i know they were talking about it when the storms were still on their way there. i haven't been watching the news since then though.

Seeing those Sanford videos at the Lowe's it is AMAZING to me that no one got injured or killed. That is some massive damage. The manager who moved everyone quickly to the back saved A LOT of lives.[Edited on April 17, 2011 at 12:01 AM. Reason : x]

a lowes or a home depot, etc seems like one of the more terrifying places to be in a tornadoi was amazed that no one was killed or seriously injured, as well. i'm glad, but the store is like, FLAT. plus those things seem not that well built AND they have all those tall tall aisles of heavy ass shit that would just squash everyone.

We were really fucking lucky to miss it at our house. I had to leave work (very unlike me, for serious) to make sure my dogs were okay. Power came back on about an hour ago, though, and everybody I know is safe and sound. Shit was scurry.

Wow, was just checking storm reports and they are saying that they had 14 fatalities in Askewville. I used to do some work out that way years ago. They are saying the fatalities are up to 24 in NC.

Local news failed bigtime as far as warning people. My wife is terrified of tornadoes so we watched the weather channel all friday night and they kept saying over and over again that the Carolinas were going to be slammed. I go to WRAL.com, no mention of any storm coming unless I go into the weather section and click on Saturday.
4/17/2011 7:40:29 AM
WRAL was saying as early as Tuesday-Wednesday that the risk for severe storms was going to be something to watch out for on saturday. All day Friday they were warning folks about our "moderate risk" from SPC and that it is very unusual to get that risk for NC, so take it seriouslythen yesterday, they were cutting in all morning warning folks to be prepared and we had been upgraded to "high" from SPC, which is almost like a guarantee of bad weather.I realize you are referring to their website, but i remember seeing it on there as well on the front page....can't remember which day i checked...probably friday night[Edited on April 17, 2011 at 8:10 AM. ^^^ yes! i was just thinking that now i can claim it on homeowners insurance and build a shed that DOESN'T suck honestly, there doesn't APPEAR to be much damage...for all i know, though, there could be roof damage or leaks or something (heaven forbid)i never specifically put the shed on homeowners insurance, though, so perhaps its not covered? anyone ever made a homeowners insurance claim? the deck has a permit and as such SHOULD be covered under insurance, but it's not that expensive (or shouldn't be, looking at the pictures)...i'll check it out tomorrow[Edited on April 17, 2011 at 9:53 AM. my brother's street, east of Raleigh Blvd off Glascocka neighbor that was not so lucky as he was another of their streettheir backyard; previously you could barely see the sky from all the of the treesmetal shed wall stuck on tree

the shed wall blows my mind. didn't even come form a nearby neighbors house they're not sure where it came from. and i'm SO SO glad they cut down two trees recently that were dead and hanging very close to their house. it could've been a LOT worse.

sad stories coming out of bertie countyi live in a neighboring county and was home for the weekend to play a softball tournamenti have friends from the two towns in bertie that got hit. they have a combined 400 or so people so they are extremely close knit communities. After the Windsor flooding, it just feels like the residents cant catch a break
