I am going to say it and I hope it doesn't get people telling me mean things but those pics that maximus and eleusis just posted left me with a little barf in my throat. What do these body builders look like when they stop lifting so much? Blobs? Kind of like after pregnancy?]
8/4/2011 5:10:27 PM
no problem with that - it's just a matter of personal preference. If everyone was looking for the same thing, the world would be a boring place.

I think youre exactly right regarding skinny women. I do think nothings worse then low self esteem so whatever floats their boats is in everyones best interest!
8/4/2011 6:28:38 PM
well, i mean there is that small population that think victoria beckham is a goddess, but i feel like the majority of men would ream kim kardashian or that chick from madmen before her --[Edited on August 4, 2011 at 6:36 PM. Reason : -->]
8/4/2011 6:35:20 PM
^^ Some of that is just differences in body types.^ for example, kim kardashian isn't going to look like victoria beckham with any sort of reasonable dieting or exercise. they are put together differently.* This isn't an excuse for fatties to be fatties. Also, yeah, you aren't going to look like an untested division bodybuilder at 200 lbs unless you're about 5'5"...but saying that it's impossible to have an impressive, well-developed male physique at <200 lbs is crazy. MMA fighters, Crossfit athletes, etc...you mean to tell me that the 180-190 pounders aren't fucking diesel?
8/4/2011 7:09:52 PM
Oh God, you just cited Crossfit athletes as an example of fitness in an argument with maximus. Duck and cover.
8/4/2011 7:11:46 PM

I'm hovering somewhere in the 10-12% bf range right now. Really trying to dial it down to single digits, but it's very slow going.Oh, but I only weigh 185 so it's not like it even matters.[Edited on August 4, 2011 at 7:25 PM. Reason : not $2 ]
8/4/2011 7:25:03 PM
^^^ There are huge differences all around, and I don't want to take anything away from any of them...but calling a 190 lb cage fighter scrawny is kinda ridiculous. Here I am at about 176-177 lbs in my shack in Afghanistan.and here's now at about 185-186 lbs.Neither one of those qualifies are ripped or really supports my argument--I'm not the specimen to prove the point (although the greater issue is that he's saying that Jay Cutler, Ronnie Coleman, Dorian Yates, and Ahnold look like they hit the gym even if they're dressed to go skiing...everyone else is a runt.)I'm mostly just being vain and posting pictures (although I do wish I could find a good picture of me back in college at low/mid 180s...it would really shame my current state). [Edited on August 4, 2011 at 7:29 PM. Reason : any guesses at my current BF %? I haven't had it checked in a long time.]

I didn't go to Muay Thai kickboxingI pulled up and it was kind of ghetto well, maybe more sketch than ghetto. And it was full of meatheads who pulled in wife beaters and basketball shorts... not exactly the environment I pictured.SO, I googled more places and instead of a kickboxing place I found a really interesting dojo. I have a one hour session with Master Lee tomorrow to try out taekwando I figured since I am looking for something both mentally and physically challenging, why not go full force and try to become a black belt? If this dojo doesn't seem right though, I am just going to continue looking around. Now I have my heart set on it!
8/4/2011 10:01:06 PM
Good dojos are hard to find for any traditional martial art. Way too many kiddie dojos out there that don't really focus on technique. If you see a lot of black belts there you should turn around and walk out, if you see any blackbelts under the age of 20 turn around and walk out..

Ran for the first time in over a month yesterday. good googly moogly it was tough. And the 96F temps didn't help, either, nor did the 100F heat index, lol. At it was 930 at night. jeez. But, feel better. glad I got through the run and made it almost 2 miles before I pussed out and walked a little. i. hate. fucking. running.oh, and the gym today wasn't half bad. I can increase my weights in several exercises Amazing what 2 a week will do verses 1 a week.
8/5/2011 12:05:48 AM
Yup, it's fairly amazing how fast you make gains when you first start or when you add a substantial workload difference. It's been a long time since I've actually hit the weights with any real seriousness. Mostly been cardio focused with this whole triathlon thing I'm doing, but it feels good to be back in the gym picking up heavy shit again.

weigh-in this morning = 266.0 lbI have kinda plateaued, but it's been too damn hot to ride my bike.(down 22.0 since 5/23)
8/5/2011 11:34:09 AM
LunaK and i were having a conversation this morning via PM about how hot it's been. i told her that i know running at 4pm everyday when its 100+ isn't the best idea but i keep telling myself that i'm probably burning more calories.
8/5/2011 12:03:06 PM
I think I have a different definition of ripped than maximus and eleusis. When I hear "ripped"...I think Brad Pitt in "Fight Club" or Ryan Reynolds in "Blade Trinity" (although Reynolds is a little bigger in his movie). So I definitely lean more towards the "cut" and "lean" body type than the "jacked up".I think you are "taking your physique seriously" by getting that type of body. You aren't lifting as heavily or as often...but you're probably doing more cardio and watching what you eat more (or at least differently).[Edited on August 5, 2011 at 12:32 PM. Reason : .]
8/5/2011 12:10:21 PM
Thanks for the advice guys I didn't think about the black belt thing, Kurtis... I'll keep an eat out.As for getting a hard body, I don't mind if it means gaining something as valuable as a black belt. And I know it would take a long time... but it would be so worth it! I'm not discouraged at all. If anything, all the comments like that or just being picked on for trying it make me want to succeed even more - so keep 'em comin OBC.... I resisted I actually was about to fall asleep while setting them up so I wont be playing with them full force til later. BUT I did take pics haha

8/5/2011 12:26:29 PM
Can I have Edward Norton? Brad Pitt looks like my stepdad But I agree with you
8/5/2011 12:35:33 PM
^^Agreed. Girls typically don't go for the huge guys. If they don't compete it pretty much shows they lift weights for the sake of lifting weights. What's the point? I'd rather be in all round good shape. I'm not killing bears or anything. Plus doing a cross-fit or bootcamp style work out where there's more cardio involved is much more fun and it doesn't feel pointless. Most people don't compete. They have normal lives and don't have time to waste body building. Do what's fun. If it's body building then the more power to you. Most people would rather do something a little more interesting and worth while. Paying to go stand in a room and lift pieces of metal for the sake of saying you can is one of the most unnatural things there is. I'd rather be out hiking, climbing, or biking. You stay in shape and you're actually doing something. /end rant[Edited on August 5, 2011 at 12:48 PM. Reason : s]

8/5/2011 2:45:02 PM
You're crazy. I'd fuck Hugh Jackman. Anyone who lifts and isn't obese is going to have vascular arms. The only issue I could see for some is it they crossed over to the chest like Sly Stallone.
8/5/2011 2:47:31 PM
I was comparing the two, the first Matthew McConaughey didn't have the veiny veins.
8/5/2011 2:51:25 PM
Point taken. Then again, Wooderson is on a whole nother level of attractiveness that Wolverine can't even hope to live up to.
8/5/2011 2:54:03 PM
oh and i'd still fuck hugh jackman, veins or no veins
8/5/2011 2:55:48 PM
the ideal build I see myself at is a lot bigger than what most people in here would ever strive for, but it's based on a combination of what I believe is ideal for my bone structure and metabolism. I'm never going to look like a Brad Pitt or a Matthew McConaughey, because my hip and rib cage structure is much bigger/wider than theirs. That, and I get a lot more satisfaction out of lifting weights as a personal competition than I do from cardio. When people like Quinn come in here saying "Guys that big work out for other guys", they have no concept of what drives people to extremes. I've never met a gigantor that gave a shit about what any other guy thought about them in the gym; they do what they do as a personal challenge with themselves. They may admire other bodybuilder's physiques, but only because it shows them what the human body is capable of and how high they can set their goals. However, there are plenty of larger guys in the gym that do it for the women. For all the people in here saying that women don't find big muscular men attractive, then why do Chippendale and Thunder down Under dancers weigh 210+ pounds and have chiseled out upper bodies with 6-pack abs?
8/5/2011 3:03:03 PM
I could be wrong here, but I don't think most women who go to see Chippendales or whatever even find that the most attractive body type. It's more kitschy entertainment than the equivalent of a strip club, where presumably the men go because they're turned on by the strippers.
8/5/2011 3:14:44 PM
I go to the male reviews because it's funny, like ^ said
8/5/2011 3:23:24 PM
