Congrats KC. This was an incredible season for the Mets from the big win streak in April to the sweep of the Nats at the end of July to sweeping the Cubs in the NLCS. This team was much more talented, likable, and competitive than the 2000 team that also lost the WS. I think the 2006 team was still more entertaining (young Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Delgado), but this team got the job done in their own unique kind of way. There was only one game in this series where the Royals were clearly the better team, and only one where the Mets were the same. 3 incredibly hard fought games from both sides that ultimately came down to costly errors and timely hitting. The Royals had their heads in the game more than the Mets did, and I think a lot of that is the experience of having been there the year before. I kind of hated that I couldn't hate the Royals. The only player who bothers me is Hosmer because his face makes me want to hide my future kids.I still don't understand why Collins would let Harvey talk him into putting him out there again. Familia with a 2 run lead and no one on would have been way more ideal than 1 run lead and a runner in scoring position...I guess it's all hindsight but Harvey's control was dipping already and he should have been pulled after the first pitch of the 9th was so high. Calling it a blown save despite inheriting the runner who only scored on an error is ridiculous, because the line score otherwise says 2 innings, 0 hits, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts. Familia will go down in history as the only closer with 3 blown saves in a world series however he didn't pitch poorly. 5 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs (only 1 earned), 0 BB, 3 K. The only real save blown was game 1 and it was only because of one bad pitch.

Familia handled the pressure in this series like Bambard on extra points. I all seriousness, gg to both the Royals and Mets. Mets are setup well to be back in the playoffs next year since the NL East is a cess pool.

The thing is that all season long the Mets have had decent enough defense. Not the best, but certainly not the worst or anywhere near this bad. I think a lot of this was caused by over-excitement and first-time jitters. It's not a good excuse and the Royals certainly won this by playing better defense when it mattered most. But by no means were the Mets overwhelmed or "outclassed" as bronco put it. These were 2 great teams and the best possible World Series match-up there could have been.
