pilgrimshoes, I agree that raising on the flop, or even turn, would have told you if you were beat. Knowing nothing about the other two players, I have to lay it down. Madragan is likely chasing, considering he's called every bet so far and was in the BB. Tokkenu on the other hand looks like he's value betting given the growing size of the pot.His small raise on the flop is the kicker. I'd say he was trying to get more money in the pot at that point. The turn and river bets are much bigger, but I've done the same thing with big hands before. If you feel like your hand is unbeatable in a big pot, bet big and you'll probably get paid off.If you have good reason to think Tokkenu is a fish, you might justify a call. As it stands, Madragan has a slim chance of having a better hand and Tokkenu is certainly betting like he's got you. Fold and hope Madragan calls so you find out what the hell he was playing with.I have Tokkenu on a straight. FOLD.

Ok so I am still an idiot. Can someone explain what 'sit and go' means? I thought this was just a normal table with blinds that don't go up. You sit and play, and when you are done, you case out and go. I don't get what a sit and go tourney is or how the blind structure and payout works.
1/3/2006 1:55:06 PM
A sit and go is a tournament that starts whenever it fills up. So, if it is a 180 person sit and go, it starts whenever 180 people register, there is no set time when it begins. There are also single table sit and goes, so whenever the table fills up, the tournament begins. You get chips, for your buyin just like a normal tourney and there are blinds that go up. It is not a cash game and you can not cash out at any time.

pilgrim it's so hard to be sure with crazy online players, but since you can't get a physical read on them i like to play on the safe side, i probably would've raised the flop to test the waters, would've laid it down to a big reraise, and would've either checked or bet a relatively small feeler bet on the turn if he only called the flop and checked the turn, but what do i know

i love it when its easy. JK suited, I limp in with the big and small blind. (.1/.25)flop: 89T rainbowchecks aroundturn:QMr. BB obviously has a jack, and feels invinceable, so he bets a dollar. I raise him to 5 because I know hes not going to let go of his percieved split pot. He calls, and is committed to the hand. Blank on river(7), he bets 5. I put him allin... he calls(J3). easy money.I know everybody likes to talk strategy, but when its this easy, I like to tell people.

1/5/2006 9:38:38 PM
I know someone was talking about aggressive play on the bubble. Well tell me what you do here. 4 people left in a tournament, you and another guy have 80% of the chips in play. You are the big blind, he is the small blind. You are dealt A8 of spades, the SB calls the blind.Question 1: Do you raise with a marginal hand against a guy who has been calling EVERYTHING?The flop comes 8D 7S 4S, giving you top pair, top kicker with a flush draw. SB checks, you bet out 800 (BB is 400, thus the size of the pot.) My stack is about 3200, his is about 3300 before the hand starts. He reraises to 1600. What do you do here? A call virtually committs you to the pot with over half your chips in. But how do you get away from top pair, top kicker, and the nut flush draw?I went all in, he calls with 44. I hit my flush on the turn, he boats up on the river. This put two people who were about to be blinded out in the money. Do you make the same move?

Another thursday, more shitty poker. I'm basically embarassed to post how poorly I played this shit, and I always know after the fact how I should have played them, but I want to see you guys reaffirm it.Tourney style, started with 6 people and $100 in chips...blinds were at 1/2 for awhile, then to 2/4 for a bit and then someone thought it was smart to move to 5/10. So we are there and will be for quite a few more hands I imagine. Two guys gone already, dealer to my right has probably ~160, BB to my left probably has ~170, guy after him probably has $55 and limps in (which he does a lot), the dealer limps in which is something he had been doing fairly regularly himself though he wasn't really a call station, just didn't mind playing loose to see a flop. Now somewhere along the way, I have developed this really dumb idea that I'd rather try and make a move early rather than have my chips just leak away waiting for a perfect hand. That is, I fear that hand will never come and I'll have wasted my time, even though when I played a lot a year ago I was fine with this and on the average I would usually hit this hand eventually and be able to keep hanging on...next week I'll be back to this logic again, but tonight I wasn't. So anyway, I had about 80 in chips to start the hand, definitely not time to start making drastic moves yet. But, I felt with all these guys limping and me holding A5 offsuit I could probably have a decent shot to win if I could get heads up on someone pre-flop . This is very wrong thinking, correct? I should have just limped in myself right? So anyway, I raise up to $40, which got the BB to fold and he was holding pocket 7s, guy to his left folds, dealer calls. Flop comes 48A rainbow. Dealer bets out $30. At this point I felt based on how he had played before he probably hit on his ace and probably had a better kicker and I was most likely beat. There were a few times where he really just played shit, but I didn't think about it until after the hand that he had only done that when he had made it to the river and he thought he could steal a pot. Had I folded at this point I would have been down to $40 in chips, which realistically speaking I should have just tried to grind it out from here to get the practice from playing that far behind (I fucking need it). So anyway, it was late, I pused it all in, he called, flips over his AQ and won the hand.

This is retarded. So for 2 weeks I have played the shittiest poker ever in live games. I get a pokerstars account, the first thing I do is sit down to a 27 300+20 sit n go PLAY MONEY and runner up the bitch. When it went heads up the guy had 29k to my 10k in chips. After a few hands I get J9 suited and double the big blind from the small blind. He all ins. I know I am probably dominated based on how he played most of the tourney but I didnt' feel like trying to really work him (I think I could have) and sure enough he flips over bullets. I almost sucked out a straight which would have been pretty funny.Anyway.

Mike D (who some of you may know from my old home games in Raleigh) is here visiting for a bit in Vegas. We went to play the $1k tourney at Bellagio Friday night... 64 players, top 9 paid.We both get off to a very good start, and we're both a little above avg. most of the way for the first 4 hours or so. Anyway, with 15 players, and only $300/600 blinds, 50 ante, he gets all in with QQ vs. 77 for his $20k or so in chips! (He had the idiot with 77 covered by about 3k) Of course, you know a 7 hits the river, and he's completely crippled and out a few hands later. Such a damn shame, he's either chip leader or right there with the chipleader if he wins the hand. 5 minutes after he's out, I look down to KK in the small blind (now $400/800 blinds, 75 ante). I have about $10k in chips, below avg, but still a workable stack. Utg raises to $2,500, I push from the sb, and he calls with TT. And of course, a T is the door card (first card we see on the flop). So instead of both of us having very good stacks going into the final table, we're both out a few spots before the money on 80/20 preflop all-ins.The field was relatively easy... "Minneapolis" Jim Meehan was the only real "name" pro playing... incidentally he ended up bubbling for 10th. The format is great (40 minute levels, $5k in chips, starting with 25/50 blinds), and so you have a lot of time to pick up chips off the bad players (mostly satellite winners). I had 4 big pairs all day, KK, QQ, QQ, and JJ. You saw what happened with my KK, and once when I had QQ, Mike D had AK, and I had to check/fold it on a K23 flop. The other time with QQ, I ran into a short stack's AA. And the one time I had JJ, I called a raise preflop really early in the tourney, only to fold it to a big bet on a 9QK flop. So I lost all 4 times I had those big hands... and yet I would've still been in great position in the tourney if my KK held up against TT. I was never involved in any coin tosses whatsoever, and the only time I ever had MY whole stack at risk was on that final KK vs. TT hand.Oh well, back to the online tourney play on sat and sun... (how can I not after clearing $25k online in the last week?? )PS - CONGRATS, BEN, on the PL OMAHA tourney win![Edited on January 7, 2006 at 7:31 AM. Reason : ps]

after about 90 min I am up about 600 and then like 3 people leave the table. So a little hungry, i leave too and go to see the ncsu lowlights(no comment)Ive eaten and I am going back. Won a big hand after calling a 3x bb raise from this dude that raised every other hand with 8h9h and flopping a straight and a gutshot straight flush draw. I basically won about half on that handotherwise the table was tight as hell. It reminded me of the bubble time during a tourney. For the first like hour i swear we saw like maybe 5 flops
1/7/2006 5:30:20 PM
looking for a little discussion here:6 left in a small tourney, top 4 cash. I have the 4th biggest stack with the two shorts covered by about 2.5 rotations i guess. huge stack limps utg, i'm next with 66. i bumped it up bb (shortest stack) pushes in for like 100 more, and utg calls, i call also. flop brings 1 over card, utg checks to me, i bet about 2 bb, he min raises, i push all in for like 1bb more on top (didn't like it, but kinda pot committed myself by this point, especially since I felt he was capable of making this play without a pair)i have decided that either a fold or limp in is a better preflop play than the raise since big stack has already shown interest, and the raise + continuation puts in too much of my stack with a really marginal hand. i guess i would just limp if i could do it over, but a straight fold doesn't look like a terrible play either, what do you guys think?
