I don't really want Doeren to leave at this point, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if he did.
11/28/2017 1:33:08 PM
Noway DD would leave for Tennessee. Its basically a lateral move at this point, and their fan base is even more psychotic than ours. Only way he would go is if they opened up their checkbook super wide.
11/28/2017 1:58:28 PM
Doeren is basically Butch Jones
11/28/2017 2:09:26 PM
It'll be gundy. He's gonna beat the axe at OSU and get paid in doing it
11/28/2017 2:09:48 PM
Gundy has got the perfect mullet for this job. Its literally a match made in heaven.
11/28/2017 2:26:40 PM
i've generally defended doeren here. but good lord that'd be a hell of an underwhelming hire for tennessee. very little about him would get tennessee fans excited imo.if gundy was interested from the start, what the fuck was tennessee ever doing talking to schiano?[Edited on November 28, 2017 at 3:29 PM. Doeren's just rtying to leverage a contract extension. Which is smart since this might be the best season we have for the next 4 years.
11/28/2017 3:38:05 PM
yeah but it also could be the worstnahmean
11/28/2017 3:46:13 PM
didn't he already get two contract extensions this year?
11/28/2017 3:47:50 PM
2? no. he get an auto-extension of 1 year for winning 8 games. which extends him, i think, to 2020. they are currently negotiating a separate extension.
11/28/2017 4:04:40 PM
perfect time to make the leap up to the next level when you are showing promise and losing your first full class. i called this a long time ago
11/28/2017 4:19:22 PM
Lol. There is nothing "next level" about Tennesee Earl. Get with the program.
11/28/2017 4:26:47 PM
Muh fellow Vawls fans aren't too keen on the idea of following up an 0-8 season with the only guy to ever lead State to an 0-8 season.

ITT 0 national championships= 6 national championships

Exactly, we're a football powerhouse, we don't want some retread from the ACC. Aren't they a basketball conference? We need someone with pedigree like Bill Belichick. Not sure why David Cutcliffe would turn us down though. I guess basketball natties count the same as our 20th century football natties.[Edited on November 28, 2017 at 7:50 PM. Reason : dook]

11/28/2017 10:29:41 PM
Are you douches seriously OK with getting rid of DD right now? dumb. We finally have some success this year, and our recruiting shows it. If we lose DD this year, we lose all these recruits, and we lose all the momentum we would have had going into next year. Whether you think DD is a good coach or not, losing him this year would set us back 5 years. If he is gonna leave, its better if he leaves in another year or 2. This is a reloading year, and we need this recruiting class- otherwise we are DOA.
11/28/2017 10:33:42 PM
Unless the incoming coach can do better with this talent and actually produce better results with better recruiting.BRING HOME LANE
11/28/2017 10:49:06 PM
Gundy turned it down according to Brett McMurphy tweet
11/28/2017 11:14:48 PM
11/28/2017 11:59:46 PM
I’d seriously be happy if he were to leave for another jobhire a legitimately good coach and the “but momentum” argument goes out of the window. it’s also absurd to believe that it would set the program back 5 years. [Edited on November 29, 2017 at 12:21 AM. Reason : .]

I never said anything about firing Doerena good coach would be able to coach up a roster that they didn’t have as much of a hand in well enough during their transition year. they then would be able to recruit for a full season. an easy answer to your good coach question is Kevin Sumlin, as well as coordinators throughout the country.
11/29/2017 1:16:40 AM
Haha your dream coach is a guy who's peak is 8-5 (4-4) at an elite program.
11/29/2017 1:28:45 AM
If Doofus could build a program, recruits would like the program, not the boring coach. Same reason we fired Butch, for an 0-8 Doerenesque season.
11/29/2017 1:49:30 AM
I would 100% trade Doeren for SumlinWould I get frustrated and want Sumlin fired in 5 years? Maybe, but that's 5 years from now, not 1, like the current situation will be.[Edited on November 29, 2017 at 2:06 AM. Reason : to be fair, Doeren leaving probably means Finley+Hines are gone, and we'd blow next year. maybe 4yrs]
11/29/2017 2:03:52 AM
The sumlin love is more of a head scratcher than the Les Miles love. Theres really no chance for Sumlin to recruit the type of team here that he's going 8-5 with at A&M. He's taking top 10 talent and consistently going 8-5. NC State was the 42nd most talented team this year. Sumlin would most likely fail to reach 8 wins at NC State. https://n.rivals.com/news/rivals-top-50-recruiting-teams-of-the-past-five-yearsI don't think anyone could bring in top 10 recruiting classes consistently here without sustained success first. He has outrecruited Clemson and that has everything to do with Texas A&M have elite level resources. I'm not sure why you would want a coach with a proven 8-5 peak anyway. Thats why he just got fired. We need a coach who can do more with less not a coach who is proven to do less with more.[Edited on November 29, 2017 at 2:14 AM. Reason : gotta build slow]
11/29/2017 2:12:00 AM
42nd most talented team, 45th in S&P+Sounds like Doeren is our Sumlin
11/29/2017 5:32:41 AM
11/29/2017 7:36:59 AM
Eh, context matters a bit here. The SEC makes up 6 of the top ten "most talented" teams according to rivals. Texas A&M is 5th of 6th on that list, including 3 division rivals ranked ahead of them they have to play every year. Compare that to Clemson who only has FSU ahead of them in the talent gap. All that being said, I don't know if Sumlin would be an upgrade over DD, nor do I want DD to leave for Tennessee.
11/29/2017 8:12:06 AM
i don't get the sumlin love either
11/29/2017 8:42:37 AM
Sumlin would be at least as good as Doeren. Maybe better when he recruits a stud QB.
11/29/2017 8:51:56 AM
Think people give Sumlin too much credit with the recruiting. Recruiting at A&M really isn't the problem, it's production. It's like UF, anyone who goes to that school is going to recruit really well because of all of the in-state talent.
11/29/2017 9:06:22 AM
Who do these idiots think they'll get that's better than Doeren? He's a B- coach and UTK has become a C+ school. No wonder they want Kiffin back after he fucked them over.
11/29/2017 5:29:57 PM
Those people are only looking at records but people who know what they are doing know that there is a lot more information available that can be used to give records context for evaluation. I think Doeren would be close to unbeatable if he ever got top 10 talent. Dabo is barely squeaking by Doeren with talent that is far superior. I don't think Doeren can ever recruit top 10 talent at nc state, but he might be able to at a place like Nebraska or TAMU. Hell, if Johnny Fraser simply panned out, we would probably be a playoff team right now.

Can't blame him for taking a 5 million offer. Not sure what it will end up being. But does he want to step into that situation? I hope doeren is here next year but this seems to be posturing for more money.
11/29/2017 7:03:38 PM
where did you get the info on a 5 million dollar offer?

Just scanning through the VolNation msg boards it looks like there's going to be Schiano 2.0 riots if Doeren takes the job.I think Doeren would be smart to turn it down because he's not going to have fan support. Set up to fail like Charlie Strong.[Edited on November 30, 2017 at 8:02 AM. Reason : a]

Rather than getting a Herb that may stabilize their program, their bitching is going to get them their Sid Lowe in Tee Martin. NAH ITLL BE JON GRUDEN BC ITS TENNESSEE DAMMIT.
11/30/2017 8:09:44 AM
The 3 main candidates the VolNation fans all agree on are Kiffin, Miles and Tee Martin if the first 2 fall through.I don't think it's unreasonable to think they could get any of those 3, but I'm sure there's some big name donors, political figures, admin who are blocking a call to Kiffin.[Edited on November 30, 2017 at 8:19 AM. 11/30/2017 8:27:54 AM
They're just repeating Herbs. It would be like if we fired Herb in 2001 and hired Seth Greenberg.
11/30/2017 8:33:16 AM
dabo is only blowing dave away in recruiting but that extreme talent difference is leading to last second wins. clemson is an elite school with recruiting and resources like tennessee so i cant help but wonder how it would be if they started on equal footingbut now that you mention bowden, he WAS a hofer but had fallen off late in his career. he was pretty bad when he was losing to amato.
11/30/2017 8:42:46 AM
I'm p sure Clemson is winning most of its games not on last second heroics.
