You can do that with the free version of Juice Defender. Turn off 3G and data unless the screen is on. Believe you can also set it to enable data every so often also.

Has anybody else experienced the Droid X problem where their app drawer is incredibly slow and jerky? Also, my phone has been getting REALLY varied signal for the past few days, ever since I used the one click root.I wonder if that had anything to do with it?
8/25/2010 3:15:19 PM
^^The vibrate/silent override SMS is a great idea. I have Prey, but I'm not entirely sure if you can make it ring. As far as the mobile data schedule goes, from what I've read it looks like you can do it on GSM networks quite easily, but since CDMA phones don't have a toggle/APN for mobile data you may need JuiceDefender installed and have Tasker pass an action to it.Profile for 2.1 and APNDroidhttp://tasker.wikidot.com/datacheckDiscussion of 2.2/CDMA alternatives to this problem (JD solution from above)http://groups.google.com/group/tasker/browse_thread/thread/bc6b40131ed09252?pli=1Apparently there's a CDMA toggle in the beta version of Tasker, but it's getting mixed results.--Trying to find the beta download, I stumbled upon the FAQ. Apparently it's cheaper (~$1.00 less) to buy direct instead of from the market. http://tasker.dinglisch.net/faq-ov.html[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 4:17 PM. Reason : ]

i've had to do a battery pull about a dozen times in the past 2 days...the screen is freezing on megetting pretty frustrated!
8/25/2010 4:18:24 PM
Oh and as far as the Icons go, basically if you saw a home screen with a bunch of custom icons -- they were just tasker widgets that do nothing more than a LoadApp function. So I guess that answers the app tray question too. =)http://tasker.dinglisch.net/tour.html seems to give a pretty detailed run-through.[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 4:54 PM. Reason : ]

So much for AMOLED screens being more efficienthttp://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/25/droid-x-and-2-dominate-battery-showdown-amoleds-struggle-mightily/
8/25/2010 5:38:08 PM
have yall played "Air Traffic"...it's kinda fun
8/25/2010 6:41:38 PM
^^Test is skewed as AMOLEDs use most power displaying whites and little to no power displaying blacks. Even admits it on the page.see: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2009/08/this-september-oled-no-longer-three-to-five-years-away.arsfound that in the comments of that article,AMOLED display used 330% the power to display white. Much less for anything else. It'd be interesting to see what the results are if there was a browser hack that inverted blacks and whites for the AMOLEDS. [Edited on August 25, 2010 at 6:47 PM. fyi, just got this today:
8/25/2010 7:14:12 PM
i 'applied' for that ... we'll see if i get an email like that too
8/25/2010 7:31:58 PM
didnt want to go surfing through the whole thread, but has anyone had any random reboot issues with the droid incredible? mine seems to want to turn off and on intermittently throughout the evening. (what little i've read, it may or may not have to do with a weak signal.) just got it about 2 weeks ago, so i dont think its a "first release" bug. any solutions to those who have had this issue?
8/25/2010 8:11:12 PM
those of you with custom ringtones for different contacts, does your phone ever get them mixed up and play the wrong ringtone?
8/26/2010 10:04:35 AM
^^Yeah I've had my Incredible randomly reboot a few times (maybe 8-10 and I've had it since launch). I haven't really pinpointed any certain thing that causes it though. *shrug*
8/26/2010 10:31:20 AM
^^all the freaking time. There was some guide online that suggested repathing the ringtones but it didn't help for shit. My droid can do all these amazing things but playing correct ringtones is too high of an expectation[Edited on August 26, 2010 at 11:07 AM. Reason : auto correct 0216]
8/26/2010 11:02:14 AM
Is it playing the default ringtone? I've noticed that sometimes the caller id doesn't pick up fast enough and it just plays the normal ringtone rather than the one assigned to the contact
8/26/2010 11:11:09 AM
no, let's say the default is Ringtone Acontact 1 is set to ringtone Bcontact 2 is set to ringtone Crecently, it's done things like play ringtone C for contact 1 and maybe vice versa
8/26/2010 11:12:43 AM
For the Incredible, I don't think it's a ringtone issue. I've had it happen completely separate from phone calls, just using apps or even being in my pocket a time or two.

Ok so I'm looking at trying out Android again with a Droid X or Droid 2. Hopefully the change to a fast processor and 2.1/2.2 will make a difference but I really miss the "fun" stuff now that I'm back on a BB. Anyway, is there ANY way to filter emails coming in? That's a HUGE advantage for me with BIS. Work email is through pop3 currently (switching to google eventually when I get the time to set everyone's computers back up at all our locations). I get 30-40 incoming emails a day sometimes and that drove me crazy before. Any solutions yet?
8/26/2010 11:09:33 PM
use filters in gmail or GAfYDlogin, setup your labels (folders), then setup your filters, so incoming mail gets flagged with a label and you can archive it into a seperate folder automatically. then it will do it automatically.on your phone just click menu -> go to labels and whala. it's always been like this. just think of labels as folders.[Edited on August 27, 2010 at 12:14 AM. 8/27/2010 12:14:08 AM
2.2 Lets you isolate email accounts so they don't all drop into one inbox. I think that is what you are getting at.
8/27/2010 2:39:39 AM
^^ I said that we're switching to Google apps EVENTUALLY. Immediately it's just pop3 so labels won't work.^ No, I mean that I don't want to get 1/2 or more of my work emails to my phone. Currently I have it set up so that I don't get any of my emails from listservs, promotions, some of my vendors, shipping notifications, and a few other filters as well. I'd prefer to just get what I NEED to get on my phone so that I'm not marking stuff as read every 5 minutes. Basically, I'd like some kind of filter or rule set up (mark as read if sender is "*@vendor1.com").

Anyone found a good case they like for the DX?
8/27/2010 9:19:34 AM
got a silicone case for like $4 after shippingit's hard to get it in/out of my pocket sometimes, but i lost a phone due to pocket slippage once, so i dont mind it
8/27/2010 10:04:29 AM
^^^did you try K9 mail?I think pop3 is part of the problem.
8/27/2010 11:12:57 AM
^^^I just got the moto case+holster and screen protectors... it works quite well for me. however, the idiots at motorola didn't make the case compatible with their vehicle mount... so that's sort of a pain. I guess I should try to get someone to dremel out that mount and see if I can get it to fit. who wants to try?[Edited on August 27, 2010 at 11:27 AM. Reason : ,]
