How did your 5 year old do with all the death? My daughter is 4 and loves Star Wars, but I'm kinda afraid to let her watch this one just yet. So much darker than the others.

It doesn't seem to bother him. He did ask a bunch times "Is he/she dead?" but that was about it.He's watched most Episodes I-VI with the exception of III. The parts where Anakin had nightmares bothered him so I've avoided that one for now. The end is pretty gruesome too.

not to get all psychiatry-y but kids begin understanding the permanence of death between 3-5, but they tend to not understand the universality or implication of death until 7 or so ... so 4's probably the best time honestly. She's old enough to understand the concept but young enough that you can guide her learning but I digress, back to the movie discussion.

R1 was the best of the series (I'm sorry old folks). I still get chills everytime the music stops in the airlock. SPOILER ALERT: ROGUE ONE FOOTAGE IS IN THIS VIDEOhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiMpNdaq8bkThis was me in the theatre

I really liked it. I liked the tone, the actors/acresses - I thought everything about it was well done. I only hope the Han Solo movie and replicate its success.
10/15/2017 7:45:11 PM
R1 is the best because of one scene, which is basically an extended scene from a different movie]
10/15/2017 8:04:34 PM
Agreed

^^The other movies all have major cheesiness to them. People only remember that in the prequels but the interactions between leia and han, for example, were super cheesy. Its the only one I wouldn't consider a "family movie"

The complaints about character development and some of the acting are still very true. I enjoyed it (which is more than a lot of people will say), but I won't pretend it was better than the rest in any way.
10/17/2017 12:26:09 PM
In any way?Not a single one?Reeeaaaaallllllllly?

tittytwista already established R1 is the best SW movie ever because cartoon Leia says “Hope”
10/17/2017 5:38:22 PM
I like how they completely wasted Forrest Whitaker's character
10/17/2017 5:43:11 PM
If you it makes you feel better BEU, I'm generalizing about the "good ones." It is different in tone, but nothing extraordinary. It certainly is still better than much/all of the prequels (which I don't hate as much as most people, but still agree are worse than the others).
10/17/2017 5:52:33 PM
FTR I liked R1 10x better than TFA.
10/17/2017 5:58:26 PM
Yes

Did a SW marathon leading up to this upcoming weekend when I'll get to see The Last Jedi. I like this movie more each time I see it.

I just re-watched it with my boys (5 and 2) and the 2 year old was engrossed by it. Didn't expect him to stay so attentive. It was a lot of fun
12/18/2017 4:49:38 PM
Still a top 3 all time SW movie
12/18/2017 5:48:12 PM

Cinemasins blows[Edited on December 21, 2017 at 10:51 PM. Reason : Post the honest trailers, at least those are real criticims]

they're fun, and some of the points are always legit. there aren't perfect films. All I'm really trying to do is point out the obvious that R1 is whatever term you want to use to describe something that's strictly made to appease the hardcore fans[Edited on December 21, 2017 at 11:51 PM. Reason : and there's nothing wrong with it]
12/21/2017 11:50:50 PM
With all the Star Wars stuff going on, felt appropriate to bump the best one of the bunch.
12/18/2019 5:39:17 PM
I just watched it again the other week. So fucking good.
12/18/2019 6:06:48 PM
Yup. One of the best. I mean that Scariff battle - the ground stuff, the attack on the shield gate...just great.
