Only The Weather Channel names storms, that way when people google it, they only see weather channel websites
2/24/2015 2:42:03 PM
Yeah let's not resort to the ass play that is referring to winter storms with names.
2/24/2015 2:47:58 PM
winter storm REAM-USI'm here all night folks
2/24/2015 2:53:29 PM
From the Raleigh NWS office:
2/24/2015 2:55:45 PM
synapse, I was gonna try to get stranded at a friend's house for fun. But now I guess I'm gonna work and clear the driveway when the snow stops.Just learned that yet another family member is in ICU, dying at 50. It's not a surprise, and he's been a bitter/depressed asshole for several years now, but I'm kinda sad about this one. Don't feel like fun today.^^LOL
2/24/2015 3:03:06 PM
Just drove from Raleigh to Greensboro. Pretty god damn white knuckle until the far side of chapel hill. By Mebane the roads were barely even wet.Good luck to all of you on your evening commutes.
2/24/2015 3:23:25 PM
Guy at works claimed these people predicted today's event pretty well. True?https://www.facebook.com/WxSouthhttps://www.facebook.com/WxRisk[Edited on February 24, 2015 at 3:50 PM. Reason : ^^ sry B ]
2/24/2015 3:49:57 PM
My bad! It's actually okay--I apparently still managed to LOL at ddk's post. How are you, by the way?
2/24/2015 3:59:19 PM
Good! Looks like another WAH week for me. While I usually hate that braggy Life is Good bullshit, I'm gonna borrow their slogan this week.
2/24/2015 4:05:52 PM
It's snowing as hard right now as it has all day in Chatham county.
2/24/2015 4:25:07 PM
I'm guessing the models severely underestimated the moisture pull from the atlantic with this one as it keeps trying to backbuild.
2/24/2015 4:28:20 PM
^^^Good to hear!^^How far out in Chatham County? The only reason I still post is to try to get you to hang out and be my best friend. So this is important.
2/24/2015 4:29:45 PM
finally stopped snowing in morrisville in the past 30 minutes ... easily 3 inches today.
2/24/2015 4:30:46 PM
looks like there is more on the way
2/24/2015 4:35:05 PM
It finally stopped in Carrboro. It stopped for a little bit around 1:30 but was pumping it back out again by 2:00 I think.
2/24/2015 4:47:55 PM
it's weird that the snow is so wet it's actually helping to clear the roads
2/24/2015 4:50:03 PM
Yea, I can't really figure out the roads. It's like 25 deg here in Apex and has been snowing steady all day. Yet the roads look the best they have all day. Perhaps they've salted them?
2/24/2015 4:52:48 PM
Key word "LOOK".Go for a spin and report back.
2/24/2015 4:59:34 PM
They have salted and brined the roads all day...most of the main roads wont have any or snow accumulation. Secondary roads overnight will be rough.Prolly a delay again tomorrow morning. It's still coming down hard here in South Raleigh and all the precip back building looks like it will continue for a little longer.Interested to see what all this snow and moisture does to the ground ahead of wednesday. could make for some epic snow accumulation.
2/24/2015 5:00:57 PM
2/24/2015 5:02:17 PM
high tomorrow is 45 with a partly cloudy sky. I'd expect some melting.
2/24/2015 5:03:39 PM
yea but tomorrow night it's supposed to drop temp and snow again. so anything that melts will turn to ice topped with more ice/snow according to weatherunderground
2/24/2015 5:06:38 PM
true, but I was talking about the snow accumulation - while we may see 3"+ today plus whatever tomorrow night, on the ground total accumulation at the end of the event seems like it will be muted since part/much of that 3" or so is going to melt (total fallen & accumulated vs total accumulation on the ground once it's done).[Edited on February 24, 2015 at 5:09 PM. 2/24/2015 5:08:40 PM
Wake County wasting no time this go-round with closing schools for tomorrow.
2/24/2015 5:35:38 PM
the wed-thurs snow accumulation will be much less than what falls, the melting may be enough that thursday morning is uneventful
2/24/2015 6:28:15 PM
2/24/2015 7:08:08 PM
the sun
2/24/2015 7:09:11 PM
The roads in Holly Springs are pretty bad. Fishtailed 4 or 5 times on the way to the liquor store and when I got there it was closed.
2/24/2015 7:09:24 PM
^^that was my guess, though it was never really out. And half of my street never melted. Go figure.
2/24/2015 7:14:36 PM
it was overcast, but there was still plenty of the spectrum that makes through the clouds to add jsut enough black body radiation to melt snow that was already very warm and wet
2/24/2015 7:20:20 PM
No shit at fort Bragg today.....One of my Soldeirs drove an up-armored humvee into a ditch in 2 inches of snow. #1 - I asked why he was going fast enough to slide off the road. #2 -I also asked how do you wreck a extra heavy 4 wheel drive humvee on a surface street on a straight road? Answer is: speeding in a heavy vehicle on slush, texting and running off the road. Thanks for the mountain of paperwork guy.
2/24/2015 7:38:35 PM
2/24/2015 7:47:38 PM
I was driving with my truck in 2wd to have a little fun with it though.
2/24/2015 7:50:47 PM
No way will Thursday morning be uneventful, it's supposed to snow until the almost mid day
2/24/2015 7:52:18 PM
Trying not to get too excited. All of the out of town guys maps have us at 5-8. The local guys keep showing radars where were getting mostly rain. Trying not to get my dreams crushed.
2/24/2015 7:54:09 PM
Not matter what happens, I have to go to work, even if post is closed. Bad timing
2/24/2015 8:04:17 PM
so much black ice right now, idiot drivers are going to spin out and turn tomorrow's morning commute into a parking lot.
2/24/2015 9:25:12 PM
Just drove from town of Wake Forest to Capital/440 and back again. Capital is still in really good shape. Most dangerous thing I witnesses was people driving twenty MPH for no good reason.
2/24/2015 9:41:30 PM
WRAL makes it sound like nothing is really going to happen.
2/24/2015 10:06:37 PM
That's what I'm saying. But most of the accumulation maps I've seen show us getting at least 5
2/24/2015 10:12:09 PM
NAM and GFS (for both of these, it just lists the QPF, which is about a 10:1 ratio, 10 inches of snow per 1 inch of QPF
2/24/2015 10:14:56 PM
From the 8:25 PM Area Forecast Discussion from the Raleigh NWS office:
2/24/2015 10:15:36 PM
Yeah, already canceled an appointment I would have had to drive 45 minutes out to and back from on Thursday. Going to work this morning was fun enough without getting nailed by somebody driving like a dope.
2/24/2015 11:46:57 PM
2/24/2015 11:47:43 PM
Closer to 10" for Raleigh. OR all this backbuilding could make it closer to 19"
2/24/2015 11:56:42 PM
Storm is shifting north, expect 1-3"
2/25/2015 6:39:06 AM
How are roads? Particularly 54 in morrisville? ?
2/25/2015 7:14:31 AM
I came in to downtown this morning, old stage to 401, and it fucking sucked, I definitely should have stayed at home. 401 was decent once it merged with 70, but getting there was bad
2/25/2015 7:42:01 AM
I was surprised that wade wasn't better. it's not bad as long as you stay in lane, i just assumed that it would be spotless with the DOT station right there. 40 is fine, in a few spots the merge lanes are still icy but that's all i saw. One of the bridges was slick but i can't remember which one.54 looked fine at TW Alexander area[Edited on February 25, 2015 at 8:11 AM. Reason : .]
2/25/2015 8:10:36 AM
Roads were the opposite of how they usually are. The road in my neighborhood had dried out and was perfectly fine so I thought oh awesome easy drive into work. The main roads however still had snow and ice on them including 440. Definitely fish tailed a few times going over the bridges and saw at least one wreck on 440 where it looked like someone rear ended someone. Hopefully they melt a little while they still have a chance this afternoon before tonight rolls around. Im gonna go ahead and assume I wont be at work tomorrow if this whole 4-8" total happens.
