wait until june/julyif i had to bet on when they'd do a hardware refresh, it'd be then... especially since they're unveiling os 3 next week... that would be right in line with their typical hardware refresh practices.
3/13/2009 11:59:41 AM
^so I guess I should wait until then to replace my busted iPhone? It still works as normal but the screen is shattered in the top left and its missing a few pieces of glass
3/13/2009 12:23:30 PM
what kind of hardware changes would be expected with a new phone anyways? I mean, they did 3G and GPS already.. I guess more memory would be expected and a better battery would be awesome..Any good guesses or leaked info?
3/13/2009 12:49:13 PM
bigger screen / better battery life would be worth a wait for me
3/13/2009 1:26:48 PM
^I don't see how a bigger screen could be achieved without making it a bigger phone.but better battery life would be nice plus video capabilities, which I know is already capable with jailbreaking. But if they improved the camera and added support for video that would be awesome!improved GPS with turn by turn would be another plus for me. The GPS is almost useless because you can't guarantee that it will even locate you to the blip. sometimes you just get the huge blue target that can never pin point you to a specific location, just a general area.[Edited on March 13, 2009 at 1:31 PM. making the screen go to the real edge of the phone width wise would add about 1/4" and they've got some room between the screen and ear hole that they could expand it that way too. they could probably find a way to change the button at the bottom and make the whole front of the phone truly a screen..not sure that they'd want to do that, but it's possible.i def wouldn't make the phone bigger unless it really really had better battery life.and i always thought the idea of a camera on the screen side so you could basically video conference with it would be a pretty awesome idea.. obvious MMS & turn by turn direction needed too[Edited on March 13, 2009 at 1:50 PM. 3/13/2009 1:47:46 PM
^they would need to maintain the same aspect ratio. So if they made it wider they'll have to make it taller.
3/13/2009 1:50:25 PM
i love the size of the phone. its almost non-existent in my jeans and fits so well in my hands. does anyone have any experience with the Griffin TuneFlex AUX Smartclick for either the iPhone or iPod?I'll use it predominantly with the iPod classic, i have too much music to even remotely carry it on my phone.
3/13/2009 1:51:59 PM
so here's the wish list so far for a new iphone model1. larger screen2. better battery life3. more storage4. garmin esque voice and real time directions on demand5. improved camera[Edited on March 13, 2009 at 1:54 PM. Reason : ]

^plz to fwd to apple
3/13/2009 2:09:34 PM
I think it's quite likely all of those, except maybe #1, will be in iPhone 3
3/13/2009 2:32:56 PM
i don't see the need for a bigger screen. yeah there's a little bit of room they could squeeze into it, but def not on the top of my want list[Edited on March 13, 2009 at 2:49 PM. Reason : .]

3/13/2009 4:27:59 PM
^how?
3/13/2009 4:29:04 PM
You can replace the glass/digitizer for about $30 in parts and some time.
3/13/2009 4:34:32 PM
is it a 3G?if so, apple was nice and kept the glass/digitizer separated from the screen so you don't have to replace the whole damn thing (or awkwardly try to unglue them) like you did on the first gennew digitizer/glass is around $40 or so]
3/13/2009 4:35:14 PM
its 3g. and i heard you can replace the screen...but when i researched it a while back i was reading some crazy shit like ungluing stuff...
3/13/2009 4:37:22 PM
so my 2G iphone has started randomly shutting off when idle. it works fine when in use, but 10min or so after non-use 90% of the time it shuts off. i'll be able to turn it back on half the time, only to have it die shortly after i stop using it. work's fine/turns back on when plugged in. I was running 1.1.4 jailbroken/unlocked when the problem started. i then restored to 2.2.1 and jailbroke/unlocked it, spent 2 hours adding apps and whatnot using wifi, only to have it do the exact same thing. I know [words] but any help would be greatly appreciated. I rarely make it to this thread, so PMs would be greatly appreciated. any solutions will without a doubt be rewarded by quality brews. Please Help.

MMS messaging? there is no reason not to have it...
3/14/2009 3:23:40 PM
^ yeah, but that will be for the iPhone 3.0 software, which will be available for all existing iPhones, not just the next hardware revision
3/14/2009 3:50:51 PM
i dont understand why everyone flips their shit over copy/paste. i haven't seen a need for that once in the 4 months i've had the phone now
3/14/2009 4:09:02 PM
the ONE THING i would like to see is a damn A2DP profile.PLEASE APPLE, PUT IT IN OS 3
3/14/2009 4:23:44 PM
^^^Yep, if that isn't in OS3, complete failure. And after thinking about it, there won't be any screen updates. The CPU is too limited to support higher res, and a larger screen would mean more power and added hardware matrix for manufacturing.

I have a need, very often, for copy and paste. I hate when I am in an ssh application, see something I need forwarded to tech support for some decode, and cant copy it for an email. I hate it when I read some article online and want to copy some of the text for an email, and cant. The copy and paste functionality or lack thereof, generally is a loss of my ability to take text from the multiple applications and put them into email. I have managed to use this iphone as 'almost' a substitute computer, and not having copy/paste is a huge pain in the ass.[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 9:28 AM. Reason : .]

so i guess there's some sort of 3.0 preview event today...any word on an expected release date? sounds like copy-paste is coming...http://i.gizmodo.com/5170262/kevin-rose-on-iphone-30-cutpaste-features-equal-palm-prehttp://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/161350/iphone_30_rumors_most_likely_to_come_true.htmlhttp://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-10197342-37.html]
3/17/2009 9:51:20 AM
yeh sounds quite major. i hope they can jailbreak and unlock it fairly quickly... im' using an Aussie phone here unlocked so i can't use any legit firmware :/
3/17/2009 10:18:45 AM
STILL NO FUCKING MMS? JESUS CHRIST APPLE
3/17/2009 10:34:50 AM
^Back when I had a phone that had MMS I still never used it. But I do upload photos to my mobileme account, email, facebook/twitter from time to time.
3/17/2009 11:36:48 AM
3/17/2009 11:38:20 AM
is it them being slow to implement it or is it at&t not wanting to deal with the increased bandwidth usage
3/17/2009 12:01:32 PM
For the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, how about a Bluetooth profile that accepts wireless stereo headphones FFS.
3/17/2009 12:09:15 PM
^^ i mean, iphone gets some huge percent of the national/global mobile browsing bandwidth market as it is anyways. though i'm sure you're right in that at&t is holding out for some variety of technical reasons

Yes Apple, this is what we wanted. Who needs Copy/Paste and MMS when you can just check your blood pressure instead?
3/17/2009 1:37:49 PM
thank god we'll finally have true gps nav! this was my only disappointment w/ my iphone, problem solved.^I have to admit the blood pressure cuff is a very neat idea.[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Reason : ad]

^^I would take innovative ideas, accessories etc over copy/paste and MMS. Granted something like ^^ is not something I'd use ever... but I like where they're going with it.[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Reason : ^^]

finally, back to the core features:
