(For reference, I am trying to understand the situation. I am not trying to impose any ideas). Isn't there also the possibility that the unearned runs were Rodon's fault? For example (from a Yahoo answers post, since I know little about baseball statistics) "Say there's two outs and nobody on base. The next batter gets on by an error. The team up to bat then hits 4 homers in a row. In this case all 5 runs would be unearned because the pitcher should have been out of the inning if not for the error."So couldn't Rodon be at fault depending on the situation? It just seems like too much of a coincidence for the team to be bad when he plays.
4/25/2014 12:10:50 AM
^10 days of this shit and you still don't get it? Chalk it up as a loss and move on.
4/25/2014 2:48:34 AM
^^ Yeah they could all be his fault, but they weren't. I remember the MD (I think?) game where they had like 3-4 errors behind him in the span of 1-2 innings. Even in the dead bat era of college baseball the team 2 years ago had a pretty good offense with Mathews, Canela, Diaz, Fincher, Turner, Austin, etc. Last year's team replaced a lot of the Jr's/Sr's who left with other Jr's/Sr's who were good (Senay, Clyde, etc.), but weren't as good as the class that had just left. This year we just didn't have anyone to replace the guys from the middle of the order. Then when the offense started scoring a little bit (although there's still games like the Campbell game), the bullpen got blown up with the Stone/Jernigan rotation melt down and then the bullpen got stretched extremely thin and a couple guys got hurt. As much as you can point to Rodon not being as dominate as he was at the end of last year and point to Turner having a very down year (by his standards) in virtually every category - this entire season has been a mess. This team clearly didn't have enough to make it back to the CWS, but with the way things have transpired its absolutely wrecked what could've at least been a decent year.
4/25/2014 12:27:27 PM
So it's all just unlucky coincidence then. Weirder things have happened, but that's still a burn for the team that they play better with worse pitchers.
4/25/2014 3:18:36 PM
So...Rodon lost to GT 1-0 tonight. Struck out 15, walked 2.
4/25/2014 10:07:24 PM
From Twitter: "Tonight's game also marks fifth time this season NC State has been shutout when Carlos Rodon pitches."Just another typical Friday for Wolpfack baseball!
4/25/2014 10:18:58 PM
I caught the pregame and the first 4 innings on the radio on my drive up to Virginia tonight. They said during the pregame that in Rodon's 6 losses (7 now) that he has received a total of 3 runs in support. Doesn't matter how good of a pitcher you have if you don't give him any offensive help and commit a bunch of errors behind him in the field.
4/25/2014 10:32:59 PM
Keith Law (ESPN baseball writer/blogger) has given us hell for Rodon's pitch count in each of his last two starts. And he's right.
4/25/2014 10:45:22 PM
Let's just shut him down so he won't burnout in the mlb
4/26/2014 9:38:16 AM
Will be at the game tomorrow with my son and 3 others.
4/27/2014 12:24:13 AM
Won 7-1. No midweek games and we take on Coastal this weekend because of exams.
4/27/2014 7:53:49 PM
Is there an NIT for baseball?
4/27/2014 8:12:01 PM
I tweeted this pic of my son with Rodon a little while ago and my phone is blowing up from twitter notifications after PackPride and NCStateBaseball retweeted it. Carlos was so awesome and friendly!
4/27/2014 10:09:10 PM
Does he still have an enormous ass? Next time, get a pic of his backside. Don't worry so much about your kid, ok.[Edited on April 27, 2014 at 10:27 PM. Reason : Adorable pic though! ]
4/27/2014 10:11:31 PM
I saw that tweet a little while ago. Very cool!

Still very disappointing.
4/28/2014 12:22:42 PM
Top 10 ACC teams get in the tourney, right? Looks like we just need to win both series -- not necessarily sweep -- and we should sneak in, barring a big winning streak by BC, Pitt, or UMD[Edited on April 28, 2014 at 1:11 PM. Reason : ]
4/28/2014 1:08:55 PM
We need to catch either Pitt or Maryland and stay ahead of BC. Pitt plays BC and Maryland for their next two series so that should help. The problem is Pitt has 3 games in hand and Maryland has 1.
4/28/2014 1:41:57 PM
4/28/2014 2:09:12 PM
We lost both series to BC and Maryland. Have to finish ahead of them.
4/29/2014 9:48:11 AM
Our next ACC is against Wake at home in 2 weekends. If we sweep them, we'd be tied with them. Their last series is vs Virginia and ours is VT. We've got to build on the confidence from beating Georgia Tech this weekend vs Coastal. Even though it doesn't matter ACC wise, we can't have an ETSU repeat.
4/29/2014 10:25:40 AM
Finally! Some run support for Rodon
5/3/2014 9:58:44 AM
As of 4/28 (Before this weekend's sweep), this site has us as the last 8 in: http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/8973They have us in LSU group as the 3rd team it looks like. I know it is early but...
5/5/2014 9:30:02 AM
5 wins in a row!!
5/5/2014 9:42:01 AM
Team is playing much better (although there's still the random game like the 9-0 loss to Campbell), but from what I've seen they've pretty much got to sweep Wake this weekend to sneak into the ACC-T - which sucks when you look at the all games they've blown (BC series, final game at FSU, final game at Duke, close losses to Miami, etc.). If they'd won a few of those then the season goes from an absolute dumpster fire to just very disappointing (since they'd still be sitting pretty nicely for ACC-T and NCAA bids).[Edited on May 5, 2014 at 10:28 AM. Reason : tbdv]
5/5/2014 10:15:40 AM
At least we don't play FSU and Miami to end the season.
5/5/2014 10:25:48 AM
So Maryland and Clemson are 1 game short due to one of their games being cancelled. How does that work for standings? Just go with it or will they have to make it up if it would impact the standings. I'm just thinking of a scenario where we catch Clemson in the win column but because they have one less loss they would get the nod even though we won the series against them.
5/7/2014 8:24:24 AM
If teams can't play a game or games during their scheduled weekend series, it is not made up. The conference winning percentage is what ranks the teams in the standings.
5/7/2014 10:08:13 AM
^thanksJust saw this on ACC's front page. This was before the last series. Dude thinks we have to run the table to make it into the NCAA tourney http://www.theacc.com/#!/video-detail/B3djFwbTqFuvuhjjyn3HR4wPOlxa8YJ8Will be at the game tonight by the way.[Edited on May 7, 2014 at 10:26 AM. 5/7/2014 10:22:43 AM
Good.I think we have to at least make the main part of the ACC tourney and beat someone with a higher RPI to get us into the NCAA tourney. None of our games the rest of the regular season are against higher RPI teams than us. We need the ACC tourney to boost our resume at all.
5/7/2014 1:21:52 PM
9-1 win over Wake Forest.Rodon increases his strikeouts to 430, 4th all-time in the ACC. In his last 5 games, he's got a 0.70 ERA with 51 strikeouts and only 11 walks.
5/10/2014 11:38:20 AM
Won Game 2 10-2. No game tomorrow; going for the sweep on Monday night at 6. Game will be televised on ESPNU.
5/10/2014 11:24:34 PM
Can tickets be bought at the game Monday? I looked on gopack and it said no tickets were available but from what I've seen of the gams it's been sparse attendance.
5/10/2014 11:38:00 PM
The only tickets for sale are bleachers and the hill and are available at the stadium day of the game. I think the ticket windows open an hour and a half before the game. All reserved seats were sold as season tickets. After the top of the 5th, you can sit in any open seat unless the ticket holder shows up.
5/11/2014 12:20:12 AM
Bought my ticket today on gopack. Hoping to get my bat signed after the game. I have brought it twice already but have not been able to stay long enough because I've had my son with me. ^Chris, I may try to sit with you when they open up the seats in the 5th if that is cool with you. I'm flying solo tonight.
5/12/2014 3:54:40 PM
At the game watching us derp it up.
5/12/2014 7:57:28 PM
Amazing how far this team has fallen.
5/12/2014 8:11:38 PM
Well, this is a mess.
5/12/2014 9:09:41 PM
Well, after that 3-run HR bomb by Trea, we'd only be down by 1 if not for that freshman pitcher's error. *sigh*
5/12/2014 9:30:55 PM
Score isn't posted on ESPN, what is the score and how many innings left?
5/12/2014 9:46:14 PM
NM, just updated

Biggest disappointment: 2014 Baseball, 2003 Football, or 12-13 Basketball?
5/12/2014 9:58:32 PM
I was only 12 during the '03 FB season so I'm gonna rule that one out for me, but in terms of the '12-'13 basketball & '14 baseball I'd say baseball. The team lost a lot from last year, but with 2 top 10-ish first round picks, having to get help in the final series to even have a shot at post-season play is awful. The '12-'13 basketball team at least ended up decent, just disappointing. This year's baseball team has lost a ridiculous amount of games they probably 'should have' won. There's of course the offense, but then there were the blown games due to awful defense and/or a non-Rodon starter (that everyone was hoping would take a step forward this year) blowing up and going like 2 and 1/3 inning. This season has sucked.
5/12/2014 10:37:45 PM
^imagine this:2012/2013 Basketball : Preseason #6...barely makes tournament...loses first round.2013 Football : Winless in the ACC, no postseason2014 Baseball : Preseason #6...might not make ACC Tournament...disappointmentI mean...just a shit show
5/12/2014 11:17:38 PM
Football obviously had the "worst" season ... baseball is more disappointing though. We knew we'd suck at football. Maybe not 0-8 in the conference, but nobody was expecting anything12-13 bball team actually had a decent season if you take out the expectations. Big wins against UNC and Duke, nice run in the ACC tourney, NCAA birth. The baseball season has been a shit show, especially considering we have two top-5 picks on this team. It'd be almost like having Phillip Rivers and Mario Williams on the same team (in their primes) and not making a bowl game.Luckily, it's baseball, so most fans don't get too worked up about it.
5/13/2014 8:01:19 AM
If we tie with Pitt who takes the 10th spot?We could make up 2 games on WF this weekend considering they have UVA and we have VT.And a sweep would put us ahead of GT since they are done at 14-16 and we took the series.[Edited on May 13, 2014 at 8:14 AM. Reason : .]
5/13/2014 8:12:04 AM
For tiebreaker with Pitt I think this is how it goes:If Clemson finishes ahead of Duke and GT, we get the tiebreakerIf Clemson finishes behind either, Pitt gets the tiebreakerAgainst Clemson: State(2-1), Pitt (1-2)Against Duke: State (1-2), Pitt (3-0)Against GT: State (2-1), Pitt (3-0)Current standings for those teamsDuke 15-12 (Plays FSU this weekend)GT 14-16 (Finished ACC Schedule)Clemson 13-13 (Plays BC this weekend)So, let's sweep and take the spot from GT!
5/13/2014 8:39:00 AM
It's fucking baseball. In regards to college sports...if you do something great, you're excited because its your team and you're happy they are succeeding at something. If you don't do well, you can just say, "it's fucking baseball, nobody gives a shit. It's all about football and basketball."Or if you're a school like South Carolina that has never won anything of significance in your entire athletic history, you make tons of bumper stickers, koozies, t-shirts, etc. and blast that shit all the time.
5/13/2014 10:28:07 AM
5/13/2014 10:33:56 AM
We have two NCAA championships and 13 ACC championships in basketball. Our football programs are comparable in a historical context (obviously not recently). But South Carolina has like one old ACC championship in basketball. So in the sports that people actually care about...we're way ahead.Again...its fucking baseball.
