^^^gotcha, thanks for the clarification

O WE GOTS DAT 3.0
3/18/2009 7:06:47 AM
for those of you considering downloading this off of a torrent site:you should know beforehand that your phone's UUID has to be registered in a valid developer account before iTunes will let you activate the phone. if it's not, you'll get a message telling you so when you first plug your phone in to your computer.there's also a baseband update with 3.0 that gets flashed. that means that you can't downgrade to 2.2.1 after you flash this...so you're either going to have to live with a bricked phone (iBrick?) until summer, find a really good friend that's willing to add your UUID to their account, or...pay the $99 to apple to a personal ADC account (which would have been easier in the first place, heh).jus' sayin.]
3/18/2009 10:51:36 AM
So does this mean no 2.3, and we'll have to wait until the summer for 3.0?
3/18/2009 11:16:21 AM
yup, unless you do one of the things i said.]
3/18/2009 11:17:33 AM
Yeah, not worth bricking my phone or having a phone full of bugs. its too important. You should see all the threads on macrumors.com where people bricked their phones, and didnt realize the consequences of upgrading to 3.0. They even have a guy there offering to put people's phones on his developer list.
3/18/2009 11:25:27 AM
heh, yeah, apple got smart and started pwning people it's really really stable, i only put it on my dev phone at first but ended up flashing my personal phone as well, i haven't had it crash once and i don't see anything significant in the error console.
3/18/2009 11:55:44 AM
you people would.

I did notice a bug with the contacts. a lot of them are listed under # instead of the first letter of their first or last name. So the side letter shortcut nav doesn't really work that well.which also means that spotlight doesn't work as well with contacts because of it.
3/18/2009 2:18:27 PM
Wow, so Apple intentionally crippled the Bluetooth in the iPod Touch, and will now charge to unlock it in the next OS update ... that's insane.http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=14611
3/18/2009 2:32:19 PM
that's pretty fucked upbut i'm sure a hack will be out soon enough
3/18/2009 2:34:52 PM
cool
3/18/2009 5:30:46 PM
^^^ I doubt it was "intentional" in the sense you're thinking. And people bitch about the same things when Apple puts out an iPhone OS update.Apple claims it's because of the Sarbanes-Oxley act.
3/18/2009 5:35:43 PM
^^coool as hell. big brother is waaatching you
3/18/2009 5:56:16 PM
^^ yeah - i mean, if they hadn't taken the time to build bluetooth support into the OS yet, then what do you want them to do? They did put a bluetooth chip into the phone, obviously knowing that in the future there would be a software update to support it, but at the time, they clearly did not have the features fully completed. What, would you rather them just leave the bluetooth chip out completely and come out with a new iPod Touch with the chip?
3/18/2009 6:00:14 PM
So it's only the Touch 2G that has the built-in Bluetooth? That blows.
3/18/2009 6:50:58 PM
iTunes store working for any/everybody else?? Trying to activate this thing after just going to 3.0 and I can't access the f'in iTunes store
3/18/2009 8:43:57 PM
workin fine for me...
3/18/2009 8:53:46 PM
god dammit. isn't working on any of 3 computers in this housei might just have a useless iphone until tomorrow when i get to work
3/18/2009 8:56:13 PM
K Got that fixed. F'in iphoneModem app was messing things up.Same problem though. Still getting the "we unable to complete your activation". I'm logged into the account I used to pay for the development account last night so I'm not sure what the problem is. Is there any kind of waiting period between when you buy it and are actually allowed access? I read 24 hours somewhere (got access around 1am) so I'm hoping that that's the problem.Any other ideas?
3/18/2009 9:48:51 PM
did you register your phone's UUID in your developer account in the portal?http://developer.apple.com/iphone/my/devices/index.actionto get the UUID: plug in, go to itunes, click once on the Serial Number field data, it should magically turn into the UUID, you can copy/paste it even though it doesn't look like you can.]
3/18/2009 9:58:09 PM
3/18/2009 10:01:01 PM
well yeah, that's the link to the portal and i'm in the corporate program... but i figured it'd be the same for all of them as i didn't see anything weird in the URI...try http://developer.apple.com/iphone and click on the Developer Program Portal link on the right hand side
3/18/2009 10:05:15 PM
^I'm in the individual program and it works the same for me as it does for you. I can add up to 100 phone's
3/18/2009 10:09:43 PM
not sure why the original link didnt work but that did. god damn i feel like an idiot.and for the record, you can't see shit as far as UUID in iTunes until it's activated. had to go to xcode to get it
3/18/2009 10:11:49 PM
I'm so jealous... oh well.
3/18/2009 10:11:58 PM
3/18/2009 10:14:10 PM
wonder how much i can sell them for?
3/18/2009 10:15:37 PM
now that's an interesting question maybe this is my chance to get a free individual account? i think i can make $99 back pretty quickly... heheoh, in other news, i went to the apple store today at crabtree to get another dock for my desk at work. dude was ringing me up and happened to see me use the spotlight panel while i was looking for a contact's name... he FREAKED OUT and went "OMG IS THAT THE 3.0 SOFTWARE?!!?"i said "...yeah?" and he told me to hang on one second and ran to the back room and got like 3 people plus a few mac geniuses and brought them over... they all wanted to play with it, haha... i spent like 30 minutes letting them play with copy/paste and shit.apparently they can't be in the dev program because they're employees, so none of them have access to 3.0. and to think, if i had taken that job as a mac genius, i wouldn't have 3.0 on my phone now ]
3/18/2009 10:16:35 PM
I cant wait for 3.0
3/18/2009 10:18:29 PM
for a small fee...jk, if you really want it, PM me.[Edited on March 18, 2009 at 10:37 PM. Reason : OMG COPY PASTE IS TEH AWESOME]
3/18/2009 10:34:07 PM
k, def loving the email search feature.
3/19/2009 7:49:03 AM
It would die searching my inbox. I have over 15,000 messages in my inbox right now, and thats down from over 20k :| I am over my quota by about 10,000%
3/19/2009 9:28:09 AM
3/19/2009 9:44:40 AM
You can pick to from subject or all..doesn't do bodies I don't thinkand I have over 10gb of email
3/19/2009 9:54:02 AM
it searches the local mail store first (by default it keeps the 50 most recent messages on the device)if there are no matches, it searches through IMAP or exchangealso, slow operating system is slow... lolanyone else experiencing serious slowness? like it takes me literally a minute to get into mail and open a message...]
3/19/2009 1:14:53 PM
^not here. It is a tad slower but not nearly that slow and not to the point where it is unusable.
3/19/2009 1:16:27 PM
maybe it's my phone then
3/19/2009 2:12:07 PM
^or maybe its my phone and the big missing pieces of glass help circulate cool air better making the processor more efficient jk
3/19/2009 2:17:51 PM
Mine is slow as balls at some things but fine for others. And I've got like 10 bugs to report.
3/19/2009 2:24:06 PM
heh, yeah, i've already reported a fewanybody else notice the problem with enterprise wifi networks? i.e. ones that use radius to auth wpa/wpa2?
3/19/2009 2:26:47 PM
anybody else seeing this in the console every 30 seconds?

3/19/2009 4:34:44 PM
I don't know why anyone would want this beta version on a device as critical as your phone.Shit, the last major firmware was still pretty much in beta when it was formally released.
3/19/2009 4:50:58 PM
because it's actually surprisingly stable... it's just slow.also, i wanted stereo bluetooth. and MMS. and spotlight.i originally only planned to have it on my dev device but i ended up flashing my personal phone as well.]
3/19/2009 6:45:35 PM
I really like the hitting the home button takes you to home first, hit it again to go to search, hit it again to go back to home..Pretty simple & obviously exactly how it should work. But I guess that's usually exactly what Apple does. Usually.
3/19/2009 6:57:04 PM
apple almost always gets things right the 3rd time aroundexamples: macbook pro, OS X (10.3 is when it basically started to not suck), iPhone OS 3, etc.
3/19/2009 7:13:31 PM
Why am I surprised by that Evan?
3/19/2009 7:21:26 PM
i want the 3.0! Color me jealous.
3/22/2009 6:14:15 PM
They should seriously just go ahead and release copy/paste to everyone at the very least. There are a log of bugs in 3.0 but copy paste is not one of them.
3/22/2009 6:16:59 PM
