like my Razer Mamba. The 2nd edition one is much better than the first. Great mouse. When you plug it in it looks like a nice wired mouse.

so I finally got around to installing my arctic accelero xtreme 3 on my 6950 flashed to 6970. at 100% it's quieter than 40% of the stock cooler at about 10*C cooler at idle. ~20* cooler at load. I highly recommend if you're using a 69xx/79xx family radeon with a reference cooler.

What is the best water cooling option for 60-80 dollars? I was looking at the Corsair H60 and H80i.
6/2/2013 3:36:43 PM
For what CPU? I'd just pick up one of these:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018If you're only going to be spending $70-80 then you can get similar performance from some of the nicer air coolers.

FX-8350What about the Cooler Master fans, are as good as the one that you posted? In the description, its says 'backplate required'' for AMD chips - what is the 'backplate'?So this fan is pretty quiet? I want to OC my chip to about 4.8Ghz (maybe 4.9Ghz) and this would do it I think, I am running a modest OC now at 4.4Ghz with stock cooling, but the fan is loud LOL.
6/2/2013 10:32:44 PM
the amount of money spent to better cool an AMD FX is better spent on a better chip. I have an FX8150 and it's good for what I bought it for (lots of parallel threads for concurrent virtual machines) but overclocking so you don't get all the trick power savings makes the TCO greater than that of buying a better intel chip over a year or so.

if you're looking for a mechanical keyboard the razer blackwidow is a fantastic keyboard. if you dont' get a shit about mechanical the g15 (etc+) offer a shit load of utility, and the microsoft sidewinder keyboard series is solid as wellas for the speaker question I just recently (~7months) purchased :http://www.amazon.com/Genius-GX-Gaming-SW-G2-1-3000-Devices/dp/B007TSRCZM/ref=pd_sim_e_1and frankly they're fantastic. the bass is impressive, the sound quality is solid for the price range. I could tell a difference between these and the "lower" (the red ones) model but both sounded quite good. Extremely happy with them.Genius is a newer company so they're trying to sell their product for a little less to get word of mouth going or so I hear.]

^^ Look I did not come here for that. I asked about a water cooling and that's all I want to discuss.
6/3/2013 12:03:39 PM
The all in one water coolers kinda depend on what case you get because I would look up what fits you specific case and recommend the biggest one that fits. Or recommend modding the case to a dual 140mm unit will fit. The smaller ones are great for stock settings but start overclocking and their limit is hit very early.hope this fits its a really good pricehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181038[Edited on June 3, 2013 at 2:43 PM. i assume that'll fit in http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112239or i suppose i could always mount it outside the case given the watercooling holes, that seems like a bitch tho]

Can't wait to upgrade to the Haswell this summer. My Bloomfield is starting to feel a bit outdated.
6/6/2013 3:28:12 PM
I can't decide. My bloomfield (950) runs pretty solid at 4.0ghz. If I do any upgrading it'll be from my 580 to a 780 or something. I just can't warranty the price to upgrade my processor now.
6/6/2013 3:38:23 PM
I donno if that would be worth it for you. The new 700's aren't really that exciting to me and the 780 price point at $650 is hard to stomach. The 580 isn't bad, I just wonder if it would just best serve you to find a 2nd 580 for cheap. Not sure how cheap 580's are right now, but they sure as hell are a lot cheaper than a single 780. Even though the gk110 780 titan chip sounds like a badass idea, even a single 680 (or the 770 since its just a rehashed 680 for $400) would still be more than enough power every game out right now.I have no plans to upgrade my 570's anytime soon, my biggest draw back is the 1.25GB frame buffers are showing their limitations on "non-optimized" modern game engines. If I can find some used/cheap water blocks in the near future, I would totally liquid cool my entire rig, but as it stands, that would cost well over $900 in msrp parts to do it right. At that point, I would say fuck it and grab a single highend gpu card before that happens for cheaper.
6/6/2013 5:56:24 PM
The 780's are getting almost twice (sometimes more) the performance of 580's. Just look at some of the reviews. Even if I could find a second 580 I'd have to upgrade my PSU and still wouldn't get the performance of a single nicer 780. Even at 1080p I can't max out most newer games at the FPS I want (100+) with my 3GB overclocked 580. I would love the performance of a 780. I just don't know how long I want to wait for Maxwell. We'll see. I'm satisfied right now and truthfully I haven't had time to game much as I've been traveling so much for work and I'm never home on the weekends.
6/6/2013 6:14:12 PM
i want the new sony vaio with haswell. 25 hours with extended battery and the intel5000hd with on-die memory should offer gts640/650 performance, which is fine since i'm sure the res will be shitty like 1360x768[Edited on June 6, 2013 at 6:52 PM. Reason : .]
6/6/2013 6:51:45 PM
Thought you had like a 750+ watt psu to support SLI if you wanted to? The performance of the 780's are top notch, but the real question: is the small performance increase of the 780 over the 770/680's make the $250 price premium worth wild? If anything, I'd rather spend $400 for one 770 or even the $800 for SLI 770's to get a better price per performance ratio. But like you, I've been pretty happy with my triple 570's and have no need to upgrade to the 700's or even the 800's a year later. I'm pretty sure by the time I need to upgrade is when Maxwell would come out and by then, I should have enough disposable income to warrant spending $$$ on crazy shit... well more than usual.

Where is the cheapest place to get a copy of Windows 7/8. Building a new computer for my sister, and she doesn't need anything special so the basic home versions will be fine. I know I can get Windows 8 home for ~$90 but just curious if anyone knows of anything cheaper.

Make sure you read through the Slickdeals thread to understand the rebates since it starts to get tricky with a multi-deal like that. If you have a credit card with cash back rewards like discover, you get almost $10 back since it nets you the reward on the full MSRP price.

cool site, nice layout and good UI. My only complaint... Monstrous build isn't very monstrous, shit putting down that kind of cash, should at the very least spend the 1500 for proper two loop liquid cool in a custom case. And seriously? Don't even give the option for 64GB of ram with an i7 EE? If you are going to plop 1k on the cpu, should go balls deep in debt.

Hey guys, thinking of building a desktop (haven't done this before), and was looking for some suggestions. I wanna be in the $300-400 range, and I think I'm going to go with the AMD FX-6300. I don't plan to really game at all, just do school and work stuff (programming and simulation, etc.), but I want to have room to upgrade if I want to in the future. Any suggestions on components? Also, I'm open to used components (except motherboard and processor), so if you got anything you want to sell, let me know. Thanks!

^Not sure if you're into reddit but I would definitely recommend posting on http://reddit.com/r/buildapcforme I used it a few months ago when I did a new build in the ~$400 range and got a lot of good recommendations.
