The lack of MMS thing was always very simple. It was intended to 'free' users from the chain of network providers and use email instead. It has however backfired on them because there was essentially no backward compatible bridge. That being said MMS is gay and a huge ripoff. Encourage multimedia emails instead.

hottness
3/17/2009 2:14:46 PM
the landscape email will really make my mom happy, she has had a hard time typing on the screen... not that I'm sure it's the phone fault.
3/17/2009 2:19:17 PM
spotlight!
3/17/2009 2:20:07 PM
thank god! when is this going to be released? this will complete my iphone
3/17/2009 2:23:45 PM
stereo bluetooth? wouldnt that take new hardware? maybe only on the new iphones? hrm
3/17/2009 2:24:04 PM
WOOT FOR A2DP!!!There's a bluetooth adapter that was previously locked down in the iPod Touch. Says it will be available, so that must mean they unlocked it. The 1st gen iPhones are SOL on that though...[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 2:32 PM. Reason : *]
3/17/2009 2:29:36 PM
available "this summer"FAIL
3/17/2009 2:30:10 PM
only 3g can do A2DPbeta avail today if you're a developer- I know what I'm doing when I get home
3/17/2009 2:30:25 PM
so who here is a developer
3/17/2009 2:30:36 PM
I was sort of confused about the turn-by-turn stuff. Is that not available through the regular mapping app?
3/17/2009 2:52:39 PM
^^Me But I don't see OS 3.0 up yet. And part of the developer site is down.
3/17/2009 2:55:36 PM
^^ from appleinsider
3/17/2009 2:58:05 PM
so developers can use Core to build apps with turn-by-turn, but still cant use apple map app to build their maps.Kinda sucks, I'd much rather just have turn-by-turn in the apple map app.I get the reasoning though.[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 3:03 PM. Reason : .]
3/17/2009 3:02:51 PM
yeah, but that means Garmin and other GPS makers can now come out with them. Plus, you will get apps where you can download maps to the iPhone so you can use them, and GPS, w/o a network connection
3/17/2009 3:04:21 PM
Fuck yeah. What's left to bitch about now? lol
3/17/2009 3:09:45 PM
^ hopefully nothing that won't be addressed with the hardware update (video camera, battery)
3/17/2009 3:11:29 PM
two of my biggest complaints are the lack of customization (themes) and organization options. Themes would be pretty easy for them to implement (hell, they could probably even charge for them).I know introducing folders kind of goes against their simplicity shtick, but I should be able to throw my 4 pages of games into a single folder so i dont have to scroll across them everytime i'm trying to get to something in the back.
3/17/2009 3:16:59 PM
3/17/2009 3:26:29 PM
3/17/2009 3:28:30 PM
i still can't hit the apple developer site
3/17/2009 3:43:06 PM
I can now...but its slow.
3/17/2009 3:54:08 PM
i can get there, and i can log in to the dev center...but it takes me to the "we're updating the site" message I WANT IT NOWWWW!at least this gives me a chance to copy all of my apps and stuff over, yay ssh.
3/17/2009 4:07:15 PM
hehhttp://developer.apple.com/iphone/ now just spits out "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable"pwnt
3/17/2009 4:37:13 PM
I can get to the dev center but when i try to login i get a connection interrupted
3/17/2009 4:40:31 PM
Work dammit!!
3/17/2009 4:41:03 PM
so still no folders? not a huge deal but they would be nice
3/17/2009 4:54:44 PM
^ folders for what. Email? Or files? there is no direct way to access files, so folders aren't necessary
3/17/2009 5:05:39 PM
here are some round ups of the event today, breaking down all the features- new Application business models, like selling subscriptions inside applicationshttp://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/03/iphone-sdk-focus-buying-content-from-within-apps.arstoo bad these issues were not addressed (especially the second)

I think he is talking about folders as in, a way to organize your launch screen where all the apps just hang out in a big ol' mass of un-organization right now. That is one of my biggest problems with it. SURRRRRE it's easy for the general masses to use so they don't have to get "confused" with folders or something, but damn, at least give us a choice to use some method of organization should we so desire.Hate the pandering to simplest-minded-common-denominator.
3/17/2009 5:34:39 PM
oh, yeah. A redesign of the "springboard", is what I think it was being referred to. Several good jailbroken apps that do that. yeah, that's too bad.
3/17/2009 5:36:07 PM
so is there going to be global notifications from within apps? and actual push?
3/17/2009 5:37:55 PM
as long as the apps implement it.
3/17/2009 5:41:29 PM
they supposedly promised that functionality to developers last summer but nothing came of it...
3/17/2009 5:43:17 PM
with the apps it sounds like spotlight will give you the option to search for you app instead of the flipping... for those who have a gazillion apps.
3/17/2009 6:04:58 PM
GRRRRRRRRRRso close heh, just talked to the guy that it named - he's been trying to log in to the dev portal to approve it for the better part of an hour now but can't get in either come onnnn apple!]
3/17/2009 6:07:13 PM
3/17/2009 6:11:50 PM

3/17/2009 6:44:28 PM

But you can't offer an in-app upgrade for a free app, iirc.
3/17/2009 8:48:07 PM
but you can for "Content" is I read the thing right.
3/17/2009 8:56:01 PM
the analysis i saw said that the original app had to be not free in order for you to be able to offer any additional services through itunes.
