canceled the open meeting to move it behind doorsrepublicans are complicit
3/24/2017 12:07:54 PM
I saw several people report the WH thought Comey on Monday was going to cometely absolve the Trump WH. They had no idea what was coming and it's fairly obvious Nunes didn't either since they are obviously closely communicating. Cancelling the open hearing next week is so obviously done as damage control. It's like he is purposefully suiciding his own commission.
3/24/2017 12:19:48 PM
There was a ton of Republican defense of Nixon until it got to the absolute last point where they couldn't defend him any longer.I guess we're seeing this with Trump now.Except, this Russia stuff is far worse than the Watergate situation. That was a crime, to be sure. This is very much within the boundaries of treason.
3/24/2017 12:39:33 PM
I'm still wondering if this was all a cheap distraction to buy a week or two of maneuvering and obfuscating for Trump?
3/24/2017 12:42:04 PM
Distraction makes sense. Nunes being "alarmed" by anything he saw is proof he doesn't belong on this committee. What the hell are his credentials that put him on an intel committee to begin with?My take is this:1) He received information from the White House, possibly anonymously, and then ran to the White House to say "look, Trump's name isn't masked," even though the information itself was collected legally and was not directed at Trump (that is, the information was a result on spying on foreigners).2) He received information from NSA/FBI and then ran to the White House to say "look, Trump's name isn't masked," even though the information itself was collected legally and was not directed at Trump (that is, the information was a result on spying on foreigners).Either one of those details three facts:1) Trump/Aides information was discovered via spying2) That spying was legal and was not targeted at Trump/Aides3) Nunes does not appear to want this investigation to move forward or is at the least trying to delay itMy guess: GOP is trying to do several things before the seemingly inevitable fall of Trump & Friends:1) Pass legislation such as the health care bill while they have a moron in office who will sign whatever they send.2) Strategize for how the fuck they'll handle the midterms (it's here I think they are actually hurting themselves bad by being so against these investigations).3) Strategize for how to either distance themselves or blame Democrats for the Trump/Russia thing (at least from a political spin perspective as it relates to future campaigning).[Edited on March 24, 2017 at 1:06 PM. Nunes refused to deny that the intelligence that he received about the the incidental surveillance being collected and shared didn't come from the white house itself. The white house probably provided that intelligence so that Nunes could then make his big show of things

Who gets unfettered access to the WH grounds but isn't part of the executive? Because Nunes met with his "source" on the WH grounds and has yet to categorically deny his source is actually the White House.Odd.
3/27/2017 10:31:55 AM
was that when he jumped out of the uber?:
3/27/2017 11:51:11 AM
In all seriousness Nunes probably isn't a terribly smart guy. I don't think he did anything terrible aside from haphazardly try and give Don a cover for his impulsive lies.
3/27/2017 12:12:17 PM
he absolutely got played

It is beyond compromised. We need an independent investigation!

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-03-27/devin-nunes-explains-his-white-house-visitThis is more in-depth and it does make it seem like some handling of information was disseminated improperly perhaps. Also keep in mind this particular BB view columnist is very obviously pro-Trump.
3/27/2017 12:54:03 PM
That any unmasking was improper is a pretty big assumption by Nunes.
3/27/2017 1:26:28 PM
other reports have said that everything was masked, but that there was enough context left in that you could still tell who it was^^that read pretty fair to me

Nunes scraps all Intelligence Cmte meetings this week. Dude is guilty AF. Time to call ol' Dick Burr again, I guess.
3/28/2017 9:15:30 AM
In all honesty, these dumb committees are all for show anyway. Devon Nunes is a hack who is acting quite odd but if anything illegal happened it isn't going to be him who breaks it.

3/28/2017 10:59:49 AM
In other words if something actually illegal went on there is an independent FBI investigation already going on.For show was a bad choice of words as it is important to provide PUBLIC oversight but just because Nunes is protecting the WH from this particular committee doesn't mean they are protected from other oversight and legal issues.

If you follow any NatSec experts (who are probably only marginally more trustworthy than the Trump team) they seem to think the most likely is that Trump's team was intercepted talking to foreign leaders who would have been surveilled regularly and that the only unmasked names would have been for those that had intelligence relevance (Nunes even admitted this). Also, this only became an issue because, shocked, Trump's transition team broke precedent and worked outside of state department for reaching out to foreign leaders.[Edited on March 29, 2017 at 8:11 AM. 3/30/2017 1:29:56 PM
Right wing media is going nuts over this Farkus(sp?) interview on MSNBC that took place earlier this month. Anybody think that has any credibility? They are basically saying that it is an admission that intelligence officials unmasked Americans that were recorded during routine and lawful surveillance of Russian diplomats, and then unlawfully leaked the unmasked names to others.
3/30/2017 1:51:54 PM
It's possible. There was concern about losing evidence and focus on the Russia/Trump stuff so it actually wouldn't surprise me if people unmasked certain names in an effort to keep the media's focus on it long enough to build up enough support for an investigation. Flynn wouldn't even have resigned if it hadn't been for the media rightfully pursuing it and considering how against this shit Republicans have been, people were likely fearful that the GOP would just allow this to be covered up so they could fuck with people's health care.^^that's a good article to read. I have to ask an honest question - were Democrats against investigating both the Benghazi thing and the Hillary Email Server to this degree? If they really were, I guess I can understand the GOP giving them a taste of their own medicine. But I honestly don't recall Democrats causing this much trouble in an investigation. The GOP is basically like "shit our President might have committed treason and a bunch of his friends probably did but we care more about fucking people out of health insurance than that."[Edited on March 30, 2017 at 1:59 PM. it was really easy for trump to move the goalposts for the mediaregarding the unmasked names, that is only nunes, other reporting was that they were masked. also he says trump associates, trump associates could be foreign in which case i'm not sure its normal to mask them
3/30/2017 2:13:53 PM
yea that's what i was also thinking. they typically keep an american's name unmasked if it's either very obvious who it is or if it's necessary to understand context
