I think if you're doing any sort of quick drawing motion with a paddle holster you may not want one. I've seen guys after a good Hackathorn rip and grip looking down their holstered weapon at the target.

so what kind of owb holster are you recommending? just looking to see how my gun fits in an xd holster
1/19/2010 10:29:09 PM
What model XD's? As the XDm comes iwth aa basic paddle holster, and I have a FOBUS classic paddle for my XD9.

The XD9 I currently have has a OWB holster by Wild Bill's Concealment. They are out of Garner.http://www.wildbillsconcealment.com/shop/It's not bad.

http://www.xdpistols.com/category/738-Springfield_XD_Leather_Holsters.aspxI am always a fan of leather, especially slide holsters. However they have good polymer designs there too. If you really want a paddle holster, by all means, I'm just telling you I've seen a lot of shooters get rid of theirs after drawing the holster with the gun.

welp, concealed application has been submitted and fingerprints taken. The person at the Sheriff's office said she's seen them come back in about 4 weeks so here's hoping so. I hope to have it by the Dixie G&K show in Charlotte on the 20th
1/20/2010 3:16:59 PM
I admit, all 3 of my EDC type guns that I carry OWB are in Fobus paddle holsters. But then, I also have them carried on a heavy, correct width belt, not just pants tucked.

^^What county?Wake is really good about it - I've heard some really short wait times. In Durham, I was told that it will be 90 days. No more, no less, regardless of when all their checks are done. If it's done early, they hold it until 90 days. The sheriff hates concealed carry, and since the law allows him 90 days to approve/deny, he takes every day the law gives him - his office people directly said that. And the way they all spoke to me and looked at me when turning in the application, it was like I was asking for a permit to commit a crime I've got my calendar marked for day 91. I know some others in Durham who were pushed past day 100. Too bad when the sheriff breaks the law, there's not much you can do [Edited on January 20, 2010 at 3:45 PM. Reason : a]

Cabarrus County.the people here were pretty friendly, and fast. I was in and out in about 35-40 minutes

Durham county is run by cock gobblers.

Have you guys heard about the CMMG bargain bin M4 special?
1/21/2010 11:35:08 AM
yeah, it's been going on for a while. haven't heard any complaints.
1/21/2010 11:52:40 AM
$9.99 is still too much for a GI aluminum magazine.
1/21/2010 1:09:24 PM
Palmetto State Armory had a sale a little while ago -- I think it was 10 PMags for ~$100.
1/21/2010 4:14:03 PM
^^ I've got stacks of used mags if you want some free. They are heavily used though.

This has probably already been answered in this thread, but I have a few questions:I live in oregon and want to take up deer hunting. My dad wants to send me his Winchester's Model 70 from NC. First, can he legally ship this to me? Secondly, do I need to register it and how would I go about doing that? If anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be great. Thanks!
1/21/2010 5:36:38 PM
Shipping it to you would depend on Oregon law, not NC law, possibly with some Federal thrown in as well.I doubt there is any kind of registration as well, though I don't know much about the laws there.[Edited on January 21, 2010 at 5:43 PM. Reason : .]
1/21/2010 5:42:59 PM
No registration, but would have to ship to an FFL since it's inter-state.

Anyone looking to get rid of an AR lower?
1/21/2010 9:58:19 PM
I got 3 stripped lowers if you want one. Two are spikes tactical with the red/white painted bullet pictograms, similar to the below. The other is a CMMG MOD4SA. All are stripped and have never been assembled. Shoot me a PM with an offer if you want.
1/21/2010 10:44:01 PM
PDHSC has stripped lowers on sale too (didn't look at them, but the price didn't seem too bad)
1/21/2010 10:52:07 PM
Not to sounds stupid, but what do you do with a lower?
1/21/2010 10:56:46 PM
Put in a parts kit, add a stock, add an upper, and you have a rifle.
1/21/2010 10:59:03 PM
Would that be cheaper than buying a complete rifle?
1/21/2010 11:03:28 PM
Not normally. If you are looking for something specific or like to do things yourself, you can pick up all the pieces individually and assemble them yourself. Another reason is to spread out the cost over a longer period of time. You can buy complete lower from $275-$400 and complete uppers from $475-$$$.Assembled LowerComplete LowerAssembled UpperComplete UpperCompleted[Edited on January 21, 2010 at 11:14 PM. Reason : .]

Thanks for explaining. I am new to the rifle side. Also stuck to the pistles.
1/21/2010 11:26:03 PM

1/22/2010 12:52:36 PM
haha yeah, I was just bustin ballsaaaanyway- what is the consensus on the Taurus TCP?I really do like all their new compact/subcompact/pocket pistols, but that one in particular stands out to me- just curious how it compares to the LCP and Keltecs
1/22/2010 1:20:45 PM
Shot show reviewer says it has a trigger reset similar to a glocks. That is the extent of my knowledge.Anyone here ever assembled a lower before?LPK, BCG, and charging handle are inbound for my build.
1/22/2010 3:20:29 PM
i'm pretty sure fumbler or jcashfan could help yaif you pm SpyderJHB I know he has experience with it, but he gets on only every now and then, but if you do and let me know, I can tell him to check his pm- he loves sharing any gun knowledge he can
1/22/2010 4:49:06 PM
I put my lower together from a DPMS parts kit, Geisselle SSA trigger group, mil-spec buffer tube and magpul CTR stock. What's your question?
1/22/2010 5:29:10 PM
1/22/2010 6:02:35 PM
you should be able to get a lower for about $80 from bushmaster or rra. $250 would get you one like the one I posted a picture of a few pages back from Spikes tactical or a lower from LWRC or the like (note that lower from a piston gun has no piston parts and is completely compatible with any other AR-15).Spikes has lowers that are around $80 too.
1/24/2010 12:22:37 PM
Whoops -- you said complete lowers, I was thinking stripped lowers, sorry!
1/24/2010 12:43:49 PM
I've got a Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T and for the life of me can not find replacements for the little screw covers that protect the adjustment knobs on the sides - Does anyone know if these have a specific name or where I might find them. I actually only need one. Thanks!
1/24/2010 1:07:39 PM
I'm looking at a Sig P238 - does anyone own this gun \ have any reviews? I'm seeing mixed reviews online.

1/24/2010 6:10:30 PM
Thanks. I'm going to be picking up the Magpul CTR stock and mil spec buffer tube soon, but need to wait till Feb for that purchase. I'm trying to do one major part a month.I have the upper receiver, bolt, charging handle, LPK, and Lower (getting from mcaflo) so far. Gas block, gas tube, barrel will be after the stock, and then the rail and optics will be last.
1/24/2010 7:23:30 PM
I've never really assembled an AR before from scratch (disassembled and reassembled plenty though) and I live in Alabama, otherwise I'd be happy to help. These days I'm much more familiar with the AK package than the AR anyway, anyone have questions there I'll be happy to field them.
1/24/2010 7:26:14 PM
1/24/2010 7:39:49 PM
Yeah I was hoping to avoid the high price I'm sure they'll ask if possible
1/24/2010 10:34:19 PM
^what you up to? Want to hit up PDHSC some time this week or next?
1/25/2010 1:03:42 AM
Sounds good, I need to find some .40 first. I'll give you a peek at what my company's been working on. You'll like it.
1/25/2010 8:35:44 AM
^You know I got that covered. Just tell me how much you need.
1/25/2010 10:46:21 AM
shot my buddy's Walther PPK the other day, neat little gun. DA pull was long but the SA was crisp with practically no reset. Purt damn accurate too, hit 4" steel at 25 yards every time. I'll be honest, it was pretty cool shooting a gun that had "Made in W. Germany" stamped on the slide as well
1/25/2010 11:25:51 AM
Both my sig 225 and 228 have made in west Germany stamped on them.
