went to the zoo yesterday Everything was taken with the telephoto that came with the camera (not a kit; I got said camera from ebay), and man, I can tell. These pictures were so terrible. I took 470; I have sorted through 344 of them, and have 12 worth uploading. And then shooting through safety glass doesn't help matters either Jvp, I just looked at your WY pics from the last page.1) Holy shit those are awesome2) Holy shit I hate you and want to be there[Edited on September 22, 2008 at 12:39 PM. Saw this on ScubaBoard -- http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/cave-diving/253823-ginnie-she-sure-purdy.htmlRight now the river levels in north Florida are up due to the recent tropical storms so the springs have slowed down due to the hydrostatic pressure of the increased river levels. Red (tannic) river water from the Santa Fe River is running over the crystal clear output of the Devil's Eye opening to the Devil's cave system at Ginnie Springs, creating this gorgeous scenery...

Your night shots are better than mine, did you use a tripod? What setting? All I see is some sharpening on your composition, your DOF is good IMO.What city do you live in? I'd have a field day with those photo ops!

ambrosia - what kind of cam were u using and how much was it on ebay?
9/23/2008 1:19:10 AM
^^I just moved to Brisbane, Australia. yeh, very nice place. Its just now turning into spring here so i expect things to green up and really come to life in the next month or so.For every semi-infocus night shot, i had 100 blurry shits. hah I don't yet have a tripod, but for the pic of the boat at night, i rested the camera on top of a fence post. This camera/lense doesnt have any image stabilization and its proving to be pretty challenging.I have a couple noob questions. When i was shooting at dusk and night, the pics came out much brighter/lighter than the actual night. Like in that boat pic, the sky looks dark blue, but it was pretty close to pitch black in person. Also a lot of my dusk shots turned out like bright, vibrant, sunny day shots. Is this the whole point? What if i wanted a real black looking night sky?Any tips for shooting in bright noontime sun? Is it best avoided? Almost all of my bright day shots were kinda overexposed and washed out.

I was at a store yesterday and in the sale bin they had an EOS Kiss Digital X for 54,800 yen. I think that's around $500 these days.Does anyone have experience with these cameras. Are these cameras worthwhile at all? Is that even a good price?
9/23/2008 5:18:55 AM
just bought a Canon EOS XSi with the 75-300mm lens (as well as the 15-55mm lens)getting a feel for it now...but...I JUST MOVED TO HAWAI'I!!!planning on taking mucho pictures!
9/23/2008 5:43:29 AM
haven't heard much of the kiss. i thought it was just a special version of the original digital rebel. which actually didn't have anything special about it. i dunno google it.
9/23/2008 7:20:30 AM
grrrrr -for 500 you should get yourself a d40, rebel XT or even look into pentax. 500 for an original rebel is too much
9/23/2008 2:23:35 PM
According to this, it's the name for the Japenese version of the XTi.http://www.dpreview.com/news/0608/06082416canoneos400drebelxti.asp

9/23/2008 8:16:24 PM
ah, i've seen the name kiss associated with an original digital rebel. guess its just one of those things that canon has too. just another name. why can't they just pick a friggin name! http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/thats the one i was thinking about.

I bought the Canon Rebel XTi about a year ago and really like it. I had used the film version of the Canon Rebel and had liked it, so that is a major reason I got it in the digital over other similar brands. As a whole I really like it though as it's fairly easy to tote but still does a whole lot for the price.
9/24/2008 10:00:01 AM
Bump...can't have this getting off the first page.

Sweet, got my photo pass to cover hurricane games at RBC this season! This is totally gonna be awesome. Probably going to their pre-season game Sunday to take some test shots to get a feel for the place. I'll end up taking my MF camera to knock out some school assignments as well.

COOL!

woah... just realized that Gregg Forwerck shoots for the Carolina Hurricanes. I remember reading about him last year on the Alien Bee's website for using their equipment. The guy is a big name in Baseball. Would be cool to meet him.

No clue why I like this shot so much. I just took it tonight when I was on my way in from doing some night/city pics. Total after thought but I like the dark grass and black background. Noob, I know.
9/25/2008 3:13:50 AM
I have got to learn how to take baller ass pictures like the ones in this thread.
9/25/2008 3:14:29 AM
simple, just make sure you have the "ass" and "balls" first, then add a "camera".
9/25/2008 3:25:28 AM
lol well played.

I completely forgot about this thread.anyway.on campus a few days ago:I keep saying to myself, "maybe I'll get the 70-200 2.8 next."then I look it up on bh and see the price tag and laugh.it's happened a few times.[Edited on September 25, 2008 at 5:11 AM. Reason : fsdfsd]

Doesn't matter; they're always out of stock anyway.
9/25/2008 9:47:47 AM
^^Considering the quality of the lens and how it is one of the more essential lenses, I think it is relatively cheap. If you don't get the VR, of course.
9/25/2008 10:47:25 AM
Oh I probably will end up getting it next, especially if I start doing more concert and sports photography, which it looks like I will be, shooting for the UM yearbook and a concert blog-esque site i've been in touch with. Unless I do the tokina fisheye 10-17 first, which is tempting.I'm just not grasping buying a lens that's twice as expensive as my camera quite yet especially since the equipment room on campus has one for free, but I can only get that for sports and not concerts, which will be the majority of my shooting.I'll probably take the plunge around christmas or later.the 85L is pretty sexy too but even more expensive, anyone have this one?[Edited on September 25, 2008 at 11:21 AM.
