I picked up 2 sixes of the new Left Hand Nitro milk stout bottles, a bottle of silent night, and a bottle of Choklat. Really wanted to grab a bitches brew and a rogue double chocolate, but didn't want to spend any more money.

How is that Milk Stout Nitro? I thought about grabbing a six of it yesterday, but decided against it at the last minute

My haul for the weekend:

Two bottles of Rochefort 10
Abt 12
Anchorage Love Buzz Saison
Two cans of Ten Fidy

Drank one of the Rocheforts and the Love Buzz last night.

"HBO announced today that it’s partnering with New York’s Brewery Ommegang to create a series of beers “that directly tie into themes, characters and nuances…of the medieval-like fantasy realm of Westeros and surrounding kingdoms,” according to a press release. Iron Throne Blonde Ale, the first beer in the series — beeries? – should be on shelves in time for Game of Thrones‘s third season premiere on March 31. 750ml bottles will sell for the suggested retail price of one gold dragon $8.50, a pittance for any Lannister worth his salt."

nice

I'm already a big ommegang fan too so I'll be interested in checking them out at least once, at that price.

it's like, are they even trying?

what style of beer closely resembles that of the detailed, exotic foods and drinks that are enjoyed and delicately described in the Game of Thrones novels? Oh we know, let's make it a blonde ale. the most boring of ales.

well, yes I agree that the Blonde is a poor first choice (and should have been a Targaryen Blonde if they did one. They could have justified that more then) but I'm interested to see what else they do. If they at least do a half decent stout for Winterfell I'll be happy.

but palatable to non beer drinkers.

not like they were going to brew up a chewy spice ale to mimic the spiced winter wines or a "roll out of the bottle" mead that would have been drank.

not digging this trend, man.

This creepy dude from a jester king beer reminds me of what they could do if they did a "the others ale" or something.

admittedly, i have not read the books.

^^Yeah, I mean I'm not expecting anything great but it's fun and if they're half-decent at $8.50/750 it will be fun to have some while watching with friends.

I opened a bottle of Sam Adams New World Tripel over the weekend. Lots of fruit in the nose and taste and pretty much no alcohol, despite being 10%. Solid, enjoyable Belgian.

picked up a bottle of the brand new Uinta Crooked Line Sea Legs

it's a barrel aged baltic porter. looking forward to giving it a try.

Christmas Eve bottles are set. Event Horizon, BASC, Olde Rabbits Foot. might toss a sour in to mix it up, but it'll probably just be 2-3 of us tasting so a few barrel aged stouts might be plenty.

All you sour fans what do you think of Sang Noir from Cascade Brewing and how much would you pay for it?

Sang Noir is great, though my favorite from them is Apricot. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it. Ordering direct from Cascade you can usually get it around $20-22 each once shipping is added in.

Probably the best american wild cherry out there, wouldn't pay more than $20 for it, but it's worth it. Just to prepare yourself, it's pretty sour.

if you wouldn't pay $20 for Sang Noir, you wont be owning a bottle. The last batch was $21 at the brewery. The cheapest cascade sour/wild runs $18 at the brewery. No sales tax in Oregon at least.

My family are light drinkers and their preferences vary greatly, so the beer consumption won't be too high tonight. Here's what's on tap:

1 bottle white wine (moscato)
22 oz Fox Barrel Orange Peel and Coriander Pear Cider
22 oz Highland Cold Mountain

Add in some cocoa and a fifth of marshmallow fluff vodka to top off, we'll make the best of it.

With the fiancé out of town, it's just me and the brother in law who are drinkers...with my stepdad getting a beer or two in there. But there's not a lot to do around here so the two of us can put some alcohol down. I brought home the two aforementioned regular sized growlers, two small growlers of an Allagash Curieux and a New Belgium Coffee Chocolate Stout. THEN....five bottles of wine. Oh...and a 4 pack of Founders Breakfast Stout.

Oh god I totally agree

Also, I just found Williamsburg Aleworks and I'm in love; Coffeehouse Stout is excellent.

Another also, I finally tried the Firestone Walker IPA and it is definitely one of the best IPAs I've ever had
