what do yall think of the iskin cases?I was looking at this (the black one) without the screen cover. i have a similar case of this style (protects back and sides) by incase, but after 2 months the rubber is starting to tear around the headphone jack area. a waste of $texas

no no noI had something similar, but it was too hard to pull in and out of my pocket (thanks, non-slip surface!)Just suck it up and get a belt clip

I have googled to no end about this so maybe someone out there has a better idea. My wife just got her iphone and wants to access her work lotus notes email. Not the calendar or contacts, but just the email. I have researched inotes, but the network administrator needs to grant her access. Is there any work around other then forwarding it to gmail/yahoo or logging into web mail in safari? Thanks

Thats horseshit, I have it on a 3G iPhone as we speak and it fits perfectly. I think it looks pretty sweet. I got mine at the Oakley store in Crabtree.
3/3/2009 11:14:01 AM
I still don't understand why people bother with cases.
3/3/2009 11:15:58 AM
do what?
3/3/2009 11:17:17 AM
YOU HEARD ME
3/3/2009 11:23:23 AM
ya u i can read the words you postedthey just make no sense
3/3/2009 1:11:11 PM
i've always liked having a case on my phone, just gives me a little more sense of protection. Although the last couple phones i've had, i have ended up shedding the case after several months of use.I don't have a case on the iphone yet, just the clear screen protectors. I really want to try a case to deter much of the finger prints and because sometimes the phone feels a little slippery in my hand.
3/3/2009 1:13:22 PM
I need a case. I've already shattered two iPhone 3G's. Still haven't got a replacement for the latest mishap but I know i'll be getting a rubber case for it as much as I hate them.
3/3/2009 1:39:46 PM
i like hard plastic ones...mu current is hard plastic on the inside and leather wrapped around the outside.
3/3/2009 2:21:23 PM
first thing I did was buy a rubber sleeve cover for it, not even taking the chance.
3/3/2009 2:28:11 PM
even with a (not so good) case i got a tiny (like could barely see) dent near the silent-mode switch, and it resulted in the phone always being in silent mode. apple store dude gave me a hard time and would only replace the phone after i pushed the issue
3/3/2009 2:52:27 PM
if you've shattered two iPhones I think you need to reevaluate your daily routine
3/3/2009 2:52:37 PM
^haha well the first time it slipped out of my hand while i was trying to use it with one hand and carrying stuff with the other. Landed on concrete.the most recent time I had it in my fleece pocket which is kind of a shallow angled pocket...and I totally forgot about it as I was jogging across a busy street only to hear a sudden thud. I turned around and the iPhone was laying face up with a shattered screen. it literally just bounced out of my pocket But the good news is that it works normally. If you don't mind tiny shards of glass in your finger from time to time or staring at missing pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
3/3/2009 3:30:34 PM
yeah i busted my first one but it took two throws to a wall to get it to crack.i'm not convinced most of the cases would do a lot to prevent cracks in your cases though. i mean, the rubber ones might help..but the plastics ones are tight and are just going to transfer the shock straight to the phone. i'm sure they help some..they just aren't worth it to me.
3/3/2009 3:57:55 PM
mine has rubber bars on the back and a battery bigger than the phone's i've dropped it a couple dozen times and its straight...

haha when was that posted? HOW DO I MISSED SHITafaik, there isn't one currently. they had it up for a few weeks until people realized they were just streaming MP3s and the RIAA got pissed and made them take it down.so... until the iphone supports some sort of RIA framework (flash/silverlight/etc) or they come out with a dedicated app a la pandora and the like, i don't think it's gonna happen.sorry mang. seeqpod has a good iphone site though, which is rougly equivalent to project playlist (afaik)

I am liking the first turn by turn GPS program Available by X-Roads. I just downloaded it yesterday. Most of the negative reviews appear to have come from the first rev, which apparently was horrible. I used it on the way home yesterday. recalculated routes quickly, and vastly improved useability over the google maps. worth the $20 from what I have seen so far. They dont have voice prompts, because that is prohibited by apple, but the next release is going to ding when a turn is close.
3/4/2009 9:46:43 AM
bout to give Xroads a try
3/4/2009 10:48:59 AM
give me the of your top used games/apps...and indicate free or not
3/4/2009 11:23:09 AM
"bout to give Xroads a try"Dont get pissed at me if you dont like it I havent had much time to play. One thing I have noticed is that it doesnt work at all inside. Meaning it wont even use the cell locating ability to localize your position. After you install it, reboot.

cool, a kindle book reader for iphone http://www.macrumors.com/2009/03/04/amazon-releases-free-kindle-for-iphone-application/a while back i read a couple books on my iphone in microsoft word format and it was very pleasant. also have stanza but haven't used it that muchok just installed it. first thing i noticed was that to browse and purchase books it just redirects you to a non-iphone optimized amazon.com page in safari. and it would be nice if it came with like a free book or chapter already installed so people who are just downloading it to try it (like me) will be pulled in by the experience rather than looking around for a minute, seeing nothing of interest without putting in several minutes of effort and then leaving. not a great first impression.[Edited on March 4, 2009 at 11:47 AM. Make sure you have a car charger, then. You have to set the screen to never sleep, and I know the GPS antenna can eat some battery. Let us know how it works out. Be a nice real case try-out Hope you dont end up in BFE.
3/4/2009 12:49:04 PM
yeah I've got a cool ass cigarette lighter splitter w/USB port on it that I use to charge the iPhone..works great/fast as hell
3/4/2009 1:00:49 PM
well if I could get the damn thing to install I might could give an update.. first I didn't have enough space so I did a complete restore just because it needed to be done anyways (phone was getting slow as shit bc I had so much crap on it)now it keeps locking up about 3/4 of the way through installing it. I've tried downloading it directly on the phone and I've downloaded it in iTunes and had it try to install it to the phone.. gah.
3/4/2009 2:03:04 PM
I installed it through itunes. It took a LONG time to install. Maybe 30 minutes. I also thought it was locked up. So sync it, and leave it alone for an hour.
3/4/2009 2:19:32 PM
that totally sounds like it's not worth it, lol... especially if it lacks voice prompts.go spend $130 and get a mio moov 300. text to speech, lane guidance (sometimes), free map update in a month or so. it also has the best routing i've seen on any of the units i've tested.
3/4/2009 4:13:56 PM
I'll never buy another fucking thing from Mio.
3/4/2009 4:24:27 PM
Why spend $130 when you can spend $20? Everybody is hung up on the voice thing. Its nice to have, but I like having a single device. My phone will always be with me. If Im in someone else's car, and need to get somewhere, this application works well. I considered the google map fairly worthless and flat out dangerous if you are trying to drive while using it.There is no doubt a stand alone GPS is better, but this is a great start for an inexpensive solution for the iphone.
3/4/2009 4:42:50 PM
^^porque?^i'd rather spend $130 and get something that does everything i need than spend $20 and have to live with things i don't likeand text to speech is singlehandedly one of the most important features ever. i never knew how useful it was until i had it. you don't even have to pay attention, just listen to the thing.
3/4/2009 4:46:26 PM
You'd rather carry a GPS in your pocket and a phone?I dont consider it a fair comparison. There are numerous other applications that the phone does that are beat by stand alone tools/appliances. It doesnt mean the phone's secondary apps are worthless. Almost every doo-dab on an iphone is a sacrifice in one form or other. its that way on any thing that tries to do a lot of things good instead of one or two things really well.Hell, I'd need a phone, a voice recorder, a computer, and a GPS if I actually wanted full featured products for every feature. BTW: I have more invested in GPS units than 'probably' anyone on this board, so I actually can make a qualified statement.[Edited on March 4, 2009 at 5:00 PM. Reason : .]

I've had 3 different products from them and all of them sucked hard. One was a cell phone back in like 2004 and you couldn't hear anybody on and they couldn't hear you..they said it wasn't their problem and all of them were like that. I sold it on ebay and basically the person who bought it complained to paypal that i sold a defective product and paypal took the money back but I never got the phone back (fuck paypal btw). Next was a GPS unit I got for my brother after elnacho's constant ranting about how great they were.. it locked up constantly from the day he got it. I took it back to radio shack, got him a better model hoping that would improve things..it was locked up before I got to the interstate. Ended up trading again and got a Nuvi..not a problem since.I'd rather buy a cheapo garmin Nuvi (and I have-it has 40,000+ miles on it so far) than anything from Mio. I gave them a shot and don't really care what they come out with or what it costs, I won't buy anything else from them./rant[Edited on March 4, 2009 at 4:54 PM. Reason : a]
3/4/2009 4:52:27 PM
well damn i've always loved their products, never had a problem with my moov^^i have no need for turn-by-turn navigation in my pocket. all of the vehicles in which i drive are equipped with a navigation system of some sort.and don't even get me started on routing and IVN try getting motorola premiercad integrated with an IVN system and then we'll talk]

i have not seen it mentioned in this topic, i may have overlooked one of the 71 pages... but Last.fm for iPhone pwns Pandora big time. My new most favorite app. It even plays finds all my eastern bloc shit if i switch to cyrillic keyboard mode and correctly suggests similar stuff. ON TOUR NOW feature is a very nice touch too. I may be now attending a couple of upcoming shows in bmore that i would never otherwise guessed were coming there's a topic in Lounge on the desktop version of last.fm too[Edited on March 4, 2009 at 8:35 PM. 3/4/2009 8:34:16 PM
i prefer pandora...but mainly because that's all i use.i use it at work on my desktop, my phone, at home, on my laptop, on my sonos player... i never really saw what added benefit last.fm gave you besides listing everything you had played from your collection recently.

3/5/2009 1:03:42 AM
i gave pandora a chance, its a nice program (desktop and iphone) but you have to continue tweaking and monitoring its choices so often that it just becomes irritating. Not to mention there seemed to be 5-10 same songs that i would hear in the first 30 minutes of listening to a station every single time i turned it on. I've left slacker and last.fm both running for hours without hardly ever having to ban tracks and steer the playlists back on course. but this is not the thread for this debate, and to each their own.
