picked up some Dogfish Indian Brown Ale tonight, which I had never had, which is odd since I like Dogfish and like Brown Alevery good, and when a 6-pack of 7.2% ABV is the same price as a 4-pack of 9.0% ABV 90-minute, this might become my regular when I'm not chugging Coors Light

had a People's Porter for the first time tonight. Did not like the way it smelled for some reason (smelled "eggy" oddly enough) but enjoyed it other than that. Especially @ $3.99/650mL.

2012 Event Horizon is super boozy, not very good in my opinion
1/1/2013 12:58:58 AM
OHB overrated? Hmmm
1/1/2013 7:12:42 AM
Yea, I had a 2011 Event Horizon last summer and thought it was too thick and boozy wasn't impressed, but thought I'd give it one more try, so I only picked up one bottle. I saw a Cascade Apricot on the shelf though I wish I would have gotten.[Edited on January 1, 2013 at 12:48 PM. Reason : /]

drink the yule bock quickly. OMB beers have a tendency to "expire" soon after their bottle date. It was my favorite Christmas ale this year. That's a very good haul, i can speak for almost all of them. The Fullsteam Fruitcake is very heavy on the Fig. It seemed to really be a love or hate beer with my group. Not sure which Pisgah beers you got there, but judging by the cage and cork i'm thinking one is Baptista. that one is delicious and scarily drinkable for 10+%. The two Greenman bottles are delicious. They are doing some awesome things with skunky farmhouse beers. The one on the right in that picture was my favorite. Overall looks like a really solid haul.
1/1/2013 7:51:13 PM
Yep, that's a Baptista - was pretty sweet on draft at the brewery, didn't remember that from the last few years. The Valdez should be lovely as always.Tasted the Fullsteam at the brewery, thought is was hugely boozy in a good way.We drank a bottle of L'homme Vert at the taproom and thought it was pretty incredible as well. Also have a Maceo down there that I haven't tried.More about Bull City - I thought the burgers were awesome but wasn't moved by any of their beers, and the Snow Hill winter warmer was downright bad. Will queue up the OMB[Edited on January 1, 2013 at 8:13 PM. ^Bull City and a Bulls game and small Durham crawl is on my short list for next year. so i'm a little buzzed and just put in another Cascade order2 x Blueberry2 x Noyaux2 x Apricot (my personal favorite)the Noyaux was $25 which drove the cost up, but i'm a sucker for Cascade beers. and when the package arrives next week i'll be surprised, haha.anyone going to Brewvival in Charleston in February? jbrick83 will you be there? I bought me and the gf tickets for Christmas. Will be staying at her condo in MP and cabbing over.
1/1/2013 8:27:52 PM
Saw both the blueberry and apricot in NC last week, fwiwNice haul cheesehead
1/1/2013 9:07:14 PM
yeah, Cascade shows up in fits and spurts. no real rhyme or reason to how much or when the distro gets it out. Ordering direct, with shipping, ends up being about the same or even a few bucks less than off the shelf with markup.

First one I will be missing. Now that I'm engaged, I finally got invited to annual Aruba vacation that my fiance's family takes every year. Shoot me a message before you head down and I can give you some Charleston tips if you'd like. Or you could just take the whole week off and stay at my place and dog/house sit. I dont know if I have a drinking problem, or if I just get antsy when I pick up a few good bombers, but I cannot keep them more than a few days in the fridge without opening them up. Seems to me that a lot of craft brew drinkers can buy and store bottles for months at a time
1/3/2013 9:46:05 AM
these days I like drinking with people or, at the least, splitting a big bottle with my gf. If I want a beer and i'm alone, or she doesn't want one, then I usually just drink a random 12oz or a homebrew.it's rare for me to pop open a 22oz on my own. if I ever do, it's something i know i can finish. usually something lighter bodied.
1/3/2013 10:01:03 AM
almost every time I pop a 22oz Allie tries a sample, but I have no problem drinking a bomber on my own these daysdo you have a bottle stopper/resealer worth a damn? I saw a couple by the register at Bottle Rev but didnt pick one up
1/3/2013 10:13:00 AM
no, other than a wine bottle stopper we use for wines. i'll stick in on the beer bottle if we are drinking short pours. never really had the need to reseal or stop for long period of time.

aren't there a couple of us on this thread that live in Washington state? if so, Russian River has pulled out of that market.
1/3/2013 10:46:08 AM
I live in CO and I gotta say Russian River is getting harder to find. Only Damnation is on our shelves and fortunately we still get Pliny once every 5 weeks. But our last batch of supplication and consecration were gone in days, they typically linger for weeks if not months, leading me to believe our state is impacted as well, even if they aren't pulling out of our state yet...

Premium cans? Canned beer is just as good.

this has been my favorite "draft only, no growler" beer that's been around here. first bottling run was released to the hounds yesterday. shit is completely outstanding. karbach's bourbon barrel hellfighter porter. karbach is a local brewery that started up, ~1.5 years ago, and have been putting out some solid shit. still only self distributed around houston, but i toot their horn generously for this beer. makers mark and buffalo trace barrel aged blend, this batch seems to be more on the buffalo trace, which gives it a more pronounced bourbon aftertaste, without being harsh at all. integrates well with the vanilla and the light roastyness. a little weird on the nose while too cold, but opens up perfectly as it comes to room temp. for a porter, it's damn near teeth coatingly thick. nose is slightly muted, but i have been fighting off a cold from last week. insanely drinkable.
1/8/2013 9:12:33 AM
it's that time of year for all of the Hopslam nerds to come post in this thread again. I plan to be sitting at my local bottle shop on release day with a beer in hand watching all the random faces come in with one thing on their mind. should be a good time.
