I played some more 300 NL at Hawaiin gardens today.I was holding [9, 10] suitedGuy next to me was holding [A, 9]Across from me a guy had [Q, Q]flop was [9, 6, 6]moderate betting. QQ should have taken it down then but didn't.Turn was a [9]Checking...River was a [10]QQ bets $30. I raise to $100. Guy next to me pushes all-in. Of course I call.He was pissed.I'm up a couple grand over the last 2 weeks. The cash tables are more fun to me than the tournaments. Maybe thats cause I haven't had much luck in the few tournaments I've played in.

looking for some input from you mtt vets. I have been feeling pretty good about my game lately, but I'm still looking to fill in some thin spots. So it's deep into a tourney, about 42 left out of 550 or so. I have around 14k, which is about the average, and blinds are 500/1000. I'm sitting in about 8th position and 5th puts in a raise to 4k (he also has about 14k) I have suited big slick. I didn't have a solid read on this guy since I just recently switched tables, but from what I could gather so far he seemed more or less solid. My dilemma is whether to re-raise all in or simply call. I figure it is highly likely he has a pair lower than kings, but it is possible he has a-q, of course it's also possible he has kings or aces. With smaller blinds I think I would just call here, trying to keep volatility low since I feel pretty good about how I stack up against the other players (try not to take coin flips if I don't have to), but the problem here is calling only leaves me with 10k, and with blinds at 500/1000, i'm worried i might not get a hand this big for some time. Folding seems way to weak (which it is) so i re-raise, figuring I need to get some chips to make a push for the win anyway. If I called I would've folded to an all-in post flop without hitting a king or ace. Long question short: can you reasonably smooth call in this spot, or is my stack too low relative to blinds for a mere call? I was pretty sure I'd get a call with my re-raise, whether I was ahead or not.
2/2/2006 5:54:39 PM
now thats a nice suckout
2/2/2006 5:55:32 PM
You should push all in. It's stupid just to call.
2/2/2006 6:05:44 PM
^^^you dont want to take a flop there, all-in is the right playnamely because of this: if you take a flop and whiff, he will likely go all in and you have no further information about his hand. he could have a legitamite pair or it could be a continuation bet with AQ or AJ(which is an appealing move seeing as how he has 10k left and theres like 9k in the pot)that is a nightmare scenario, better to just push preflop cause you dont mind racing with your chips and there's a better chance that you have him dominated than vice versa. if you each had 30k or something then calling would be a viable option.[Edited on February 2, 2006 at 6:06 PM. There any home games going on tonight?
2/2/2006 6:07:06 PM
^^cool, that's kinda the way I saw it, i just wanted to double check with some people. i mean i pushed, he had qq and i lost, but I just didn't really feel comfortable with the whole situation. I think it's just that I prefer to play after the flop if I can, but when the blinds get that hi you can't really do a whole lot.[Edited on February 2, 2006 at 6:09 PM. Reason : dsfsa]
2/2/2006 6:09:11 PM
yea i mean the reraise is just as bad as a call unless its all in1. you are going to have to call if he puts you all in anyways2. with just the x amount reraise and not the all-in, you likely lose the chance of having your opponent fold, i mean if you just min raise him or 3x raise, you havent done much to prevent him from calling.and anyways you are looking to win it, not to just place like 23rd and win like the 1% of the pool. So you have to do it.you have an M of (.9*(1500/150)) 9 anyways, which means its gotta be an all in with a big hand, there is no room for post flop play.
2/2/2006 6:22:13 PM

hahaa i played at the taj todaythey have a 300+40 tourney at 6pmi made it about 2.5 hrs in and witnessed some of the worst tournament poker i have ever seen. I wont talk about the hand i went out on yet because if i talk about it i will get mad. it was ridiculous.anyways, i went to the $ 2/5 nl tables and made my tourney money back + 1400, so all in all not a bad outing. I swear each time i go, the players are worse. His name is "all-in" gwynn. he's a black guy in is prolly early 30's who has played around ac for a long time. like he knew ivey when ivey was playing underage at the trop etc. cool guy. he is recognizable b.c he has a big scar on his face that looks like someone slashed him from his eye down to his mouth. I am prolly going back next sunday b/c he's playing in the curcuit event at Harrahs and he told me the cash games at the side tables will be packed with easy money.

Some of you know exactly what goes on here.Ok, I had been playing really bad all night, wayyyy too passive, but also wasnt getting any hands at all, so garbage like 57o was becomming playable. It was getitng late, and I was stick about 100 after working back from being stuck like 3. For the sake of this arguement, Ive got everyone covered with about 300, I dont have Tommy covered, but he dropped out of the hand early.Pick up As Ah UTG.to mix it up a bit, i just limp from the 7 seat.Tommy, three seats to my left, obliges me and raises to $12 in the 10 seat. For the arguement, this was about his standard raise. could be anyting from 22-AA, Ax+, JT-KQ. Romi cold-calls the $12 from seat 1. Ive played with him twice this week now, after having not played with him in probably 2-3 years. I just know how he used to play, but nothing that id consider serious enough to hold true. His call means absolutely anything to me. Elvie cold calls behind in the 2. jonnySim on the button in seat 4 bumps it up all in $75 more. man, im getting wicked action on this hand, im getting giddy, but i hope that that raise will knock out everyone else, so i go in to this hand with a bunch of dead money in the pot with aces. nice position to be in. so its $85 to me. For some reason I still dont know, i just flat call the full bet. I only have about another $80 behind, but only Tommy has me covered by a few hundred. IF Romi calls, he will be all in, and if Elvie calls, he'll have about $20 left behind. I think my plan was to push all in on any flop if Tommy comes along.Well, he doesnt come along. He seems utterly confused about the way the hand went down, and the shit storm his initial raise started. Or what he thinks he started. I really started it. ahahRomi calls all in, for like $3-5 less than the bet was. Elvie just flat calls the $75 raise and leaves about $20 behind (????????).ok, for way action with everyone putting in ~$87 into the pot with the $3 dead from the blinds. So a $351 pot with no more real decisions. I push in blind to force Elvie to commit his stack, no matter what the flop is.Flop comes: 2c 8c ThElvie calls, we are all in. I flip up my cards, no one else does yet. i found that odd.Turn like a random red middling card.river is the: KcjonnySim now tables KK for a set of kings. I dont see this however b/c elvie is standing up excited and tables Ac7c, for the nut flush. "NUT FLUSH!!!111" Romi gets up and leaves and never shows. I really have absolutely no feeling as to what he had. When I asked him about why he called the huge reriase with me calling behind screaming aces, he said "What?? I had the pot odds to call there!"The only logic i can find in this is that there are four suits, hes getting ~3:1 on a call, so threfore the odds for a flush comming out are 3:1? i guess?I have no idea. After the hand, Tommy told me he had AJ, so i guess all my aces were gone, but it wouldnt have mattered. Lets just say id be less confused if it was heads up between me and jonnySim and he set up the kings. For the arguement of things, lets say Romi had QQ. quite frankly, I dont know what else hed go all in with after an all in and a call infront of him. That or maybe something creative like a suited 78 thinking he had a shitton of live cards if all the high cards were in our hands, and was looking for a gamble to build a nice stack to swing around.pokenum -h as ah - ks kd - ac 7c - qh qs Holdem Hi: 1086008 enumerated boardscards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EVAs Ah 588356 54.18 486378 44.79 11274 1.04 0.546Ks Kd 200919 18.50 882045 81.22 3044 0.28 0.186Ac 7c 120600 11.10 954134 87.86 11274 1.04 0.116Qs Qh 164859 15.18 918105 84.54 3044 0.28 0.153pokenum -h as ah - ks kd - ac 7c - 7s 8s Holdem Hi: 1086008 enumerated boardscards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EVAs Ah 589895 54.32 485452 44.70 10661 0.98 0.548Ks Kd 196244 18.07 888100 81.78 1664 0.15 0.181Ac 7c 88455 8.14 967548 89.09 30005 2.76 0.0958s 7s 181409 16.70 883591 81.36 21008 1.93 0.176Four-way all ins are fuckig nerve wrecking. was this at pkr?i hear tommy is down pretty bad in the past month and a halfi cant wait to come back to play against some decent playersi cant stand this infinite amount of casino donksits great when there are 4-5 at a table who dont know what they are doingbut when its you and 8 morons it sucks.last night i raised utg with KK at the 2/5 table my very first hand to 30, not knowing the table chemistry. I got 7 callers whose stacks ranged from 100-250. I of course bought in for the max 500. the flop was Q 10 5. i checked, the dude directly to my left went all in. 1 other called all-in. I am like fuck, i actually think about it, but then i call. the guy to my left has Q8, the caller has J 10.I was like you gotta be fucking kidding me. turn 3 river 3. Some dude that had called the 30 then says dammit! I knew i shouldnt have folded my K3. and someone else who called said they mucked A3.i dont know if i like this shit or not[Edited on February 5, 2006 at 12:41 PM. Reason : .]

the hands were never heads upif there was a raise, at least 2 people always calledso i just started making the 2/5 table a 5/10 tableevery raise I made from like 10 min in afterwards was $50

^^ the issue is, with good players, I should think, with them its an instant call, no hesitation. There is no thinking "they couldnt have called the raise with that"

anyone care to offer advice on my AK preflop? Instead of just saying I played it wrong. Like options and why each would be good or bad...
