Sure, this group may have a 40% suicide rate, but I can guarandamntee you that this country suffers from more PTSD suicides coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. How come we aren't debating how we should bend over backwards to help those vets?

There are programs available out there for them, yes, but programs and counseling is also available for trannies who need it.

Im not sure what this has to do with vets.

And framing this issue in that manner makes it sound too much like an 'either or...' issue when it comes to treatment of any mental issues, i.e., dont help the trans community...help the vets instead.


I think the more valuable discussion should be the acceptance of the trans community, and the prevention of hate crimes/discrimination which probably leads to any mental instability.

Moving transgenderism to where it was 100% acceptable in society still isn't going to stop the suicides. Because at the end of the day, these people are trying to be something they're not, nor will they ever be.

Suicide/depression often results from individuals feeling like society doesn't want them. So I do think making them feel accepted will vastly improve the suicide rate.

I don't think I've EVER referred to anyone as a fag, unless I was being sarcastic. And I don't generally refer to people in derogatory terms in general, even if I don't agree with their lifestyle.

I was just making a comparison. Tranny is an equivalent. I'm sure you don't have a lot of experience in the area so I was trying to inform.

PTSD exists outside of veterans, and if you hear slurs your whole life combined with verbal and/or physical violence, those slurs can trigger negative emotions and flashbacks. I'm not the kind of person to avoid all sorts of topics to keep from offending people, but a simple choice of words isn't a big deal.

^Historical connotation is important. Nigger wasn't offensive at one point, now it is. Words have gone the opposite direction as well.
