I've been bad the last month. July was the month of vacations for me so gym attendence suffered a bit Nonetheless here are two new pics. I think I see a little improvement, though maybe it's just the tan. Also, my weight is holding steady at 202.0 lbs.I'm gonna try to hit the gym hard for the next 4 weeks to help make more progress ahead of my surgery date
8/10/2010 9:38:53 AM
pull your shorts down a little and take another pic. looks like you're starting to get a bit of an Adonis Belt(no homo, i swear)
8/10/2010 9:53:45 AM
Perhaps next time...

Skwinkle, that protein powder was good Has anyone used this? I got it from Sam's Club yesterday and tried it today, it was actually really yummy... It has 13g of protein per serving (and 150 cals).Does it seem like a good one to have? I am new to the world of protein powders.[Edited on August 10, 2010 at 6:53 PM. Reason : oh ps I got vanilla]
8/10/2010 6:52:47 PM
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/mgn/pureisolate.html25g of protein, 0g fat, <1g net carbs, 103 calories....80 servings, $35, 10% off coupon available, ~$5 shippingI more or less live off this stuff when I can't afford chicken[Edited on August 10, 2010 at 7:54 PM. Reason : .]
8/10/2010 7:53:50 PM
so i got a scale that measures bodyfat from your feet to your hands it has a little handle bar thing you hold onto and it got really good reviews.it told me 23.8% which doesnt surprise me.my upper body is pretty lean, but lower..... we'll see how this goes :p
8/10/2010 11:15:02 PM
^^^That's a fairly low amount of protein per serving for a protein powder.
8/10/2010 11:21:15 PM
Damn... well I saw it at Sam's and was like yeah that sounds good I drink it with milk though so it bumps it to 19g for my "recovery drink"
8/10/2010 11:26:40 PM
^^^^ What flavors have you tried and how are they? I'm tempted by cake batter. And I would like to find a chocolate and strawberry that don't have the sort of bitter chemical taste that I've found in the ones I've tried. But I hate buying a big container without knowing if it's decent.
8/11/2010 9:11:54 AM
I endorse Dymatize Nutrition Elite Whey Protein Isolate - Rich Chocolate. I picked up mine at The Vitamin Shoppe. I mix mine with Silk Almond Milk and a spoonful of peanut butter if the shake is for a snack or just a banana when used as a recovery drink.
8/11/2010 9:18:19 AM
^^^19g? Geez, at the least take two scoops to make it 38!
8/11/2010 10:18:34 AM
Well 19g is 2 scoops + 1 cup 1% milk... I bet it would be amazing with peanut butter. Or almond butter.... mmmm.Swink -- I love the vanilla. The container isn't too big, definitely not the size you had at your place. It was about $15 at Sam's Club I think.
8/11/2010 11:32:17 AM
I'm aiming to stay with whey because I already eat so much soy and I don't want to go overboard with the soy. I have had vanilla whey though, and it's good. I just don't like vanilla enough to see myself wanting it too often.
8/11/2010 11:42:46 AM
There was another thing there for whey protein, but I decided to go with soy (because of the vanilla). I think the whey one was only $19... Not sure how much protein, but it looked more intense than the one I got. I think the flavor was chocolateDo you have a Sam's card? I know this is kinda in a few weeks, but Eric is coming to visit and I could get him to bring you back some if you want to save some money!
8/11/2010 11:45:37 AM
I don't anymore because it expired. But I also won't need any more powder for a good while. You saw how much I have I just figured I'd ask about the flavors since other people were talking about it so I can keep in the back of my mind what kind I want to get when I do get low. Thanks for the offer though.
8/11/2010 12:05:27 PM
Oh wow, my mistake. The protein I'm using at the moment is 26g per scoop and I use two scoops so that's 52g plus whateve protein is in the milk I use. $15 at Walmart for a 2lb container. Though I think I need to start getting my stuff online.I didn't realize protein was sold in such diluded amounts to only be 19g with two scoops!
8/11/2010 12:14:11 PM
this stuff is the bomb2 scoops + 2 cups skim milk = 50g protein and its delicious and i don't mean delicious for a protein shake i mean delicious for chocolate milk. Smooth and creamy also only 90cals/scoop
8/11/2010 12:15:49 PM
I don't really see why 19g isn't enough... Especially when I get protein from other places throughout the day.. I eat eggs, cheese, fish, and meat. I really only bought it for my "recovery drink" after P90X
8/11/2010 12:23:03 PM
i buy the AdvantEdge drinks (4 for $5.99 but they're usually on sale at Target, HT, Kroger). it's like 17g of protein and only 3g of carbs. plus they taste really good.
8/11/2010 12:30:48 PM
^^ It's not that it isn't enough, just that it has about the same amount of calories as some other ones that have higher protein content. So when the primary function of the powder is to deliver protein, it's a bit less efficient at doing that.
8/11/2010 12:34:20 PM
^^^also it depends on what you're trying to do. I'm trying to take in 150-200g protein per day. If I was using that protein powder it'd be a lot harder to hit that goal.
8/11/2010 1:17:17 PM
is there a clear cut point where your caloric deficiency is too much? I know there's a point, but what is it?i dont think im eating enough, but im eating clean and a lot quantity wise.. for me.i feel like performance while lifting is becoming a factor and i'm tired a lot at work.also, i dont think i'm doing a very good job with sleeping enough.
8/11/2010 1:37:00 PM
I think healthy is 500 calories a day (about one pound a week). You can do 750/day but you're just hungry all the time and that's no fun.
8/11/2010 1:43:50 PM
^are you trolling in a lounge thread?
8/11/2010 1:48:44 PM
huh?
8/11/2010 1:52:52 PM
oh wait...you are talking about calories from protein powder?
8/11/2010 1:55:28 PM
He's talking about caloric deficit, not how many calories you should be eating.
8/11/2010 1:56:23 PM
got it. I was confused by his statement.
8/11/2010 1:57:17 PM
oh haha sorry. Yeah he was talking about caloric deficiency so I mentioned that most websites (like the dailyplate/myfitnesspal) recommend a 500 calorie deficiency for losing one pound per week. Remember 3500 calories (7 days times 500) equals about one pound. Moving up to a 750 calorie deficiency per day or 5250 calories per week (1.5 pounds a week) is sometimes suggested but you're just hungry all the time. The biggest initial question is your BMR though. That's determined by your lifestyle. THEN you add in food and exercise. Finding that BMR is the hard part though.
8/11/2010 2:07:03 PM
I would like to subscribe to your newsletter. Sorry for the mix-up.
8/11/2010 2:28:18 PM
ok, then what's a good resource for calculating bmrive used a ton of calculators online and the range they give is hugeas a numbers nerd, i dont like ranges, i want a hard number i've gotten from 2100-2700 and i dont see how it can be that wildly inconsistentwhere im going with this is that if it's 2100, im on track. but if it's 2700, im vastly under consuming.[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 2:47 PM. No calculation is going to be perfect.Choose the best option, track for a week and see what happens. Then just adjust calories accordingly from there.
8/11/2010 3:34:19 PM
Yeah. I always wonder about stuff like this:http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=13591Seems like a cool idea. Comes up with an estimate of calories burned per day using an accelerometer. Don't know how accurate it would be though. Trial and error is always the best method.
8/11/2010 3:39:26 PM
thanks for the input guys.so with the above categories, which would you put me in:I'm still rehabbing the leg, but walking around normally. Can't do much cadio work besides a stationary bike. hoping in a month or so to get approval to start jogging/running again.Seated job behind a computer all day, don't do much in the means of physical activity in the afternoons besides cooking/cleaning/walking the dog for two hours per day... but not counting pt probably average 45 mins/day with bike+upper body lifting / really light lower body work.lightly active?
8/11/2010 4:01:49 PM
So my BMR x 1.55= 2289.97what is that calculating? Calories intake? I am kind of confused.
8/11/2010 4:14:44 PM
Yeah an estimate for total calories for the day to maintain your weight.
8/11/2010 4:17:01 PM
I am ok with my weight but I can't eat that much to maintain it.][Edited on August 11, 2010 at 4:19 PM. Reason : I average about 1500-1600 calories per day.]
8/11/2010 4:17:51 PM
Well it's just an estimate based upon the activity level you put down. If you eat less you'll lose weight if you eat more, gain. I can eat that much in one meal. Anyone live in Charlotte? Loco Lime has unlimited taco night Tuesdays. All you can eat tacos with rice and beans (well up to 10) for $7.50. 8 different types of meat to choose from. Typically use it as my cheat day. It's a pretty cool place too. That's probably 1500-2000 right there with beer. heh.[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 4:22 PM. Reason : s]
