you're correct that the way the VC is set up is one extreme, its called the vertex of the price/profit curve.

hey if you actually paid attention in this thread you could probably apply for Economics 101 credit through the university

Since this was at the bottom of page 68, I'll repost it:

Quote :
"Nintendo clearly has the advantage when it comes to the library of games available for release, but I'd like to see them step up in areas MS rules. Xbox Live Arcade games have online play and enhanced graphics. On top of that, the Wii might have to settle for inferior ports of arcade games while the 360 gets a (mostly) arcade-perfect port.

The most obvious examples of this are TMNT: The Arcade Game and Street Fighter II Turbo (although the 360 port of SFII is reportedly shitty). In some cases the home version released years ago is actually an improvement (like Contra), but that's the exception. Xbox Live users can d/l the four-player, arcade version of TMNT for the same price that Wii owners would pay if the inferior, two-player version on the NES were rereleased. And if we're only going to get an emulated game, Nintendo should make online play via the VC titles part of their online scheme. Homebrew emulators have been doing this for years and there's even a basic matchmaking service available."

Another good example of the arcade version/port problem is Donkey Kong. Nintendo released the NES version which is missing an entire stage.

I also agree with this:

Quote :
"I happen to think the current price points are close to perfect for the AAA titles that most people want to buy. (Excepting the n64, I think it should be 8 like snes) The problem is all the shovelware titles that are sitting at the same price point."

I mean, Urban Champion for $5? C'mon.

And then there's the fact that some games appeared in compilations on the GC, which is probably why Mega Man games have yet to make an appearance and precisely why $8 for Sonic the Hedgehog is a ripoff.

Exactly. For the price of any 2 genesis games, you can get the cube sonic collection or the collection that came out last year on ps2/xbox that had almost every notable sega game.

and since we're posting what we have:
I have:
Bomberman '93
Gunstar Heroes
Kirby's Adventure

I might buy:
Kid Icarus
SNES Castlevania

I will def buy when they are released:
Star Fox 64
Donkey Kong Country 2

Basically I'm using it to get things I don't actually own on carts. When the snes rpg's start rolling out though, I'll probably pick up copies of secert of mana/chrono trigger/earthbound.

surprise surprise, a product manager for xbox is talking shit about competitor who is outselling him right now.

but to a certain extent, i agree. all i want is something to entertain me and have enough decent games so i wont be bored. im not serious about gaming at all....maybe thats why ive had no interest in video games until the wii came out.

i am not an xbox person at all. i've had all the nintendos except the gamecube. i have a ps2 and a ps3. the ps3 is very rarely used. i use the ps2 for lego star wars but as soon as that's on wii i will drop it. i spend most of my time on the wii. my brother has an xbox and i don't like it. the menu/layout makes no sense whatsoever, and the only game [of his] that i kinda like playing is burnout revenge (burnout 3 of ps2 was better). the xbox controllers suck too.

so, i don't think the xbox customer and the wii customer are the same type of customer...but as for that age 14 comment, that's just tacky. sounds like some one is jealous to me. i've played video games as far back as i can remember, still play them regularly on consoles and the computer, and i'm 24 and work fulltime.

ive had all the major systems as well. ive gotta ask a few things though...
1) what the hell does the menu layout have to do with your gaming experience?
2) the xbox had its issues, but the 360 is a marvel. it really has one of the best controllers of all time.

i've got a wii and 360 now and, while both are fun, there just isnt a decent enough library for wii. anyone spouting off how the wii has changed their lives is just as full fo shit as the ppl who got a 360 right off the bat. the 360 is the only system right now with the online capabilities and library to be worth it to most gamers (unless you really like VC games, but 360 has plenty of good arcade games as well).

have you guys tried asking the sales clerks at walmart?

i know you might be afraid of a little social confrontation but they get paid to answer your questions.

last time i asked they had four and there was not a single hint of it in the display case.

Im not trying to get one, seems like there are very few on here still trying to find one, i am just interested in the economics of it all.....i will probably get a 360 after the price drop, then a wii after next x-mas when the prices drop and the game lineup is a little beefier

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/final-fight-and-street-fighter-ii-turbo-coming-to-virtual-consol/

This is a great example of the arcade vs. home version problem with VC. The SNES version of Final Fight is a shitty one-player game without Guy, arguably the most popular character from the arcade version. Meanwhile SFII Turbo gets inferior SNES sound and graphics (which were impressive at the time). Both of these games can be found in Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1 on the Xbox and PS2.

1. ergonomics are important to me.
2. i'm talking about xbox360 when i said xbox.

look, i don't care what you say, i don't like xboxes. i love my ps2 and my wii. i don't like nor do i play games like halo and gears of war where each of the 30 million buttons does one specific function. i like a stick/dpad, a jump button, and a fire button.

i like that you have to get involved to play a wii game. i like that it's exercise, however mild. i htink it's cool that the remote works on the screen. i don't give a shit about how real or unreal the graphics are.

i pick wii over ps3 and xbox[360], and we can argue all day long over this if you'd like but you're not changing my mind. i'm not that type of gamer.

I know this isn't a Wii question, but I figured it was the best place....

Can someone explain to me why the DS is in short supply? How long has that been out? What is the actual price supposed to be? Is this a sign that Nintendo either likes to operate for long periods of time with short supply, or that their manufacturers are not adequate?

The DS Lite has been out since last summer. The Suggested Retail Price is $129.99. The supplies vary depending on what stores you're talking about. Here in Greensboro, Targets have a decent supply of Black & Pink ones (thanks to the ads on Sunday). The same goes for Best Buy, however Gamestop/EB keeps selling out since we only get 3 of each color when we get them (once every 1-2 weeks).

I went to play my Wii yesterday and the LED light wasnt on anymore. I traced the power cord ot the wall outlet, tested the outlet: no problem.
But still cannot get any power to my Wii (its only been used for ~month or so).

Anybody else have their power kick on them? Im pissed, all the other appliances in the same surge protector were fine.

As I've stated a half dozen times in this thread, and at least that many in others, it's never necessary to pre-order a game. The only notable exception was wii play, and that's only because it came with hardware. Any other game, you'll be fine.

Actually some niche games do have enough of a following to warrant a preorder, since a store might not get enough copies to accommodate the demand. Super Paper Mario clearly isn't a "niche" title, but still.
