Would you not complain about that if your ears were exposed to it?I'm sorry but being in the same room as that guy singing along to Highly Suspicious more closely resembles Hell than anything Dante ever masturbated to.[Edited on November 23, 2011 at 10:33 PM. Reason : J]

I'm sure it sucked, but you take your complaining to this Asperger-esque level of comprehensiveness. It's like no mention of a band/artist/festival/venue you dislike can be allowed to pass without a response.

Internet. Serious business.
11/23/2011 11:05:02 PM
I'll be at Future Islands. I haven't seen them live--expectations are high.
11/23/2011 11:08:56 PM
It's really fun. You'll dance around a lot and generally not care about anything else. I know this sounds kind of positive, so I'll say that American aquarium sucks so many balls that they're not allowed at fast food restaurant playworlds anymore...

Had to go through this thread to see what I missed. Gonna comment on a few things:
11/24/2011 3:29:44 PM
Numero show was pretty awesome. Backing band had a really cute chubby girl who I was all about. The Notations obviously had some county fair circuit kinda stuff to their act, but their voices were good. Syl Johnson was wasted, but still brought it when he felt like it. Renaldo Domino, on the other hand, was as good as he's probably ever been. Great voice, great moves, great belt buckle. Renaldo and the merch booth were worth the price of admission. Also, Cellar Seas. YEAH!
11/24/2011 3:33:32 PM
i didn't think anyone really hated American Aquarium until i saw Mr Scrumples post here.i figured they were too irrelevant to hate, lol. (but, i agree, they suck balls)
11/24/2011 3:45:01 PM
There's not much I truly hate, but I do find them irritating, sure. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/americanaquarium/american-aquarium-the-making-of-burnflickerdie

I was in the same building with Mr Scrumples a bunch this year... and most recently at the Bombadil show--and now at Future Islands on Sunday.AN ENIGMA WRAPPED IN AN ENIGMA.

Holy shit, Atlas Sound is coming to Motorco on the 14th.
11/29/2011 10:34:13 PM
So, I'm pretty excited about Atlas Sound. Though I saw the act at Moogfest, it was in the wrong setting. This show is on a Wednesday at a venue I can walk to from my current location, and as long as Motorco can somehow manage decent sound for this (it's exceptionally bad; ask anyone), it should be a really good time. Motorco is slowly getting there, but another complaint people had was the fact they NEVER advertise their shows. Did anyone know about this? I doubt it. Also this Saturday they have live band karaoke. That's in the cards I think...
11/30/2011 11:39:15 AM
No one knows about it because it was announced yesterday. They'll always struggle to get good sound in there, because half the fucking room is glass. ]
11/30/2011 12:59:55 PM
1. There has been many o' event they haven't even bothered to promote through outside sources, let alone announce on their Twitter feed, etc.2. The sound has less to do with the space, and more to do with the equipment and who works the boards. Went to a friend's film screening there about a month or so ago and the entire organization with setup and so forth was nonexistent and a nightmare. They've blown speakers on several occasions, according to some folks I know, and all everybody does is complain about how bad they are at making necessary changes to give them any sort of competitive edge as a venue to attract touring acts. The only thing I've ever known to sell out there is something called "Monty Story Slam" or something, and I'm still confused as to what that even is. ...Also, though I know the blog is more or less a joke, trianglemusic.blogspot.com hasn't said a damned word about this show (just another countless example as to how biased and stupid the people who run that blog are, honestly). This is the biggest name Motorco's had booked there like ever, it feels like. I'm just saying that nobody cares, not even the venue when it comes to what you think would be simple things to stay alive in the music venue business. Firing Tamplin or whatever the situation was there is a good start, but hell, the last time I was there, the credit card machine was even broken...Also, I'll let you know the next time they book the Ed Schrader Music Beat, in case they forget to announce it.
11/30/2011 1:12:13 PM
Why get worked up about the fact that one music blog sucks? Use a better one. I recommend trianglerock.com. Ross works at XDU, so he's good about posting stuff for Duke Coffeehouse shows.
11/30/2011 1:39:12 PM
I didn't know it existed. Do you know the people that run Triangle Music?
11/30/2011 1:42:15 PM
Nah.Fun shows this week:Music Tapes (Julian Koster from Neutral Milk Hotel) at Tir na Nog on Thursday (FREE)Valient Thorr at Kings on FridayBorrowed Beams of Light at Slim's on Friday...and my band is opening for Schooner at Slim's on Sunday. I'll have fun at that one, but whether or not it's a "fun show" is debatable.
11/30/2011 2:59:53 PM
Cotton Jones at Duke Coffeehouse Friday. I will be there.
11/30/2011 3:07:19 PM
Gray Young + White Cascade @ Slim's Saturday
11/30/2011 3:59:50 PM
dj/rupture is playing at Duke Coffeehouse? who knew
11/30/2011 4:59:58 PM
FWIW, I've seen Music Tapes several times and have enjoyed them, but their set opening for OTC a few months ago was incredibly taxing (unless you're into sets broken up by 15 minute long joke-story-magic-trick performance pieces).
11/30/2011 5:03:13 PM
looks like i'll be paying my first visit to motorco.
11/30/2011 5:12:05 PM
^^...and if you are into that, you should go see the Flaming Lips immediately (with lots of COME ON MOTHERFUCKERS COME ON COME ON COME ON in lieux of the magic tricks).[Edited on November 30, 2011 at 5:36 PM. Reason : st]

My friend who works for Cage the Elephant just offered me a backstage pass for the 96x concert in Norfolk tonight (Bush/Cake/Cage the Elephant/Foster the People/etc.). I just have so much fucking work due tomorrow that I haven't started and don't feel like making the 3 hour drive by myself. Still may do it, though. The timing that these opportunities always seem to happen [Edited on December 1, 2011 at 11:37 AM. Reason : -]

Cass McCombs at Haw River Ballroom Jan 20. Pretty sure I'm going to go. White Rabbits/War on Drugs at Lincoln Theatre in March. Pretty sure I'm going to go.Neon Indian/Purity Ring at the Cradle in March - would go, but probably not. Seen that dude twice in the last year.Crooked Fingers/Mt. Moriah at Kings Jan 6. Probably will be there. The Kings staff is so lovely, it's so lovely to be there. They should give themselves a round of applause. Haven't been in quite awhile.
