Ranchers, farmers fear eco-terrorists after EPA releases private infohttp://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/01/17/ranchers-farmers-fear-eco-terrorists-after-epa-releases-private-info/What I want to know is where was Faux News, et. al when Civitas overtly published pictures and personal information of Moral Monday protesters? If they are actually concerned about harassment coming to those on whatever lists then surely it goes both ways, right? I would propose that one of these supposed "eco-terrorist" groups make a cute game matching a subject of whatever list this is with their information or some such...
1/17/2014 7:42:31 PM
yeah, an assault on our food supply is a laughing matter.
1/17/2014 11:06:29 PM
To be fair, many of these eco-groups have a history of going out and harassing people with whom they disagree. Peta throws animal blood on people, Greenpeace routinely puts vessels in shipping channels in danger by running small craft in and out of the main channel, hundreds of feet away from large vessels. You don't have to look too hard on google to find many similar stories. Sure, it'd be nice if a news organization *giggles* would be consistent... But yeah, Fox suxLikewise, fuck, the EPA handed out private medical histories to people? In what world is that acceptable?Honest question, though, was Civitas releasing addresses of the protestors, or just public records information from their arrests?]
1/17/2014 11:07:45 PM
^ does it matter? It's obvious their intent was to intimidate. Just like that ny newspaper that published public info on gun owners. Their goal was to demonize and intimidate ordinary people, which is not okay as a political tactic
1/18/2014 11:58:04 AM
I think it does matter. Giving names, addresses, and hell, GPS locations, to a group of people who have been known to commit arson seems a bit worse than simply compiling a dataset of already-available public information and aggregating it in one location. D-bag thing to do? Probably, as I'm already not a huge fan of things like The Slammer... But on the same level as giving groups with known violent and harassing tendencies GPS coordinates to the houses of someone they don't like, along with personal medical information?
1/18/2014 4:14:12 PM
This is worse than Civitas, but also entirely different.how can anyone say releasing u redacted medical history is okay? The security angle is overblown though, more of a privacy issue.
1/18/2014 4:56:47 PM
The EPA thing seems like an accident, albeit damaging and egregious. The other incidences are malice. There's a difference.
1/18/2014 5:39:55 PM
I'll admit that it's likely a false equivalency, but it was the first thing that came to mind. I just found it intriguing that Faux News immediately jumped to "eco-terrorism", yet were mum about groups like Civitas openly engaging in intimidation tactics when it came to the release of information.
1/18/2014 5:50:12 PM
Yawn.Facts mean nothing on the internet. If you can simply make a giant jpg or gif, you don't even have to write a story. People just skip to the comments and continue the narrative established. You can't rebut once it sweeps through for 4-12 hours, the narrative has been en/rein-forced. Nobody who spreads the narrative in their personal feed is going to retract. Now false is true. And only made more true by repetition. The good news is that it is truly the free market working. People buy guns or organic kale based on fear or comfort (and sometimes both at the same time). The economy benefits. And by economy I mean zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.................

How is Civitas "engaging in intimidation tactics" by posting already publicly available information?^ because none of those groups have any crossover with or ties to other groups that have done such things, right? I agree, it's a bit of fearmongering on the part of Fox News, but it's not entirely wrong, either. I don't think the EPA released that stuff maliciously; I just think they didn't vet it as hard as they should have, because they were giving it to groups they liked anyway.

Fox News is by far the most trusted news source among Americans and especially Republicans. It's also the least trusted, especially by Democrats. Democrats also have more diverse favorability when it comes to news channels. http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2014/01/fox-news-once-again-most-and-least-trusted-name-in-news.html

are you sure you're a teacher? You realize 1) that chart only goes to 2011 2) the idea that Obama's polices have been discouraging people from working is absurd and patently false, but Fox News is pushing this ideaSMH and the cycle of ignorance and misinformation.

^What you posted isn't "news." That's an editorial from a guy who is a member of a right-wing think-tank. He's paid to write things people like you want to hear. Read the actual CBO report or find an assessment that isn't so obviously biased.

spin it however you want, but obamacare is predicted to directly result in ~2.5 million less jobs. Yes, i've read the pertinent parts of the actual report.

Fox Freaks Out Over CVS Ending Sales Of Tobaccohttp://mediamatters.org/blog/2014/02/05/fox-freaks-out-over-cvs-ending-sales-of-tobacco/197947

did you even watch the video? nobody freaked out and she never implied it was illegal not to sell them.
2/7/2014 8:43:25 AM
Two states legalize pot and the WH is ok with that. The WH thinks it is wonderful that CVS stops carrying cancer sticks.
2/7/2014 8:48:15 AM
...and? it's not like tobacco was criminalized.
2/7/2014 9:21:08 AM
2/7/2014 9:21:16 AM
Just two very opposing viewpoints in my humble opinion.
2/7/2014 9:53:17 AM
Being ok with the legalization of a plant is a completely opposing viewpoint from being ok with a particular business deciding not to sell something? So you think the government should tell CVS they have to sell cigarettes? Or at least let them know that they're very disapointed in their decision not to sell cigarettes? And did the WH actually make a statement about CVS's decision?
2/7/2014 9:59:26 AM
Apparently supporting the freedom, of individuals and companies, is a trait of dirty liberals.
2/7/2014 11:37:37 AM
Yeah, I have a hard time understanding why a conservative would feel that way (Wants the government to infringe on individuals' rights to smoke/consume want they want, and wants the government to infringe on companies' rights to choose what they want to sell in their store)

they're going to need to stop selling soft drinks and high fat/salt/sugar snacks and candy too.... although it's obvious that a can of coke or a candy bar isn't as harmful as a pack of cigarettes.
