It goes all the way to the west edge of downtown proper and quite a ways south, too.

Capital Blvd. and surrounding area is out from Millbrook Rd. all the way to the Beltline.

It randomly rained shingles in the bedford neighborhood off falls of neuse. They just came floating down from a few hundred feet in the sky.

My church is on New Hope Rd. near Buffalo Rd.

I heard that it was one of the hardest-hit areas.. lots of members of our congregation have their homes and cars damaged

I didn't know that this tornado was going to be such a big deal!

They have been saying for days now about the very high risk of tornados and damaging storms. Of course, alot of people think it will never happen to them....and brush it off...

What the hell does the governor have to do with weather? Maybe if she blew hard enough the tornado would of go backwards?

Lets not even talk about the past governors of the wonderful state of SC.....

One of my friends' parents had their house destroyed in the Greensboro/High Point tornado last March. Any tornado is no joke. :/

^^^^i agree with you but on the same token-we get warnings about this ALL OF THE TIME.

its hard to tell which ones to take seriously anymore. (granted the death toll should have been warning enough).

but how many times have we been warned about a tropical storm or hurricane?
how many times have we actually had serious tornadoes vs tornado watches and even warnings?
and they say this was the worst tornado we've seen since 1980-something...theres no telling how many warnings and watches and all we've had sine then.

dont get me wrong i agree with you totally! but it really i think its sadly easy to see why it wasnt taken quite as seriously as it should have been.

frankly i didnt know we were at high risk until i stepped outside this morning. the air felt right for the conditions, and then i saw during the hockey game that shit was for reals. i preped an oh-shit-bunker, and got into it when i saw the one cell was headed to my house, and stayed on the internet... and texted peeps to make sure they were alive if i heard things about their area.

i'll admit i over prepared... i grabbed a knife, flashlights, cell phones, my id, cards, and cash... but if my house got jacked up, i'd have been ready to roll.

Actually that second video isn't from the same storm. Looks like per the comments it was a video from last year near zebulon. If you remember, I think the Raleigh tornado was quite rain-wrapped and looked a lot more like the WRAL video.

I lost my power before I even heard about the Lowe's being destroyed!

But yeah, like Joie said.. I didn't take it seriously because we have tornado warnings all the time.

Nothing major happened here in North Raleigh..just heavy wind, rain, and hail.

Are you serious? You take ALL of them seriously. If nothing, happens then so be it. People take shit for granted way too much. Me included. There is usually a reason why they give these warnings and if it doesn't happen then great, you avoided a potentially harmful situation.

ahahahahahaha. ok not a laughing matter, but this made my day (the snacking part, obvi...not the hiding out in the bathroom)

we got in the frame shop at work, which happens to be quasi underground. i actually was happy i was at work, because that building is pretty rock solid and has been there since like, the 50s. i felt like it was safer than anywhere else i'd be.

At least four confirmed deaths in Bertie County, with dozens more unconfirmed according to their news station. I don't know why the local stations aren't covering that as a supplement to the local coverage. It sounds like the eastern part of the state was hit pretty hard, but I can't find much information on it.

It's not like I'm insulting people. I take things like this for granted too, as I said. It's absolutely normal, especially for younger people like us.

(and where is Bertie County? I'm dead serious... I've never heard of it. I assume it's nowhere close to Raleigh?)

Anyway, glad no one I know got hurt. We got lucky here considering 3/4 of a mile straight line is the part of S. Saunders that got hit VERY hard.

Oh, I'm not insinuating it should be covered in detail--just a mention, because their news station sucks. When Windsor was flooded pretty bad a few months back, that got covered pretty intensively, so I just expected a sentence or two on areas outside of the coverage area.
